A Study on the Effectiveness of a Host Family Experience Program on the Adaptive Behavior and Self-Management Skills of Children with Severe Disabilities at a Facility (시설 중증장애아동의 결연가정체험 프로그램을 통한 적응행동과 자기관리기술 효과성 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of a host family experience program on the adaptive behavior and self-management skills of children with severe disabilities and to suggest its applicability into clinical practice. The investigators developed a host family experience program and researched the pre-test and post-test designs with nonequivalent groups. The experiment and comparison groups were comprised of 34 children with severe disabilities that lived at S, a care facility for the severely disabled. They were examined for the program's effects on them before and after the application. After analyzing 17 cases for differences in the subjects' quantitative scores, a qualitative analysis was carried out on one representative case. The quantitative analysis results reveal that the experiment group showed a significant increase in their scores of adaptive behavior and self-management skills compared to the comparison group. Positive changes were also observed among the former group in the qualitative analysis. Thus the host family experience program was effective in improving the adaptive behavior and self-management skills of the children with severe disabilities at the facility. These findings indicate that the host family experience program played a positive role in enhancing the adaptive behavior and self-management skills of the children with severe disabilities at the facility and that such host family experience programs should be applied and reinforced in the field of social welfare practice.

  • The Self-Adaptive Vision Correction Algorithm (SAVCA) developed in this study was suggested for improving usability by modifying four parameters (Modulation Transfer Function Rate, Astigmatic Rate, Astigmatic Factor and Compression Factor) except for Division Rate 1 and Division Rate 2 among six parameters in Vision Correction Algorithm (VCA). For verification, SAVCA was applied to two-dimensional mathematical benchmark functions (Six hump camel back / Easton and fenton) and 30-dimensional mathematical benchmark functions (Schwefel / Hyper sphere). It showed superior performance to other algorithms (Harmony Search, Water Cycle Algorithm, VCA, Genetic Algorithms with Floating-point representation, Shuffled Complex Evolution algorithm and Modified Shuffled Complex Evolution). Finally, SAVCA showed the best results in the engineering problem (speed reducer design). SAVCA, which has not been subjected to complicated parameter adjustment procedures, will be applicable in various fields.

Self-Recurrent Wavelet Neural Network Based Direct Adaptive Control for Stable Path Tracking of Mobile Robots

  • This paper proposes a direct adaptive control method using self-recurrent wavelet neural network (SRWNN) for stable path tracking of mobile robots. The architecture of the SRWNN is a modified model of the wavelet neural network (WNN). Unlike the WNN, since a mother wavelet layer of the SRWNN is composed of self-feedback neurons, the SRWNN has the ability to store the past information of the wavelet. For this ability of the SRWNN, the SRWNN is used as a controller with simpler structure than the WNN in our on-line control process. The gradient-descent method with adaptive learning rates (ALR) is applied to train the parameters of the SRWNN. The ALR are derived from discrete Lyapunov stability theorem, which are used to guarantee the stable path tracking of mobile robots. Finally, through computer simulations, we demonstrate the effectiveness and stability of the proposed controller.

The Relationship Between Multiple Intelligences and Social Adaptability of Gifted and General Students in Elementary School (초등영재와 일반학생의 다중지능과 사회적 적응행동과의 관계연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the discrete intelligences from multiple intelligence affecting the social adaptive behavior, help to understand their relation and draw educational implications to be used in supporting gifted students who have social and emotional difficulties by comparing and analyzing the relation between multiple intelligence and social adaptive behavior of gifted and general elementary students. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, the levels of both multiple intelligence and social adaptive behavior were significantly higher in gifted elementary students compared to general ones on all sub-factores, indicating that the gifted elementary students are more adaptive in such constructs as self-efficacy, self-esteem, communicative skill, school life and interpersonal skill compared to general ones. Second, the association between multiple intelligence and social adaptive behavior was statistically significant both in gifted and general elementary students, indicating that the two constructs have close relation with each other. Third, for the gifted elementary students, the logical-mathematical and interpersonal intelligences had explanatory powers for self-efficacy, self-esteem, communicative skill, adaptation in school life, interpersonal skill while, for the general ones, intra- and inter-personal intelligences had explanatory powers for most domains of social adaptive behaviors, indicating that development of intelligences affecting the social adaptive behavior many have positive effects on social and emotional development of both gifted and general elementary students.

The Effects of Maternal Emotion Expression, Temperament and Self-Esteem on Emotion Regulation among Children (어머니의 정서표현과 아동의 기질 및 자아존중감이 정서조절능력에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study examined the path model of maternal emotional expression, temperament and self-esteem on emotion regulation among children. The subjects were 487 5th and 6th graders. Data was gathered through questionnaires reported by children and their mothers and analyzed by structural equation modeling. The results showed that children's 'activity level' temperament and maternal negative emotional expression directly affected maladaptive emotion regulation. Children's 'emotionality' temperament and maternal positive emotional expression directly affected adaptive emotion regulation. Children's 'approach-flexibility' temperament and self-esteem directly affected both maladaptive and adaptive emotion regulation. Maternal emotional expression and children's self-esteem mediated between children's temperament and emotion regulation. Additionally, the most important variable predicting children's maladaptive emotion regulation was the children's 'activity level' temperament, and the most important variable for adaptive emotion regulation was the children's 'emotionality' temperament.

  • Active noise control uses the intentional superposition of acoustic waves to create a destructive interference pattern such that a reduction of the unwanted sound occurs. In active noise control system the choice of a control structure and design of the controller are the main issues of concern. In real acoustic fields there are a vast number of noise sources with time-varying nature and the characteristics of transducers and the geometric set-up of control system are subject to change. Accordingly the control system should be designed to adapt such circumstances so that required level of performance is maintained. In this paper, the adaptive control algorithm for self-tuning adaptive controller is presented for the application in active noise control system. Self-tuning is a direct integration of identification and controller design algorithm in such a manner that the two processes proceed sequentially. The least mean square algorithm was used for the identification schemes and adaptive weighted minimum variance control algorithm was applied for self-tuning controller. Computer simulation results for self-tuning feedback controller are presented. And simulation results was shown to be useful for the situation in which the periodic noise sources act on the acoustic field.

  • This paper describes the self-adaptive Content Service Network (CSN) on Application Level Active Network (ALAN). Web caching technology comprises Content Delivery Network (CDN) for content distribution as well as Content Service Network (CSN) for service distribution. The IETF working group on Open Pluggalble Edge Service (OPES) is the works closely related to CSN. But it can be expected that the self-adaptation in ubiquitous computing environment will be deployed. The existing content service on CSN lacks in considering self-adaptation. This results in inability of existing network to support the additional services. Therefore, in order to address the limitations of the existing networks, this paper suggests Self-adaptive Content Service Network (CSN) using the GME and the extended ALAN to insert intelligence into the existing network.

  • In this study, self-tuning adaptive control using state observer is developed. Self-tuning adaptive controller that estimates the parameters of the system in real time and generates the optimal control signals has robust characteristic about varying load and external disturbances. In addition, state observer without sensors is applied, thus the control can be performed more quickly and exactly. Since chopper is used commonly in practical drives, the characteristics of the chopper are included in state observer algorithm, which, in turn, makes the system exact estimation. Since series type DC motor has nonlinear models, linearizing approach are investigated. to realize the proposed algorithm it requires fast calculation in real time. TMS320C31, digital signal processor, is applied to realized the adaptive control algorithms.

  • A study on the improvement of tracking performance of a 3 DOF planar parallel manipulator is performed. A class of adaptive tracking control sheme is designed using self tuning adaptive fuzzy logic control theory. This control sheme is composed of three classical PD controller and a multi learning type self tuning adaptive fuzzy logic controller set. PD controller is tuned roughly by manual setting a priori and fuzzy logic controller is tuned precisely by the gradient descent method for a global solution during run-time, so the proposed control scheme is tuned more rapidly and precisely than the single learning type self tuning adaptive fuzzy logic control sheme for a local solution. The control performance of the proposed algorithm is verified through experiments.

  • Globally stabilizing adaptive fuzzy state- and output-feedback controllers for the fully nonaffine pure-feedback nonlinear system are proposed in this paper. By reformulating the original pure-feedback system to a standard normal form with respect to newly defined state variables, the proposed controllers require no backstepping design procedures. Avoiding backstepping makes the controller structure and stability analysis to be considerably simplified. For the global stabilty of the clossed-loop system, the self-structuring fuzzy system whose memebership functions and fuzzy rules are automatically generated and tuned is adopted. The proposed controllers employ only one fuzzy logic system to approximate unknown nonlinear function, which highlights the simplicity of the proposed adaptive fuzzy controller. Moreover, the output-feedback controller of the considered system proposed in this paper have not been dealt with in any literature yet.
