  • In molecular imaging studies via magnetic resonance imaging, in vivo cell tracking is an important issue for the observation of cell therapy or disease behavior. High resolution imaging and longitudinal study are necessary to track the cell movement. Since the field inhomogeneity extends over several voxels, we have performed the numerical analysis using the sub-voxel method dividing a voxel of MR image into several elements and the information about the field inhomogeneity distribution around the micro-beads. We imbedded ferrite-composite micro-beads with the size of $20-150{\mu}m$ in the subject substituted for cells to induce local field distortion. In the phantom imaging with the isotropic voxel size of $200{\mu}m^3$, we could confirm the feasibility of sub-voxel tracking in a 3.0 T MRI.

  • The transform trellis code is an optimal source code as a block size and the constraint length of a shift register go to infinite for stationary Gaussian sources with the squared-error distortion measure. However to implement this code, we have to choose the finite block size and constraint length. Moreover real-world sources are inherently non stationary. To overcome these difficulties, we developed a training algorithm for the transform trellis code. The trained transform trellis code which uses the same rates to each block led to a variation in the resulting distortion from one block to another. To alleviate this non-uniformity in the encoded image, we constructed clusters from the variance of the training data and assigned different rates for each cluster.

  • We analyze aberrations in an optical laser printer system in order to know how to determine an allowable non-uniformity of the movement of a light spot, how to determine allowed variation of spot sizes, and how to minimize the influence of these deviations on technological errors. In this paper, the correction and the tolerance of distortion are analyzed by using the concept of zonal and global distortions. The tolerance of field curvature is also obtained from Gaussian beam properties. In order to reduce the change of the entrance pupil position and to make a more compact laser printer system the minimum size of the rotator is exactly derived from the geometry with the introduction of the shift angle of the input beam.

  • The lens distortion in the machine vision system is inevitable phenomenon. Distortion is getting worse, due to the selection of lens in the trend of reducing prices and size of the system. In this trend, the distortion correction becomes more important. But, the traditional correction methods has problems, such as complexity and requiring more operations. Effective distorted digital image correction is the precondition of target detection and recognition based on vision inspection. To overcome the disadvantage of traditional distortion correction algorithms, such as complex modeling, massive computation and marginal information loss, an image distortion correction algorithm based on photogrammetry method is proposed in this paper. In our method, we use the lattice image as the measurement target. Through the experimental results, we could find that we can reduce the processing time by 4ms. And also the inspection failure rate of our method was reduced by 2.3% than human-eyes inspection method.

  • In the binaural synthesis environments, wide varieties of the head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) that have measured with a various direction would be desirable to obtain the accurate and various spatial sound images. To reduce the size' of HRTFs, interpolation has been often employed, where the HRTF for any direction is obtained by a limited number of the representative HRTFs. In this paper, we study on the distortion measures for interpolation, which has an important role in interpolation. With lhe various objective distortion metrics, the differences between the interpolated and the measured HRTFs were computed. These were then compared and analyzed with the results from the listening tests. From the results, the objective distortion measures were selected, that reflected the perceptual differences in spatial sound image. This measure was employed in a practical interpolation technique. We applied the proposed method to four kinds of an HRTF set, measured from three human heads and one mannequin. As a result, the Mel-frequency cepstral distortion was shown to be a good predictor for the differences in spatial sound location, when three HRTF measured from human, and the time-domain signal to distortion ratio revealed good prediction results for the entire four HRTF sets.

  • As computer Programs for cephalometric analysis were developed in diagnosis & treatment planning, digital imaging of film-based cephalograms came to be needed. When a digital camera is used, a problem encountered the image distortion produced according to the focal length, which causes errors in indentifying landmarks. In addition, changes in the image size and compression ratio will inevitably produce a low quality image, causing errors in identifying landmarks. Hence. we have found the focal length producing the least image distortion when digital imaging the film-based cephalograms and the minimal digital camera setting which helps to identify the correct landmarks using the COOLPIX4500 digital camera (Nikon, Japan). The results were as follows The image distortion was minimized at a focal length of 16.4mm (79.4mm when converted into a 35mm film camera) when digital imaging the film-based cephalograms. When wide imaging, with a focal length of under IS.4mm, barrel distortion was found and when tole imaging. with a focal length of over 15.4mm pincushion distortion was found. The minimal digital camera setting was $2272{\times}1704$ pixel at normal (1/8) compression from which we can identify the correct landmarks at the same level as tracing the film-based cephalograms manually. As a result. when digital imaging the film-based cephalograms, using a COOLPIX4500 digital camera (Nikon, Japan), the focal length should be 16.4mm the pixel image size over $2272{\times}1704$, and the compression ratio over normal (1/8).

  • This paper evaluates the equalization performance of FC-MMA adaptive equalization algorithm by the fixed step size that is used for the minimization of the intersymbol interference which occurs in the time dispersive communication channel. The FC-MMA has a fast convergence speed in order to adapts the new environment more rapidly in case of the time varying charateristics and the abnormal situation like as outage of the communication channel. But the algorithms operates in adative method, convegence speed is depend on fixed step size for adaptation. For this situation, its performance was evaluated by changing the step size value, the residual isi and maximum distortion and MSE performance index which means the convergence characteristics are widely adapted in the adaptive equalizer, SER were applied. As a result of computer simulation, the large step size can improves the convergence speed for reaching the steady state, but has a poor performance compared to small step size in residual values after steady state. The research result shows that the FC-MMA algorithm is applied the large step size for rapidly reaching the steady state in initial time, then adjust the small step size after reaching the steady state for reducing the residual values for equalization.

  • Recently, 18F-FDG PET based CT scan was a critical examination that the after, before plan diagnosis and treatment of tumors. But, due to the distortion of SUV that should be proportional to the metabolic rate of glucose in the tumor, the other measurement methods are being on study. In this study, compared the degree of distortion of SUV that according to the volume of the tumor analysis ROI and VOI using the NEMA IEC Phantom. The results, the SUVmax, mean value are rapidly decreased with threshold value 500 mm2 interval of the ROI analysis, 1500 mm3 interval of the VOI analysis. When compared SUVmax value SUVmean, ROI and VOI analysis VOI measurements was 1.077 times higher SUVmax was 0.981 times highe compared to the value of the ROI measurement. Compare MTV, SUV 2.0 as measured by the volume of the VOI to Volume showed a slightly higher results(Volume / MTV = $93.4 %{\pm}14.8 %$). Considering the above results, Tumor evaluation by 18F-FDG PET / CT scan Consider each threshold value should be analyzed due to larger SUV's Distortion depending on the size of the tumor. VOI analysis is recommended. because it showed the VOI analysis is higher than the ROI analysis SUVmax and lower SUVmean due to VOI analysis than once as a measure of the wider area as measured ROI analysis. MTV (R2 = 0.999), a result close to the actual size of the tumor. but, more research is needed in this regard, because SUV according to the standards of value are affected.

  • H.264, which is the latest video coding standard of both ITU-T(International Telecommunication Union-Telecommunication standardization sector) and MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group), adopts new video coding tools such as variable block size motion estimation, multiple reference frames, quarter-pel motion estimation/compensation(ME/MC), 4${\times}$4 Integer DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform), and Rate-Distortion Optimization, etc. These new video coding tools provide good coding of efficiency compared with existing video coding standards as H.263, MPEG-4, etc. However, these new coding tools require the increase of encoder complexity. Therefore, in order to apply H.264 to many real applications, fast algorithms are required for H.264 coding tools. In this paper, when encoder MacroBlock(MB) mode is decided by rate-distortion optimization tool, fast mode decision algorithm by skipping variable block size ME/MC and spatial-predictive coding, which occupies most encoder complexity, is proposed. In terms of computational complexity, the proposed method runs about 4 times as far as JM(Joint Model) 42 encoder of H.264, while the PSNR(peak signal-to-noise ratio)s of the decoded images are maintained.

  • The previous steganographic methods by using the interpolation were difficult to estimate the distortion because the size of cover image is extended by interpolation algorithms. In this paper, to solve the problems of previous methods proposed the improved steganographic method based on the pixel replacement algorithms. In our method, we cannot extend a cover image, but also can estimate exactly the distortion of the stego-images. In the experimental results, the estimated distortion and embedding capacity of stego-image are shown on three pixel replacement methods.
