  • This paper proposes a step-by-step method of determining the parameters of equivalent circuit which is considered the no load losses for the single phase induction motor which has the starting winding. This method is comprised of three steps, and the stator resistance which is measured by the method of voltage drop is treated as constant and the stator and the rotor leakage reactances are assumed to be the same in every step. The test results of no load and locked rotor test are used in the 1st and 2nd step, and the ratings of name plate of the motor are needed in the 3rd step. In the 1st step, the traditional equivalent circuit parameters are directly calculated by no load and locked rotor conditions. In the next step, five nonlinear simultaneous equations for five unknown parameters can be set up by no load and locked rotor equivalent circuits. These equations are solved by using the initial parameters obtained by the 1st step parameters. In the final step, three nonlinear simultaneous equations for rotor winding resistance, leakage reactance and no load losses component resistance can be set up by equivalent circuit under the rated operation. Three parameters are solved by using the 2nd step parameters. Thus, equivalent circuit parameters are gradually refined step by step. The validity of the proposed method is evaluated by comparing the computed values obtained by the equivalent circuit parameters with the experimental values of the load test.

  • This research presents an analytical model to investigate the stability due to the ball bearing waviness i n a rotating system supported by two ball bearings. The stiffness of a ball bearing changes periodically due to the waviness in the rolling elements as the rotor rotates, and it can be calculated by differentiating the nonlinear contact forces. The linearized equations of motion can be represented as a parametrically excited system in the form of Mathieu's equation, because the stiffness coefficients have time -varying components due to the waviness. Their solution can be assumed as a Fourier series expansion so that the equations of motion can be rewritten as the simultaneous algebraic equations with respect to the Fourier coefficients. Then, stability can be determined by solving the Hill's infinite determinant of these algebraic equations. The validity of this research is proved by comparing the stability chart with the time responses of the vibration model suggested by prior researches. This research shows that the waviness in the rolling elements of a ball bearing generates the time-varying component of the stiffness coefficient, whose frequency is called the frequency of the parametric excitation. It also shows that the instability takes place from the positions in which the ratio of the natural frequency to the frequency of the parametric excitation corresponds to i/2 (i=1,2,3..).

  • Based on the observed data for Clarithromycin released, three commonly used inflow models: the power, the exponential, and the logarithmic models are considered. Among them, the power model is used most in practice for simplicity. Using the numerical parameter estimation techniques, the parameters appeared in the model equations are estimated. Through the numerical estimation results using the several experimental data sets, the exponential model turns out to be best among the three models. More specifically, the sum of squares of absolute errors and the sum of squares of relative errors for the exponential model are reduced by 80-95 % for the experimental data sets and 60-90 % for the noise added data sets compared with those for the power and logarithmic models. A typical experimental data set is used in this paper to show the estimation method and its numerical results. The proposed numerical method and its algorithm are designed for estimating the parameters appeared in the model differential equations for which the exact form of the solution is unknown in general. The methodology developed can be applied to more general cases such as the nonlinear ordinary differential equations or the partial differential equations.

  • Lactobacillus brevis ATCC 14869 exhibited a carbon catabolite derepressed phenotype that has ability to consume fermentable sugars simultaneously with glucose. To evaluate this unusual phenotype under harsh conditions during fermentation, the effects of lactic acid and hydrogen ion concentrations on L. brevis ATCC 14869 were examined. Kinetic equations describing the relationship between specific cell growth rate and lactic acid or hydrogen ion concentration were deduced empirically. The change of substrate utilization and product formation according to lactic acid and hydrogen ion concentration in the media were quantitatively described. Although the simultaneous utilization has been observed regardless of hydrogen ion or lactic acid concentration, the preference of substrates and the formation of two-carbon products were changed significantly. In particular, acetic acid present in the medium as sodium acetate was consumed by L. brevis ATCC 14869 under extreme pH of both acid and alkaline conditions.

  • A new measure, the distributed generation impact factor (DGIF), is used for evaluating the impact of newly introduced distributed generators on a networked distribution or a transmission system. Distribution systems are normally operated in a radial structure. But the introduction of distributed generation needs load flow calculation to analyze the networked system. In the developed framework, the potential share of every generation bus in each line flow of a networked system can be directly evaluated. The developed index does not require the solution of power flow equations to evaluate the effect of the distributed generation. The main advantage of the developed method lies in its capability of considering simultaneous outputs of multiple generation sites.

  • This paper is concerned on method of simultaneous force(stress) and temperature sensing with PVDF film. PVDF film has piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties. Therefore, it senses changes of stress and temperature. But it's output is affected with two properties. Using different medium in a sensing element, this problem is solved. Two structures induce different equations that its solutions are changes of stress and temperature. This method and result is applicable in skin sensor that has complexity of material and structure.

  • This study was conducted to clarify the heat load characteristics and heat and moisture behavior of underground structures. The authors achieved this by carrying out a numerical analysis using simple heat diffusion and simultaneous heat and moisture transfer equations based on measurement data. This paper presents the results of a numerical analysis on the heat load characteristics and heat and moisture behavior of an underground basement and its surrounding ground under a condition of internal heat generation. The authors found it difficult to predict the heat behavior and heat load of the underground basement by simple heat diffusion alone. Accurate prediction of the thermal environment and heat load requires careful consideration of the influences of moisture and precipitation

  • It is usual in design and assessment of structures to isolate the effects of vertical and horizontal excitations by ignoring their coupling effects. In this situation, total structural response is obtained by employing the well-known combination rules whereby independent assumed response components of earthquakes are combined. In fact, the effects of the simultaneity of the ground motion components are ignored. In this paper, the effect of vertical excitation on horizontal response of structures, the coupling of vertical and horizontal responses, has been evaluated. A computer program is prepared to perform nonlinear dynamic analysis based on the derived governing equations of coupled motions. In the case of simultaneous excitation the results show significant increases in spectral displacement in some periods of vibration in comparison to only horizontally excited systems. Moreover, whenever ratio of the vertical peak ground acceleration to horizontal one become larger, the significant increase in horizontal spectral displacements are observed.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm for the object function used in optimal control or optimal design that sets the object function as simultaneous and then calculates the optimal value according to the Newton method. The proposed method calculates the optimal value simply using two inputs; object function and initial value, using the DDA(Direct Derivative Algorithm) which is a programmed ordinary derivative function that does not inquire the calculation of derivative function nor any inputs. And we have verified the usefulness of the algorithm for the optimal control and optimal dosing.
