  • The present study has a dual purpose to investigate the current state of school English library and needs required for its effective use, and to propose a reading program at the school library. The literature on school library was reviewed. A questionnaire survey was done to find out the current situation of English library at the secondary school. The analysis of 26 secondary English teachers' responses reveals that there was the absence of librarians or reading specialists at the school English library. It was also found that the uses of the English library were limited due to the absence of the specialists, no guidelines, and no link between the curriculum and the library use. A case study on a 2-week special reading program at the school English library was conducted and 15 middle school students took part in the project. The participants took pre- and post-tests to identify their reading level using a software and did a variety of reading activities using the books selected according to their level. The comparison of the tests shows that most of the students' reading level improved after the reading program. The analysis of their views on the program and its effects reveals that they gained confidence in reading and their vocabulary understanding was improved. Some suggestions are made for the effective management of the school English library.

  • According to the previous studies, the science education departments in the college of education should develop better curricula to teach future secondary school teachers in a more professional way As one example of such curricula developments. one important topics of modem physics was integrated to teach the future high school physics teachers In the physics education departments. The title is "The Physics of Solar Constant Measurement The surrounding core physics for this measurements were pulled together with these important points in minds(1) clear goal of learning In the teachers college physics(2) Clear explanation of physics and visualization of important technologies for the high school students(3) these teachings should encourage for the students to use the knowledge and technologies learned through the class toward the industrial applications Korea will move toward one of the heavily industrialized countries in the world where the physics education can become key player to manufacture physics based products. Therefore developments of physics curricula which relates teachers college, high school, and industry will become more and more Important.

When the teachers made their class in the section of housing, they emphasized respectively as the textual order: the space of housing and family life, the utilization of space, clean of residing circumstance in the middle school: and in the high school there was also concerned to the textual order: choice of housing, the house planning, interior design, maintenance of house. The teachers focused into the arrange of furniture and interior design for the students in the class, drawing of a plan in the contents of practical experience and performance. According to the survey results, the main point of class in housing should be emphasized the arranging of own room and function of other spaces in house for the students in the middle school. The high school curriculum should focus on the practical area to connect with the interior design. And in the section of housing it was needed to add the contents of management in the multi-family housing, housing problems, neighborhood environment for elderly, and also community planning.

  • We studied aspects of secondary school science teachers in the Chonbuk province concerning their science-related attitudes using the several measuring tools. We applied the multiple comparison to twelve factors at the science teachers 'backgrounds and analyzed the discrepancy in group levels. Science teachers feel half-hearted for the attitudes related to science teachers show a high correlation between the attitudes toward science and the scientific attitudes. We examined the tendency to the science-related attitudes of science teachers having various backgrounds within 5 percent differences of P-value. The contented teachers for their occupations marked higher than the other teachers in the tendency to the science-related attitudes, and the attitude-score of the science teachers graduated from regular colleges also marked higher than the teachers from the training institutes or the different majors. We have investigated the teachers just in Chonbuk province, but we should recognize that the scores in both the perception and the teachers are not improved comparing with the before-studies of Lee(1985), Park(1993), etc. As a result, the development of measuring tools which teachers can examine themselves as their features is needed and the educational systems to specialize the science education should be improved through the various programs for teachers' training courses.

  • The aim of this study is to raise a cognition and necessity of effective geoheritage education for pre-service teachers. We conducted a survey research of 190 elementary and secondary pre-service teachers in Chung-buk province, 2013. The survey showed that pre-service teachers did not recognize and explain geoheritatges well due to lack of education even though they have heard about 'geoheritages' through broadcast media. Although most pre-service teachers were not trained for geoheritage courses, some of them were educated from their elementary and middle school teachers. However, even the trained pre-service teachers have insufficient cognition for geoheritages, either. Some of pre-service teachers recognized the significance of geoheritages and responded to a necessity of geoheritage education. The pre-service teachers recognized that education for geoheritages is not included in present elementary and secondary curriculum, even though education of geoheritages by teachers at school would be the most effective approach. Furthermore, the pre-service teachers answered that elementary school curriculum should raise much curiosity and provide effective learning for geoheritage education even though negative views are present such that students may have to spend considerable time for geoheritage education. Finally, the pre-service teachers expect to experience with field activities for geoheritage education as a present curriculum, and responded that they would prefer video aids for education provided from professional geoheritage organization. As a result of this investigation we provide strategy for introducing to Pre-service teachers about value and preciousness of geoheritage.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate some implications for optics education and improvement of the Examination for Appointing Secondary School Physics Teachers (EASSPT), by analyzing the problems in EASSPT. For these purpose, we analyzed 38 optics problems of the EASSPT from the 16 school years of 2002 to 2017. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, optics problems were presented in 10.8% of the physics subject area, which was least frequently. Second, many problems have addressed specific areas such as Snell's law, image of a single lens, or interference. Few problems were found in many other evaluation areas, including optical instruments and aberrations. Third, compared to other areas, optics problems were presented as relatively easy questions, and the problems were presented in more laboratory contexts than daily-life contexts. In addition, we have discussed implications for EASSPT and in-service physics-teacher training.

  • The present study explores mathematics teachers' understanding of division by zero and their approaches to explaining the impossibility of division by zero. This study analyzes Chinese and Korean middle school mathematics teachers' responses to the teaching task of explaining the impossibility of dividing 7 by zero, and examples of teachers' reasoned explanations for their answers are presented. The findings from this study suggest that most Korean teachers offer multiple types of mathematical explanations for justifying the impossibility of division by zero, while Chinese teachers' explanations were more uniform and based less on mathematical ideas than those of their Korean counterparts. Another finding from this study is that teachers' particular conceptions of zero were strongly associated with their justifications for the impossibility of division by zero, and the influence of the teachers' conceptions of zero was revealed as a barrier in composing a well-reasoned explanation for the impossibility of division by zero. One of the practical implications of this study is those teachers' basic attitudes toward always attempting to give explanations for mathematical facts or mathematical concepts do not seem to be derived solely from their sufficient knowledge of the facts or concepts of mathematics.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate secondary students' perception of a good secondary science classes. Subjects were 18 secondary students who enrolled in alternative school located in Korea. The instruments of this study was a questionnaire which consisted of 18 items on 4 domains. Also data were collected from in-deep interviews and students' drawing. The results of the study were summarized as follows; First, students explained that good schools have the characteristics of the interesting and respectful atmosphere. Also there are good relationships between teachers and students. Second, they emphasized that good teachers are humanistic teachers. Third, good science classes are based on the constructivism in terms of the education methods. The results suggest that it may be necessary to remodel the merits of the alternative schools to solve the problem of public school. It is important to develop expertise of the science teachers in alternative school through teacher education programs based on the constructivism. Also it is necessary to provide appropriate learning space and various media for effective science teaching and learning in alternative school.

Yun Gyeong-hye(2001)'s scale that was based on Son Jeong-hwan(1990)'s teacher job scale was employed. For data analyses. t-tests. ANOVAs. Scheffe tests for pairwise comparison. Pearson's correlations were utilized. The findings of this study illustrated that the marital satisfaction of the secondary school married female teachers were significantly related to their job performance. This indicated that their marital satisfaction served to enhance their job performance. and furthermore. that could be said to determine the quality of school education.
