  • Let B be a simply-connected projective variety such that the first cohomology groups of all line bundles on B are zero. Let E be a vector bundle over B and $X={\mathbb{P}}(E)$. It is easily seen that a power of any endomorphism of X takes fibers to fibers. We prove that if X admits an endomorphism which is of degree greater than one on the fibers, then E splits into a direct sum of line bundles.

  • Let M be a complete open Riemannian manifold. When the sectional curvature $K_M$ of M is nonpositive, Gromov has defined, in his lectures [3], the ideal boundary of M, and used it to study the geometric structure of M. In a Hadamard manifold, a simply connected manifold with nonpositive sectional curvature, a point at infinity can be defined as an equivalence class of rays. He proved many interesting theorems using this definition of ideal boundary and the so-called Tit's metric on it. He also suggested a counterpart to this for nonnegative curvature case. This idea has been taken up by Kasue to study the structure of complete open manifolds with asympttically nonnegative curvature [14]. Motivated by these works, we will define an idela boundary of a general noncompact manifold M, and study its structure.

  • The classification and recognition of two-dimensional trademark patterns independently of their position, orientation, size and scale by proposing two feature vectors has been discussed. The paper presents experimentation on two feature vectors showing size- invariance and scale-invariance respectively. Both feature vectors are equally invariant to rotation as well. The feature extraction is based on local as well as global statistics of the image. These feature vectors have appealing mathematical simplicity and are versatile. The results so far have shown the best performance of the developed system based on these unique sets of feature. The goal has been achieved by segmenting the image using connected-component (nearest neighbours) algorithm. Second part of this work considers the possibility of using back propagation neural networks (BPN) for the learning and matching tasks, by simply feeding the feature vectosr. The effectiveness of the proposed feature vectors is tested with various trademarks, not used in learning phase.

  • As the occupational education in junior college is being searched to be connected to practical industrial settings at present, importance of field placement is now being heightened. Industrial field experience shall be developed as the work can be performed in the practical site based on the generally comprehensive contents through the applicable educational course rather than simply independent educational course. Furthermore, characteristics of the applicable major shall be reflected in the field placement to be connected to the industrial field experience so that image promotion of the major and other additional value of the major can be effectively operated. However, it is practical situation that most of the field placements are being operated separately from connection and characterization of the educational curriculum in spite of the variety of the industrial field experiences and works in the field sites. Thus, the author of the thesis would analyze practical cases of the industrial field experiences in the past and grasp the problems of them so that we can develop models of the industrial field experiences proper for characteristics of fashion related departments. Especially, through the study the author of the thesis has developed the practical educational model where the fashion majoring educational courses can be connected with the field placement in the school industry in which the practical environment is established as in the applicable industry. In addition, it is judged that Developed educational models can be realized for subsidiary companies with close relationship with the departments besides the school based enterprises.

  • For high-speed railways (HSR) in wind prone regions, wind barriers are often installed on bridges to ensure the running safety of trains. This paper analyzes the effect of wind barriers on the running safety of a high-speed train to cross winds when it passes on a bridge. Two simply-supported (S-S) PC bridges in China, one with 32 m box beams and the other with 16 m trough beams, are selected to perform the dynamic analyses. The bridges are modeled by 3-D finite elements and each vehicle in a train by a multi-rigid-body system connected with suspension springs and dashpots. The wind excitations on the train vehicles and the bridges are numerically simulated, using the static tri-component coefficients obtained from a wind tunnel test, taking into account the effects of wind barriers, train speed and the spatial correlation with wind forces on the deck. The whole histories of a train passing over the two bridges under strong cross winds are simulated and compared, considering variations of wind velocities, train speeds and without or with wind barriers. The threshold curves of wind velocity for train running safety on the two bridges are compared, from which the windbreak effect of the wind barrier are evaluated, based on which a beam structure with better performance is recommended.

  • In [13], we developed a theory of complex Finsler manifolds to investigate the global geometry of complex Finsler manifolds. There we proved a version of Bonnet-Myers' theorem for complex Finsler manifolds with a certain condition on the Finsler metric which is a generalization of the Kahler condition for the Hermitian metric. In this paper, we show that if the holomorphic sectional curvature of M is ${\geq}\;c^2\;>\;0$, then M is simply connected. This is a generalization of the Synge's theorem in the Riemannian geometry and the Tsukamoto's theorem for Kahler manifolds. The main point of the proof lies in how we can circumvent the convex neighborhood theorem in the Riemannian geometry. A second variation formula of arc length for complex Finsler manifolds is also derived.

  • We Show that When ($M,\;\omega$) is a closed, simply connected, symplectic manifold for all $\gamma\;\in\;\pi_1(Ham(M),\;id)$ the following inequality holds: $\parallel\gamma\parallel\;{\geq}\;sup_{\={x}}\;|A(\={x})|,\;where\;\parallel\gamma\parallel$ is the coarse Hofer's norm, $\={x}$ run over all extensions to $D^2$ of an orbit $x(t)\;=\;{\varphi}_t(z)$ of a fixed point $z\;\in\;M,\;A(\={x})$ the symplectic action of $\={x}$, and the Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms {${\varphi}_t$} of M represent $\gamma$.

  • In this paper we consider the meromorphic function G(z) with a pole of order 1 at -a and analytic function F(z) with a zero -a of order 2 in $\mathbb{D}=\{z :{\mid}z{\mid}<1\}$, where -1 < a < 1. From these functions we obtain the regular simply-connected minimal surface $S=\{(u(z),\;{\nu}(z),\;H(z)):z{\in}\mathbb{D}\}$ in $E^3$ and the harmonic function $f=u+i{\nu}$ defined on $\mathbb{D}$, and then we investigate properties of the minimal surface S and the harmonic function f.

  • In this paper, we study some geometric structures of a weakly cyclic Z-symmetric manifold (briefly, $[W CZS]_n$). More precisely, we prove that a conformally flat $[W CZS]_n$ satisfying certain conditions is special conformally flat and hence the manifold can be isometrically immersed in an Euclidean manifold $E^n+1$ as a hypersurface if the manifold is simply connected. Also we show that there exists a $[W CZS]_4$ with one parameter family of its associated 1-forms.

  • Rupture of a bronchus is an unusual result of blunt trauma to the chest. We experienced a case of bronchial rupture caused by blunt chest trauma without external wound or rib fracture. This case was a 13 years old male who was elementary school student. He was compressed on anterior chest by basket ball goal post being failed down on the afternoon of admission day. After this accident, he was suffered from progressive dyspnea and chest pain. The bronchial rupture was confirmed by bronchogram, The operation was performed through standard posterolateral thoracotomy incision along the 5th rib course. The right upper lobe bronchus and intermediate bronchus was completely transected. The right upper lobectomy was done. The ruptured intermediate bronchus was connected direct simply. Post-operative course was uneventful. Thus we report this case of traumatic bronchial rupture with review of literature.
