This paper presents an algorithm, which is based on Otsu's method, for accurate and robust endpoint detection for speech recognition under noisy environments. The features are extracted in time domain, and then an optimal threshold is selected by minimizing the discriminant criterion, so as to maximize the separability of the speech part and environment part. The simulation results show that the method play a good performance in detection accuracy.

We present the preliminary result of our Lagrangian perturbation theory for the large-scale structure formation, in the presence of the cold dark matter (CDM) and the baryonic fluid. In the linear order, two mutually independent pseudo-particles can describe the evolution of density fluctuations and the accuracy of the calculation is better than the 4-mode (growing, decaying, streaming, compensated) Eulerian linear perturbation theory. In the $2^{nd}$ order, the separability of pseudo-particles is not as straightforward as in the linear order, and the related difficulty in developing the $2^{nd}$ order theory will also be presented.

This paper presents a method for the automatic generation of assembly sequences based on the recursive extraction of a preferred part along with the verification of its disassemblability. To verify the disassemblability of the part we inference the geometric precedence constraints using a method of extracting separable directions for the part and determine the disassemblability cost by the separability and stability cost. The proosed method provides a local optimal solution of finding a cost effective assembly plan, and the feasibility of calculating robot motion programs by evaluating separable directions in flexible manufacturing application. A case study is given to illustrate the concepts and procedure of the proposed scheme.

In this paper, we propose a feature extraction method based on Bhattacharyya distance for multiclass problems. The Bhattacharyya distance provides a valuable information in determining the effectiveness of a feature set and has been used as separability measure for feature selection. Recently, a feature extraction algorithm hat been proposed for two normally distributed classes based on Bhattacharyya distance. In this paper, we propose to expand the previous approach to multiclass cases. Experiment results show that the proposed method compares favorably with the conventional methods.

This article discusses selects of some outstanding problems in nuclear reactor analysis, with proposed approaches thereto and numerical test results, as follows: i) multi-group approximation in the transport equation, ii) homogenization based on isolated single-assembly calculation, and iii) critical spectrum in Monte Carlo depletion.

It is known that generalized free products of finitely generated nilpotent groups are conjugacy separable when the amalgamated subgroups are cyclic or central in both factor groups. However, those generalized free products may not be conjugacy separable when the amalgamated subgroup is a direct product of two infinite cycles. In this paper we show that generalized free products of finitely generated nilpotent groups are conjugacy separable when the amalgamated subgroup is ${\langle}h{\rangle}{\times}D$, where D is in the center of both factors.

This paper compared waveform, cepstrum, and spline wavelet features with nonlinear discriminant analysis. This measure shows efficiency of speech parametrization better than old linear separability criteria and can be used to measure the efficiency of each layer of certain system. Spline wavelet transform has larger gap among classes and cepstrum is clustered better than the spline wavelet feature. Both features do not have good property for classification and we will compare Gabor wavelet transform, Mel cepstrum, delta cepstrum, etc.

For two distinct rank-1 matrices A and B, a rank-1 matrix C is called a separating matrix of A and B if the rank of A + C is 2 but the rank of B + C is 1 or vice versa. In this case, rank-1 matrices A and B are said to be separable. We show that every pair of distinct Boolean rank-l matrices are separable.

In this paper, a disassemblability evaluation has been investigated quantitatively by using an ease-of-disassembly design method. Four categories such as recognizability, approachability, separability, and treatability have been analyzed in details. A simulation software for estimating the ease-of-disassembly design method has been developed and applied to door trim and spin basket respectively as an example.

In this paper we introduce the concepts on retrievability, separability and connectedness of fuzzy submachines, which generalize those of crisp submachines. And also we generalize crisp primary submachines to those with fuzziness, from which we obtain the decomposition theorem of fuzzy submachines.
