  • In this paper, we deal with random attractors for dynamical systems forced by a deterministic noise. These kind of systems are modeled as skew products where the dynamics of the forcing process are described by the base transformation. Here, we consider skew products over the Bernoulli shift with the unit interval fiber. We study the geometric structure of maximal attractors, the orbit stability and stability of mixing of these skew products under random perturbations of the fiber maps. We show that there exists an open set U in the space of such skew products so that any skew product belonging to this set admits an attractor which is either a continuous invariant graph or a bony graph attractor. These skew products have negative fiber Lyapunov exponents and their fiber maps are non-uniformly contracting, hence the non-uniform contraction rates are measured by Lyapnnov exponents. Furthermore, each skew product of U admits an invariant ergodic measure whose support is contained in that attractor. Additionally, we show that the invariant measure for the perturbed system is continuous in the Hutchinson metric.

  • To ensure the flutter stability of three-tower suspension bridges under skew wind, by using the computational procedure of 3D refined flutter analysis of long-span bridges under skew wind, in which structural nonlinearity, the static wind action(also known as the aerostatic effect) and the full-mode coupling effect etc., are fully considered, the flutter stability of a three-tower suspension bridge-the Taizhou Bridge over the Yangtze River in completion and during the deck erection is numerically investigated under the constant uniform skew wind, and the influences of skew wind and aerostatic effects on the flutter stability of the bridge under the service and construction conditions are assessed. The results show that the flutter critical wind speeds of three-tower suspension bridge under service and construction conditions fluctuate with the increase of wind yaw angle instead of a monotonous cosine rule as the decomposition method proposed, and reach the minimum mostly in the case of skew wind. Both the skew wind and aerostatic effects significantly reduce the flutter stability of three-tower suspension bridge under the service and construction conditions, and the combined skew wind and aerostatic effects further deteriorate the flutter stability. Both the skew wind and aerostatic effects do not change the evolution of flutter stability of the bridge during the deck erection, and compared to the service condition, they lead to a greater decrease of flutter critical wind speed of the bridge during deck erection, and the influence of the combined skew wind and aerostatic effects is more prominent. Therefore, the skew wind and aerostatic effects must be considered accurately in the flutter analysis of three-tower suspension bridges.

  • For an endomorphism $\alpha$ of a ring R, we introduce the weak $\alpha$-skew Armendariz rings which are a generalization of the $\alpha$-skew Armendariz rings and the weak Armendariz rings, and investigate their properties. Moreover, we prove that a ring R is weak $\alpha$-skew Armendariz if and only if for any n, the $n\;{\times}\;n$ upper triangular matrix ring $T_n(R)$ is weak $\bar{\alpha}$-skew Armendariz, where $\bar{\alpha}\;:\;T_n(R)\;{\rightarrow}\;T_n(R)$ is an extension of $\alpha$ If R is reversible and $\alpha$ satisfies the condition that ab = 0 implies $a{\alpha}(b)=0$ for any a, b $\in$ R, then the ring R[x]/($x^n$) is weak $\bar{\alpha}$-skew Armendariz, where ($x^n$) is an ideal generated by $x^n$, n is a positive integer and $\bar{\alpha}\;:\;R[x]/(x^n)\;{\rightarrow}\;R[x]/(x^n)$ is an extension of $\alpha$. If $\alpha$ also satisfies the condition that ${\alpha}^t\;=\;1$ for some positive integer t, the ring R[x] (resp, R[x; $\alpha$) is weak $\bar{\alpha}$-skew (resp, weak) Armendariz, where $\bar{\alpha}\;:\;R[x]\;{\rightarrow}\;R[x]$ is an extension of $\alpha$.

  • Understanding the behavior of skew bridges under the action of earthquakes is quite challenging due to the combined transverse and longitudinal responses even under unidirectional hit. The main goal of this research is to assess the response of skew bridges when subjected to longitudinal and transversal earthquake loading. The effect of skew on the response considering two- and three- span bridges with skew angles varying from 0 to 60 degrees is illustrated. Various pier fixities (and hence stiffness) and cross-section shapes, as well as different abutment's bearing articulations, are also studied. Finite-element models are established for modal and seismic analyses. Around 900 models are analyzed under the action of the code design response spectrum. $Vis-{\grave{a}}-vis$ modal properties, the higher the skew angle, the less the fundamental period. In addition, it is found that bridges with skew angles less than 30 degrees can be treated as straight bridges for the purpose of calculating modal mass participation factors. Other monitored results are bearings' reactions at abutments, shear and torsion demand in piers, as well as deck longitudinal displacement. Unlike straight bridges, it has been typically noted that skew bridges experience non-negligible torsion and bi-directional pier base shears. In a complementary effort to assess the accuracy of the conducted response spectrum analysis, a series of time-history analyses are applied under seven actual earthquake records scaled to match the code design response spectrum and critical comparisons are performed.

  • The characteristics of the relationship between the evolution of propeller trailing vortex wake and skew angle are numerically examined based on four different five-blade David Taylor Model Basin (DTMB) model propellers with different skew angles. Numerical simulations are based on Reynolds-averaged Naviere-Stokes (RANS) equations combined with SST $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model. Results show that the contraction of propeller trailing vortex wake can be restrained by increasing skew angle and loading conditions, and root vortices fade away when the propeller skew angle increases. With the increase of the propeller's skew angle, the deformation of the hub vortex and destabilization of the tip vortices are weakening gradually because the blade-to-blade interaction becomes weaker. The transition trailing vortex wake from stability to instability is restrained when the skew increases. Furthermore, analyses of tip vortice trajectories show that the increasing skew can reduce the difference in trailing vortex wake contraction under different loading conditions.

  • The analysis of simply supported single-cell skew-curved reinforced concrete (RC) box-girder bridges is carried out using a finite element based CsiBridge software. The behaviour of skew-curved box-girder bridges can not be anticipated simply by superimposing the individual effects of skewness and curvature, so it becomes important to examine the behaviour of such bridges considering the combined effects of skewness and curvature. A comprehensive parametric study is performed wherein the combined influence of the skew and curve angles is considered to determine the maximum bending moment, maximum shear force, maximum torsional moment and maximum vertical deflection of the bridge girders. The skew angle is varied from 0° to 60° at an interval of 10°, and the curve angle is varied from 0° to 60° at an interval of 12°. The scantly available literature on such bridges focuses mainly on the analysis of skew-curved bridges under dead and point loads. But, the effects of actual loadings may be different, thus, it is considered in the present study. It is found that the performance of these bridges having more curvature can be improved by introducing the skewness. Finally, several equations are deduced in the non-dimensional form for estimating the forces and deflection in the girders of simply supported skew-curved RC box-girder bridges, based upon the results of the straight one. The developed equations may be helpful to the designers in proportioning, analysing, and designing such bridges, as the correlation coefficient is about 0.99.

  • To ensure the wind stability of a long-span suspension bridge during deck erection under skew wind, based on the aerostatic and self-excited aerodynamic force models under skew wind, a computational approach of refined flutter analysis for long-span bridges under skew wind is firstly established, in which the effects of structural nonlinearity, the static wind action and full-mode coupling etc are fully considered, and the corresponding computational procedure is programmed. By taking the Runyang suspension bridge over the Yangtze River as example, the flutter stability of the bridge in completion under skew wind is then analyzed with the aerodynamic parameters of a similar bridge deck measured from the sectional model wind tunnel test under skew wind. Finally, through simulating the girder segments erected symmetrically from the midspan to towers, from the towers to midspan and simultaneously from the towers and midspan to the quarter points, respectively, the evolutions of flutter stability limits during the deck erection under skew wind are investigated numerically, the favorable aerodynamically deck erection sequence is proposed, and the influences of skew wind and static wind effect on the flutter stability of suspension bridge under construction are ascertained.

  • In this paper, we proposed how the V-skew applied of the rotor to inprove the characteristics of cogging torque in large PMSM. Large PMSM is difficult to apply a pitch of the diagonal magnetic skew because of the motor's structure and making. In addition, the force in the direction of z-axis occurs when the diagonal skew is applied. So we are applying the optimal v-skew to reduce torque ripple and cogging torque because this reduces the noise and vivration on the motor. Throug FEM dD analysis, we studied to find the optimal v-skew angle for reducing torque ripple.

  • In this paper, we present the results of finite element analyses pertaining to the mechanical behavior of simply supported skew concrete slab bridges. To investigate the bending behavior of skew concrete slab three skewed slabs are modelled with different plate aspect ratios. In each modelled skew plate, skew angles are varied from 0$^{\circ}$to 45$^{\circ}$ by 5$^{\circ}$interval. It is found that the support reactions at the obtuse corner are remarkably higher than the other support reactions. In the design of skew slab bridge bearings, the capacity of bearing installed at the obtuse corner should be very high or otherwise the spacing between the bearings at this corner must be adjusted appropriately to resist extra high reactions.

  • We present an efficient algorithm for skew correction of business card images obtained by a PDA camera. The proposed method is composed of four parts: block adaptive binarization (BAB), stripe generation, skew angle calculation, and image rotation. In the BAB, an input image is binarized block by block so as to lessen the effects of irregular illumination and shadows over the input image. In the stripe generation, character string clusters are generated merging character strings and their inter-spaces, and then only clusters useful for skew angle calculation are output as stripes. In the skew angle calculation, the direction angles of the stripes are calculated using their central moments and then the skew angle of the input image is determined averaging the direction angles. In the image rotation, the input image is rotated by the skew angle. Experimental results shows that the proposed method yields correction rates of 97% for business card images.
