  • In this paper, we describe self-training super-resolution. Our approach is based on example based algorithms. Example based algorithms need training images, and selection of those changes the result of the algorithm. Consequently it is important to choose training images. We propose self-training based super-resolution algorithm which use an input image itself as a training image. It seems like other example based super-resolution methods, but we consider training phase as the step to collect primitive information of the input image. And some artifacts along the edge are visible in applying example based algorithms. We reduce those artifacts giving weights in consideration of the edge direction. We demonstrate the performance of our approach is reasonable several synthetic images and real images.

  • For integral self-reciprocal polynomials P(z) and Q(z) with all zeros lying on the unit circle, does there exist integral self-reciprocal polynomial $G_r(z)$ depending on r such that for any r, $0{\leq}r{\leq}1$, all zeros of $G_r(z)$ lie on the unit circle and $G_0(z)$ = P(z), $G_1(z)$ = Q(z)? We study this question by providing examples. An example answers some interesting questions. Another example relates to the study of convex combination of two polynomials. From this example, we deduce the study of the sum of certain two products of finite geometric series.

  • This paper presents a similarity search method based on mixed norm for enhancing self-example-based single image super-resolution. In order to incorporate the local statistical characteristics of the patches into the super-resolution image reconstruction, we propose a method to determine the order of the norm according to the patch inclination and use it as a similarity search between patches. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed similarity search method has the capability to improve the performance of existing search method.

  • In the single-input and single-output system, the parameter of plant is scalar polynomial, but in the multiple input and multiple output, it accompanies, being matrix polynomial, the consideration of observable controlability index or problems non-commutation in matrix polynomial as well as degree, and it is more complex to deal with. Therefore, it is thought that a full research on the single-input and single-output system is not sufficient. This paper proposes that problems of minimum variance self-tuning regulator by using numerical calculation example of multivariable system and pole assignment self-tuning regulator.

  • In the paper is proposed a hierarchical self-learning fuzzy controller for balancing and position control of an circular inverted pendulum system. To stabilize the pendulum at a specified position, the hierarchical fuzzy controller consists of a supervisory controller, a self-learning fuzzy controller, and a forced disturbance generator. Simulation example shows the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper we describe a new method for multimodal function optimization using genetic algorithms(GAs). We propose adaptation rules for GA parameters such as population size, crossover probability and mutation probability. In the self organizing genetic algorithm(SOGA), SOGA parameters change according to the adaptation rules. Thus, we do not have to set the parameters manually. We discuss about SOGA and those of other approaches for adapting operator probabilities in GAs. The validity of the proposed algorithm will be verified in a simulation example of system identification.

  • In the paper an multivariable decoupling self-tuning algorithm is proposed for controller design, by specifying the closed-loop behaviour of the system in the form of a reference model, so that the controller parameters can be estimated on-line as the process development. The effectiveness of this algorithm in controlling multivariable systems is demonstrated by simulation example in spite of the usual implementation problems of self-tuning controllers.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the problem solving instruction facilitating novice learner to represent the problem. For the purpose, we mainly focused on three aspects of problem solving. First, learner should represent the targeted problem and its solutions for problem solving. Second, from crucial notions of cognitive load theory, learner's mental load should be optimized for problem representation. Third, for optimizing students' mental load, experts may support making their thinking more visible and mapping from their intuition to expert practice. We drew the design principles as follows. First, since providing worked examples for the targeted problem has been considered to minimize analogical errors as well as reduce cognitive load in problem representation at line of problem solving and instructional research, it is needed to elaborate the way of designing. The worked example alternatively corresponds to expert schema that consists of domain knowledge as well as strategies for expert-like problem representation and solution. Thus, it may help learner to represent what the problem is and how to solve it in problem space. Second, principle can be that expert should scaffold learner's self-explanations. Because the students are unable to elicit the rationale from worked example, the expert's triggering scaffold may be critical in that process. The unexplained and incomplete parts of the example should be completed not by expert's scaffold but by themselves. Critical portion of the expert's scaffold is to explain about how to apply and represent the given problem, since students' initial representations may be reached at superficial or passive pattern of example elaboration. Finally, learner's mental model on the designated problem domain should be externalized or visualized for one's reflection as well as expert's scaffolding activities. The visualization helps learner to identify one's partial or incorrect model. The correct model of learner could be constructed by expert's help.

  • In this work, we consider constacyclic and cyclic self-dual codes over the rings $R_k$. We start with theoretical existence results for constacyclic and cyclic self-dual codes of any length over $R_k$ and then construct cyclic self-dual codes over $R_1={\mathbb{F}}_2+u{\mathbb{F}}_2$ of even lengths from lifts of binary cyclic self-dual codes. We classify all free cyclic self-dual codes over $R_1$ of even lengths for which non-trivial such codes exist. In particular we demonstrate that our constructions provide a counter example to a claim made by Batoul et al. in [1] and we explain why their claim fails.
