  • This study was performed to test the validity and reliability of the Health Self-Determinism Index for Children(HSDI-C), an instrument designed to measure dimensions and strength of motivation in health behavior, to improve the applicability of the tool through application to the various samples. The convenient sample of 148 (boys=75, girls=72 third grade=42, fourth grade=22, fifth grade=32, sixth grade=52 : Caucasian=72, Asian=30, African=19) comprised the children at a chatholic elementary school in Chicago. The children completed English version of HSDI-C from December 5th, 1994 to January l0th, 1995. The findings were as follows : 1. Four factors of HSDI-C were isolated through the principal component analysis and oblique rotation, and explained 48% of the variance in total score. Low correlations among four factors were anticipated because each factor contributed uniquely, All items of the tool loaded above .30 on one of 4 factors. But items loaded on each factor in this study were very different from those in the previous studies. 2. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for internal consistency was .81 for the total items and .57∼ .81 for 4 subscales. 3. The differences of HSDI-c mean scores between boys and girls and that of among races were not statistically signifcant, but the mean score of girls and the Caucasian were relatively high. The total mean score of the scale was highest at the 3rd grade, decreased at the 4th or 5th grade, and reincreased at the 6th grade. The trend of mean score of four subscales was similar to that of total mean score. According to the results, suggested below : 1. The items loaded on each factor in this study were very different from those in the previous studies. To clear away the problem of the conceptual confusion, HSDI-C needs to be performed to various and large samples. 2. Unexpectedly, the HSDI-C mean score decreased at middle school age. A longitudinal study will be helpful to search for the change trend of the intrinsic motivation. 3. To improve the applicabilty of the HSDI-C, various reliability and validity test methods besides factor analysis or internal consistency are recommended.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of three functional performance tests and one-legged hop test and to establish the reference data of the three functional performance tests of the active young Korean men. Materials and methods: We performed five tests on 40 normal subjects such as one-legged hop test (single hop, triple hop) and the three functional performance tests (carioca test, co-contraction test, shuttle run test). The mean age was 28.4 years. The mean score of Tegner activity scale was 6.2 and Lysholm score 98.2 Mean value and standard deviation were obtained. The correlation of age, height and weight with the results, the relationship between FPT and one-legged hop test and the mean difference between dominant and non-dominant limbs were statistically calculated. Results: All data obtained were normally distributed and there were no significant relationship between age, height and weight. The paired t-test of one legged hop test showed no statistical significance between dominant and non-dominant limbs. The results of one legged hop test had strong relationship with functional performance test. Conclusion; The three functional performance tests can be a useful functional test in ACL-insufficient athletes. Our results can be used as normal reference data of the normal active Korean men.

  • The side impact test in the Korean New Car Assessment program (KNCAP) has been conducted since 2003. The side impact test method has been contributed to the improvement of the vehicle side structure and the enhancement of the occupant protection performance for the domestic vehicles. The pole side impact test method introduced in the KNCAP in 2010 to enhance the head protection under the severe side crash environment. The pole side impact test is optional for the additional score to be added to the overall rating score. The test results of side and pole side impact test for five vehicles were introduced and compared.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify differences in cognitive function according to the presence or absence of apraxia and the tasks most relevant to the cognitive function among the various types of tasks in the apraxia test. The subjects were 42 community residents who participated in a cognitive rehabilitation program related to dementia in a Chungbuk area. MMSE-K and BCoS(Birmingham Cognitive Screen) apraxia test were administered to all subjects. The apraxia test includes three types of tasks, gesture production tasks that make meaningful movements according to verbal instructions, gesture recognition tasks that display behavior after make sense of meanings, and meaningless imitation task. Apraxia group(n=30, MMSE-K mean score: 25) showed lower cognitive function than group without apraxia(n=12, MMSE-K mean score: 28). All tasks in the apraxia test showed a significant correlation with cognitive function, but the meaningless imitation task had a negligible correlation. The apraxia test is a good way to assess cognitive function, and it may be more effective to use meaningful behavior to replace cognitive testing.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the job stress level of call center workers and figure out its relation with cognitive emotion regulation strategies as a cognitive coping strategy. Methods: Data collection was conducted on 985 call center workers, working for K companies in Korea. ANOVA, t-test, Scheffe's test and multiple regression have been conducted for the data analysis using SAS 9.0 software. Results: The total job stress score of subjects ranges $Q_{25{\sim}49}$ (the lower 50%) whereas the score of job demand and job control ranges $Q_{50{\sim}74}$ (the upper 50%), and its sectional job stress level is high. Since job stress is the major factor affecting cognitive emotion regulation strategies, it is shown that when the job stress score gets higher, the score of positive cognitive emotion regulation strategies gets decreased but the score of negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies, increased. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop and apply an effective stress easing method for call center workers which reduces negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies and increases positive ones.
