The Effects of Mothers' Emotional Expression and Self-compassion on Preschoolers' Emotion Regulation: The Mediating Role of Preschoolers' Self-compassion (어머니의 정서표현 및 자기자비가 유아의 정서조절능력에 미치는 영향: 유아 자기자비의 매개효과)

  • Objective: This study aimed to determine whether preschoolers' self-compassion mediates the effects of mothers' emotional expression and self-compassion on preschoolers' emotional regulation abilities in children aged 4 to 6 years. Methods: The study included 305 mothers residing in City J who were raising preschoolers aged 4 to 6. Data collected were analyzed for the significance of the mediating effects among the main variables using the GLM Mediation Model in the JAMM package of the Jamovi 2.3.16 statistical program. Results: Firstly, statistically significant positive and negative correlations were found among the main variables. Secondly, preschoolers' positive self-compassion was found to partially mediate the relationship between mothers' positive emotional expression and preschoolers' emotional regulation abilities. Furthermore, preschoolers' negative self-compassion partially mediated the relationship between mothers' negative emotional expressions and preschoolers' emotional regulation abilities. Conclusion/Implications: This study identified parental and child variables influencing preschoolers' emotional regulation abilities and discussed intervention strategies for education and counseling to enhance these abilities.

A Case Study on the Effect of the Art Therapy through the Self Expression and the Interpersonal Relations by a Schizophrenic Adolescent I (정신분열증 청년의 자기표현과 상호작용의 효과에 관한 미술치료 사례연구 I)

  • Objectives : This article aims to find how effective the art therapy is on the improvement of the self expression and the interpersonal relations with others, as medium for verbal communication of schizophrenic patients. Methods : The subject of this study was one schizophrenic patient who had been treated with drugs for five years in W university hospital, as well as counseled by an art therapy oo counsel office in J city. The art therapy had been performed the total 25 sessions, fifty minute per session, one session per week, from November 28 in 2008 to April 27 in 2009. The test was by HTP. Results : The results of this study are as follows: First, in the pretest of HTP, the subject showed a little lethargy, painting very simple house-shaped figures and too simple rectangular figures corresponding to those painted by 4 or 5-year-old children. In the post-test, however, the structures of houses were described concretely and three-dimensionally, and the descriptions of people were changed into concrete figure, by which we could see the improvement effect on the self expression and the interpersonal relations. Second, in the earlier stage, there was little verbal self expression, and little self respect, staring into space and showing passive attitude without positive assertion and expression. In the later stage, however, there were positive assertion and expression, even showing sense of humor. Lastly, in the earlier stage, there were few interpersonal relations. In the later stage, however, eye contacts and the interpersonal relations were increased during conversation and in the art work process, respectively. Conclusions : These results suggest that the art therapy can be effective on improvement of the self expression and the interpersonal relations with others, as medium for verbal communication of schizophrenic patients.

The Effect of Play-Based Assert ive Training Program on Self-expression and Learning Attitude (놀이 중심 자기표현 훈련 프로그램이 자기표현 및 학습태도에 미치는 효과)

  • The object of this study is to inspect how much influence the play-based assertive training program has on the self-expression and learning attitude of elementary students. To perform this study, I set up two subjects of research. First, does the play-based assertive training program have influence on the self-expression improvement of elementary students? Second, does the play-based assertive training program have influence on the attitude of elementary students? I established 28 students in the third grade of K elementary school in Gongju City as experiment group for this research. In experiment group, 1 peformed play-based assertive training program in the class of discretion and extra-curricula activity twice a week and maintained the program for 6 weeks. By the standard of 12 times of performances, I put pre-test and post-test into operation. The major consequences revealed through above processes are followed: First, as the consequence of analyses of differences between pre-test and post-test about self-expression of experiment group adapted by play-using assertion training program, the level of self-expression was advanced meaningfully. Second, as the consequences of analyses of differences between pre-test and post-test about learning-attitude of experiment group adapted by play-based assertive training program, the level of learning-attitude was advanced meaningfully. Among 8 sub-fields of learning attitude, the field of superiority, accomplishment motives, concentration, self-study show statistically meaningful difference s respectively. The conclusion drawn from above consequences is that the play-based assertive training program is very effective in developing students' self-expression and attitude for learning.

A Study on Housing Life-Style and Decision Making for Purchasing House (주생활양식이 주택구매 의사결정에 미치는 영향분석)

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the influence of demographic and housing life-style variables on evaluation or choice criteria to the decision making for purchasing house. The results of this research were as follows ; 1) In analysis on housing life-style according to demographic variables, it showed that the age group had significant difference in decoration pursuits ; the educational group had significant difference in self-expression ; the income group had significant difference in self-expression and interior function. 2) In analysis on evaluation or choice criteria of decision making for purchasing house according to demographic variables, it showed that : the age group had significant difference in surrounding environment ; the educational group had significant difference in interior environment, interior or exterior facilty, apartment management, economics and surrounding environment ; the income group had significant difference in avail of approach, convenience facilities, apartment management, economics and surrounding environment. 3) In analysis the influence of demographic and housing life-style variables on evaluation or choice criteria to decision making for purchasing house, it was effected on educational level, decoration pursuit, practicality and ostentation in interior environment ; decoration pursuit, self-expression, interior function and practicality in interior or exterior facility ; decoration pursuit, practicality and ostentation in avail ability of approach and convenience facilities ; self-expression, practicality and ostentation in apartment management and economics ; age level, income level, decoration pursuit, self-expression, practicality and ostentation in surrounding environment.

A Study on the Effects of Training in Self-Expression on Children's Initiative (자기표현활동이 유아의 주도성에 미치는 영향)

  • Training in self-expression was provided 24 times over 8 weeks for 5-year-old children in two classes in A kindergarten at an elementary school located in G metropolitan city. The posttest conducted at the conclusion of the training session confirmed significant statistical differences between the two groups. All the subfields on initiative, such as emotional ability, communication, and achievement motivation showed significant differences between groups.

Characteristics and Relationships of Emotional Intelligence and Self-Esteem in Children (아동의 정서지능과 자아존중감의 특성 및 상호관계)

  • This study of the characteristics and the relationships of children's emotional intelligence (EQ) and self-esteem had a sample of 1060 5th grade children. The rank order of four EQ factors from highest to lowest was "perception of emotion", "other-regulation and self-expression", "self-regulation and emotion utilization", and "empathy". Among self-esteem factors, "general self-worth" had the highest correlation with overall self-esteem; "physical appearance" was most strongly correlated with "general self-worth". Relationships between EQ and self-esteem showed that higher EQ was associated with higher self-esteem. Among EQ factors, "other-regulation and self-expression" was the strongest predictor of "behavioral conduct." The next strongest predictor of self-esteem among EQ factors was "self-regulation and utilization of emotion". Other self-esteem factors well predicted by EQ were "general self-worth", and "scholastic competence".

The Effects of Multiple Body Image on Clothing Behavior (다차원적 신체이미지가 의복행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between various aspects of multiple body image and clothing behavior i.e. individuality/self expression, body improvement, social approval, sex appeal. The data were collected from 498 female university students in Seoul and Kyong Ki Province and analyzed using factor analysis, Pearsons correlations, reliability test, analysis of variance, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Four dimensions of multiple body image were identified : appearance, body attractiveness, degree of fitness and atheletic skill. 2) Perception on appearance and fitness aspect of multiple body image has a positive correlation with all aspects of clothing behavior i.e. individuality/self expression, body improvement, social approval and sex appeal of clothing behavior. Body attractiveness and atheletic skill of multiple body image also had a positive correlation with individuality/self expression, and sex appeal.

Facial Expression Recognition through Self-supervised Learning for Predicting Face Image Sequence

  • In this paper, we propose a new and simple self-supervised learning method that predicts the middle image of a face image sequence for automatic expression recognition. Automatic facial expression recognition can achieve high performance through deep learning methods, however, generally requires a expensive large data set. The size of the data set and the performance of the algorithm are tend to be proportional. The proposed method learns latent deep representation of a face through self-supervised learning using an existing dataset without constructing an additional dataset. Then it transfers the learned parameter to new facial expression reorganization model for improving the performance of automatic expression recognition. The proposed method showed high performance improvement for two datasets, CK+ and AFEW 8.0, and showed that the proposed method can achieve a great effect.

The Effects of Pre-service Early Childhood Teachers' Self-expression and Stress Coping Style on their Human Nature (예비유아교사의 자기표현과 스트레스 대처방식이 인성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of pre-service early childhood teachers' self-expression and stress coping style on their human nature. More specifically, this study attempted to investigate how teachers' human nature, self-expression and stress coping style are correlated with another and determine how much human nature is influenced by the other variables, ultimately providing basic information necessary for improving the humanity of pre-service preschool teachers. Findings of the study can be summarized as follows. First, correlations among pre-service early childhood teachers' self-expression, stress coping style and human nature were investigated to find that those teachers' human nature and self-expression have close relationships with each other and that the two variables are significantly related with their stress coping style. Second, the influences of pre-service preschool teachers' self-expression and stress coping style on their human nature were analyzed to find that the human nature of those teachers as a whole and some sub-areas of the variables like positive self-concept and human creativity have significant relationships with their self-expression and stress coping style. Finally, based on these findings, this study discussed how to establish and manage a curriculum that helps to improve the human nature of pre-service early childhood teachers of junior colleges. It also hopes to find effective ways to manage the department of education.

A Study on the Efficiency of Fashion Design Classes Using Humanities Self-Reflection Writing (인문학적 자기성찰 글쓰기를 활용한 패션디자인 수업의 효율성 연구)

  • This study analyzed the learning effect, through a satisfaction survey and NVivo qualitative analysis, of fashion design classes using humanities self-reflection writing. The results are as follows. First, with regard to learning satisfaction, learners perceived the class as efficient and showed overall satisfaction. Second, learners' opinions were classified into self-reflection writing, design process, new experience of expression, and the understanding of class activities. Third, in self-reflection writing, learners discovered their tendencies and values while exploring their identity through deep thinking. Fourth, in the design process, learners set the design concept consistently through writing. Fifth, in the new experience of expression, learners recognized the idea produced through writing as the result of thought and considered it a new expression method for design. Sixth, in the understanding of class activities, learners were interested in the process and considered it an activity through which to build their own style in design expression. Design class activities using self-reflection writing drew a positive response and presented the possibility of educational use. The teaching method of this study is expected to be used as a humanistic method for expressions in various design fields.
