  • There are two goals in this paper. The one is development of existing CA(Cellular Automata) model to explain more realistic deceleration process to stop. The other is the application of the updated CA model to forecasting simulation to predict short term link travel time that takes a key rule in finding the shortest path of route guidance system of ITS. Car following theory of CA models don't makes not response to leading vehicle's velocity but gap or distance between leading vehicles and following vehicles. So a following vehicle running at free flow speed must meet steeply sudden deceleration to avoid back collision within unrealistic braking distance. To tackle above unrealistic deceleration rule, “Slow-to-stop” rule is integrated into NaSch model. For application to interrupted traffic flow, this paper applies “Slow-to-stop” rule to both normal traffic light and random traffic light. And vehicle packet method is used to simulate a large-scale network on the desktop. Generally, time series data analysis methods such as neural network, ARIMA, and Kalman filtering are used for short term link travel time prediction that is crucial to find an optimal dynamic shortest path. But those methods have time-lag problems and are hard to capture traffic flow mechanism such as spill over and spill back etc. To address above problems. the CA model built in this study is used for forecasting simulation to predict short term link travel time in Kangnam district network And it's turned out that short term prediction simulation method generates novel results, taking a crack of time lag problems and considering interrupted traffic flow mechanism.

  • Observed climate data are processed under the assumption that their time series are stationary, as in multi-step temperature and precipitation prediction, which usually leads to low prediction accuracy. If a climate system model is based on a single prediction model, the prediction results contain significant uncertainty. In order to overcome this drawback, this study uses a method that integrates ensemble prediction and a stepwise regression model based on a mean-valued generation function. In addition, it utilizes empirical mode decomposition (EMD), which is a new method of handling time series. First, a non-stationary time series is decomposed into a series of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), which are stationary and multi-scale. Then, a different prediction model is constructed for each component of the IMF using numerical ensemble prediction combined with stepwise regression analysis. Finally, the results are fit to a linear regression model, and a short-term climate prediction system is established using the Visual Studio development platform. The model is validated using temperature data from February 1957 to 2005 from 88 weather stations in Guangxi, China. The results show that compared to single-model prediction methods, the EMD and ensemble prediction model is more effective for forecasting climate change and abrupt climate shifts when using historical data for multi-step prediction.

  • Adopting Internet of Things (IoT)-based technologies in smart homes helps users analyze home appliances electricity consumption for better overall cost monitoring. The IoT application like smart home system (SHS) could suffer from large missing values gaps due to several factors such as security attacks, sensor faults, or connection errors. In this paper, a novel framework has been proposed to predict large gaps of missing values from the SHS home appliances electricity consumption time-series datasets. The framework follows a series of steps to detect, predict and reconstruct the input time-series datasets of missing values. A hybrid convolutional neural network-long short term memory (CNN-LSTM) neural network used to forecast large missing values gaps. A comparative experiment has been conducted to evaluate the performance of hybrid CNN-LSTM with its single variant CNN and LSTM in forecasting missing values. The experimental results indicate a performance superiority of the CNN-LSTM model over the single CNN and LSTM neural networks.

  • This study employs traditional statistical auto-regressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) and deep learning-based long short-term memory (LSTM) models to predict the deformation of earth retaining walls using inclinometer data from excavation sites. It compares the predictive capabilities of both models. The ARIMA model excels in analyzing linear patterns as time progresses, while the LSTM model is adept at handling complex nonlinear patterns and long-term dependencies in the data. This research includes preprocessing of inclinometer measurement data, performance evaluation across various data lengths and input conditions, and demonstrates that the LSTM model provides statistically significant improvements in prediction accuracy over the ARIMA model. The findings suggest that LSTM models can effectively assess the stability of retaining walls at excavation sites. Additionally, this study is expected to contribute to the development of safety monitoring systems at excavation sites and the advancement of time series prediction models.

  • Prediction and control of nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission is of great interest in industry due to stricter environmental regulations. Herein, we propose an artificial intelligence (AI)-based framework for prediction of NOx emission. The framework includes pre-processing of data for training of neural networks and evaluation of the AI-based models. In this work, Long-Short-Term Memory (LSTM), one of the recurrent neural networks, was adopted to reflect the time series characteristics of NOx emissions. A decision tree was used to determine a time window of LSTM prior to training of the network. The neural network was trained with operational data from a heating furnace. The optimal model was obtained by optimizing hyper-parameters. The LSTM model provided a reliable prediction of NOx emission for both training and test data, showing an accuracy of 93% or more. The application of the proposed AI-based framework will provide new opportunities for predicting the emission of various air pollutants with time series characteristics.

  • The purpose of this research is to evaluate a short-term export demand forecasting model reflecting individual passenger vehicle brands and market characteristics by using Vector Autoregressive (VAR) models that are based on multivariate time-series model. The short-term export demand forecasting model was created by discerning theoretical potential factors that affect the short-term export demand of individual passenger vehicle brands. Quarterly short-term export demand forecasting model for two Korean small vehicle brands (Accent and Avante) were created by using VAR model. Predictive value at t+1 quarter calculated with the forecasting models for each passenger vehicle brand and the actual amount of sales were compared and evaluated by altering subject period by one quarter. As a result, RMSE % of Accent and Avante was 4.3% and 20.0% respectively. They amount to 3.9 days for Accent and 18.4 days for Avante when calculated per daily sales amount. This shows that the short-term export demand forecasting model of this research is highly usable in terms of prediction and consistency.

  • Numerous studies of short-term, beat-to-beat variability in cardiovascular signals have used linear analysis techniques. However, no study has been done about the appropriateness of linear techniques or the comparison between linearities and nonlinearities in short-term, beat-to-beat variability. This paper aims to verify the appropriateness of linear techniques by investigating nonlinearities in short-term, beat-to-beat variability. We compared linear autoregressive moving average(ARMA) with nonlinear neural network(NN) models for predicting current instantaneous heart rate(HR) and mean arterial blood pressure(BP) from past HRs and BPs. To evaluate these models. we used HR and BP time series from the MIMIC database. Experimental results indicate that NN-based nonlinearities do not play a significant role and suggest that 10 technique provides adequate characterization of the system dynamics responsible for generating short-term, beat-to-beat variability.

  • Surface ozone concentrations are highly sensitive to meteorological variability. Therefore, in order to reveal the long-term changes in ozone due to the changes in precursor emissions, we need to remove the effects of meteorological fluctuations on the annual distribution of surface ozone. In this paper, the meteorologically adjusted trends of daily maximum surface ozone concentrations in two major Korean cities (Seoul and Busan) are investigated based on ozone data from 11 (Seoul) and 6 (Busan) sites over the period 1992 ∼ 2000. The original time series consisting of the logarithm of daily maximum ozone concentrations are splitted into long-term, seasonal and short-term component using Kolmogorov-Zurbenko (KZ) filter. Meteorological effects are removed from filtered ozone series using multiple linear regression based on meteorologcial variables. The long-term evolution of ozone forming capability due to changes in precursor emission can be obtained applying the KZ filter to the residuals of the regression. The results indicated that meteorologically adjusted long-term daily maximum ozone concentrations had a significant upward trend (Seoul: + 3.02% yr$^{-1}$ , Busan: + 3.45% yr$^{-1}$ ). These changes of meteorologically adjusted ozone concentrations represent the effects of changing background ozone concentrations as well as the more localized changes in emissions.

  • This study develops a deep learning-based methodology for predicting Crude Palm Oil (CPO) prices. Palm oil is an essential resource across various industries due to its yield and economic efficiency, leading to increased industrial interest in its price volatility. While numerous studies have been conducted on palm oil price prediction, most rely on time series forecasting, which has inherent accuracy limitations. To address the main limitation of traditional methods-the absence of stationarity-this research introduces a novel model that uses the ratio of future prices to current prices as the dependent variable. This approach, inspired by return modeling in stock price predictions, demonstrates superior performance over simple price prediction. Additionally, the methodology incorporates the consideration of lag values of independent variables, a critical factor in multivariate time series forecasting, to eliminate unnecessary noise and enhance the stability of the prediction model. This research not only significantly improves the accuracy of palm oil price prediction but also offers an applicable approach for other economic forecasting issues where time series data is crucial, providing substantial value to the industry.
