  • Consider a p-variate($p{\geq}3$) normal distribution with mean ${\theta}$ and covariance matrix ${\sum}={\sigma}^2{\mathbf{I}}_p$ for any unknown scalar ${\sigma}^2$. In this paper we improve the James-Stein estimator of ${\theta}$ in cases of shrinking toward some vectors using the Stein variance estimator. It is also shown that this domination does not hold for the positive part versions of these estimators.

  • The aim of the study was to determine the direction and the rate of polymerization shrinkage of light-cured resin composite. Materials and Methods: A microfocus x-ray CT(computed tomography) instrument (SMX-255CT, Shimadzu Co., Kyoto, Japan) was used to analyze and characterize the pre-and post-gel phases. A microfocus x-ray tube was used to enable a focus dimension of 4 microns.(omitted)

  • Given a noisy sampled at equispaced points with white noise, we consider problems where the signal to be recovered is known to be positive; for example, images, chemical spectra or other measurements of intensities. Shrinking noisy wavelet coefficients via thresholding offers very attractive alternatives to existing methods of recovering signals from noisy data. In this paper, we propose a method of recovering the original signal from a corrupted noisy signal, guaranteeing the recovered signal positive. We first obtain wavelet coefficients by thresholding, and use a nonlinear optimization to find the denoised signal which must be positive. Numerical examples are used to illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • Consider the problem of estimating a multivariate normal mean with an unknown covarience matrix under a weighted sum of squared error losses. We first provide hierarchical Bayes estimators which shrink the usual (maximum liklihood, uniformly minimum variance unbiased) estimator towards a regression surface and then prove the admissibility of these estimators using Blyth's (1951) method.

  • In this paper, we study algebraic Ricci solitons in the Finslerian case. We show that any simply connected Finslerian algebraic Ricci soliton is a Finslerian Ricci soliton. Furthermore, we study Randers algebraic Ricci solitons. It turns out that a shrinking, steady, or expanding Randers algebraic Ricci soliton with vanishing S-curvature is Einstein, locally Minkowskian, or Riemannian, respectively.

  • We study solitons of Kählerian Norden space-time manifolds and Bochner curvature tensor in almost pseudo symmetric Kählerian space-time manifolds. It is shown that the steady, expanding or shrinking solitons depend on different relations of energy density/isotropic pressure, the cosmological constant, and gravitational constant.

  • In this paper, we consider the convergence of the shrinking projection method for quasi-$\phi$-nonexpansive mappings. Strong convergence theorems are established in a uniformly smooth and strictly convex Banach space which enjoys the Kadec-Klee property.

  • The chemically induced grain-boundary migration has been studied in MgAl2O4 spinel under ZnO atmosphere. MgAl2O4 compacts been prepared by sintering powder mixture of Al2O3 and MgO at 1$600^{\circ}C$ for 60 h in air. The sintered MgAl2O4 has been heat-treated at 150$0^{\circ}C$ in a ZnO atmosphere. During the heat-treatment grain boundaries have become curved or faceted, and the total area of grain boundaries have increased. In the migrated region, the ZnO content is higher by 6 wt% than that in other regions, indicating that the migration was induced by addition of ZnO. In some shrinking grains, the faceted planes of different grain boundaries for the same grain are parallel to each other. This result provide an experimental support for the coherency strain energy in diffusion layer of the shrinking grain as being the major driving force. Calculated coherency strain energy of MgAl2O4 shows the maximum at {111} planes and the minimum at {100} planes. Although the minimum surface energy is at {111} planes, the faceted moving boundaries are expected to be {100} planes because of lowest driving force for the grain-boundary migration.

  • The production of hydrogen from steam by reduced iron with additives such as CuO, $In_2O_3$, $MoO_3$ and $WO_3$ has been kinetically investigated. It was shown that all additives have a promoting effect on reaction activity in the order of $$MoO_3{\gg}In_2O_3{\sim_=}WO_3{\sim_=}CuO$$. The shrinking core model was applied to predict the complete conversion time and the results were quite comparable with experimental values. The reaction was carried out in a fixed flow reactor packed with reduced iron with 1 wt % of additives under the conditions, $600-750^{\circ}C$, Ar flow rate of 1 L/min and steam partial pressure of 0.085 atm. The apparent activation energies were 14.2, 20.9, 21.3, 22.4 and 27.9 kJ/mol with $MoO_3$, $In_2O_3$, $WO_3$, CuO and without additive, respectively.
