The Effects of Body Type Perception on the Quality of Life and Disease Morbidity

  • Purpose. This study reported on body type perception of people aged ${\geq}19years$, regardless of gender, and on its association with disease morbidity and the quality of life and aimed to observe the effects of stress on body weight perception, disease morbidity, and the quality of life. Methods. The data from 218,899 persons aged ${\geq}19years$ who were respondents to the 2010 Community Health Survey were finally analyzed. A designated program was used to perform complex sample analysis; chi-square test was carried out to determine body type perception by the general characteristics and disease status and analyze health-related behavior and weight control behavior by body type perception, and multiple logistic regression was used to observe the effects of body type perception on mental health and the quality of life. Results. 34.9% of all the respondents misperceived their body type and females were more likely to misperceive their body type. The older they were, the more poorly they perceived their body type; those perceiving their body type poorly were significantly more susceptible to both hypertension and diabetes. When correction was made in relation to gender, age, and so on, those perceiving their body type excessively were more susceptible to hypertension (1.43[1.367-1.050]) and diabetes morbidity (1.36[1.294-1.428]). Body type perception affected the quality of life: the respondents perceiving their body type poorly (0.91[0.884-0.940]) or excessively (0.75[0.720-0.770]) showed lower quality of life than those perceiving their body type correctly. Conclusions. Distorted body type perception affected disease morbidity and the quality of life: the respondents excessively perceiving their body type were significantly more susceptible to both hypertension and diabetes and those perceiving their body type excessively or poorly showed lower quality of life than those perceiving it correctly. It is therefore necessary to make multilateral efforts to cultivate correct body type perception.

  • 본 연구는 초등학교 저학년 학생을 대상으로 과학 진로교육 프로그램을 개발하고 적용하여 초등학교 저학년에서의 과학 진로교육의 가능성과 발전방안을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다. 그를 위하여 먼저 초등학교 저학년 학생이 가진 과학자와 과학에 대한 이미지를 분석하고, 과학 진로교육 프로그램 적용 후 과학자와 과학에 대한 인식의 변화를 살펴보았다. 또 과학자 되어보기 활동을 통하여 과학에 대한 흥미를 알아보고, 과학 진로교육 프로그램에 대한 학생의 인식을 설문지와 면담을 통하여 분석하였다. 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등 저학년용 과학 진로교육 프로그램은 학생들의 과학자와 과학에 대한 인식에 긍정적인 영향을 주었다. 둘째, 초등 저학년용 과학 진로교육 프로그램은 학생들의 과학에 대한 흥미에 영향을 준다. 셋째, 초등 저학년용 과학 진로교육 프로그램에 대한 학생들의 인식은 긍정적으로 나타났다. 학생들은 프로그램에 대한 흥미도, 참여도, 이해도 모두에 높은 점수를 주었다.

Students' Visual Representation of Mathematics

  • This paper takes another approach in assessing students' perception of mathematics. Instead of asking for verbal description of the students' perception of mathematics, we asked the respondents who were all college students to draw their perception of mathematics. This relatively new approach enabled students to take a second look of how they perceived math and, at the same time, explored students' creativity and provided a less austere appearance to mathematics which was taken usually in a more formal and severe manner. This approach of assessing students' perception of mathematics generated new information that could not be normally gleaned from other approaches like Likert Scale. Some drawings of mathematics of the respondents reinforced their math affect towards mathematics. For those who hated math, their drawings revealed so the same is true with those who loved mathematics. Examining the visual representations of mathematics and looking for commonalities, the researcher found a number of interesting themes that may shed some light to educators' understanding of students' math affect.

판막치환수술후 환자들의 건강인지도에 영향을 미치는 제요인에 관한 연구 (An Exploratory Study on the Main Factors Affecting Health Perception of the Patients Following Cardiac Valve Replacement Surgery)

  • This study was attempted to investigate the main factors affecting health perception of the patients following cardiac valve replacement surgery. Data were collected from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31, 1984 through administration of questionnaire developed for this study by the researcher. The subject was 95 patients who received follow up care following cardiac valve replacemert surgery at S.N.U.H. The data were analyzed by T-test, oneway ANOVA, pearson correlation and multiple regression according to dependent variables. The results were as follows. \circled1 Average self-health perception of those patients. were 4.62, (maximum; 7 minimum; 1) and they showed on affirmative response for their health condition, \circled2 There was significant difference in health perception according to sex difference. Men had higher health perception than women. (t=2,83, p=0.006) \circled3 There was significant difference in health perception according to occupation. Those who had occupation showed higher health perception those who had no occupation. (t=3.25, p=0.002) \circled4 The longer post-operative period elapsed, the higher health perception was, and there was significant difference in health perception (f=0.2958, p=0.002). \circled5 The higher age was, the lower health perception was, and there was a significant difference in health perception. (${\gamma}$= -0.2485, p=0.008) \circled6 The fewer subjective psychosomatic symptoms were, the higher health perception was, and there was a significant difference in health perception. (f = -0.4988, p=0.0000) \circled7 The more active daily activities were, the higher health perception was, and there was a significant difference in health perception. (${\gamma}$=0.6359 p=0.0000) \circled8 The main factors predicting health perception .are like these. \circled1 Daily activities (42.7%), highest variable. \circled2 Psychosomatic symptoms (7.29%) \circled3 Elapsed period after cardiac valve replacement surgery (1.89%) \circled4 Existence of occupation (1.87%) \circled5 Sex (1.78%) \circled6 Age (0.8%).

고등학생들의 과학사, 과학, 역사 과목에 대한 관계인식 탐색 -2015 개정 과학과 교육과정 진로선택 과목 '과학사'를 중심으로- (Exploring the High School Students' Perception of Relationships among History of Science, Science, and History: Focus on 'History of Science' in the 2015 Revised Science Curriculum)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 고등학생들의 2015 개정 과학과 교육과정 진로선택 교과목인 '과학사' 과목과 과학과 역사의 관계에 대한 인식을 탐색하는 것이다. 또한 이 연구는 실제 과학사 수업을 경험하기 이전과 이후의 이 인식의 변화를 계열별로 비교하였다. 이를 위하여 고등학생 265명이 그린 과학사와 과학, 역사와의 관계를 표현한 벤다이어그램 도형 자료를 수집하고, 이에 대한 설명 텍스트를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료들은 귀납적으로 범주화하여 최종적으로 범주화하였다. 벤다이어그램 자료를 분석한 결과 '과학과 역사의 만남으로서의 과학사', '독립영역으로서의 과학사', '역사의 일부로서의 과학사', '과학의 일부로서의 과학사', '모두를 아우르는 과학사'의 5가지의 다양한 관계범주 유형을 발견할 수 있었다. 또한 각 유형들마다 다양한 세부유형들이 존재함을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 과학사 수업 경험 이전에는 많은 학생들이 과학사를 과학 과목과 역사 과목의 교집합으로 여기는 경향을 보였다. 그러나 과목 경험 후에는 인문계 학생들과 자연계 학생들의 관계인식변화는 서로 달라졌다. 인문계 학생들의 경우에는 과학사 과목이 역사과목의 일종이라고 여기는 인식이 더 증가했고, 자연계 학생들의 경우는 과학의 일종이라고 여기는 인식이 더 증가했다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 토대로 과학사 교육이 기존에 자신이 속한 계열 내에서 익숙하게 배우는 기존의 교과들과는 다른 새로운 관점을 경험할 수 있는 과학사 교수-학습이 실현되어야 할 것임을 제언하였다.

뇌성마비 아동에게 시지각 중재가 미치는 효과에 대한 체계적 고찰 (A Systematic Review of the Effects of Visual Perception Interventions for Children With Cerebral Palsy)

  • 목적 : 본 연구는 뇌성마비 아동에게 시지각 중재를 적용한 연구들에 대해 체계적으로 고찰하여, 시지각중재의 효과에 대해 분석하고자 한다. 연구방법 : 데이터 베이스는 PubMed, EMbase, Science Direct, ProQuest, Koreanstudies Information Service System (KISS), Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), 국회도서관을 사용하였다. 키워드는 뇌성마비, 시지각, cerebral palsy, CP, visual perception을 사용하였다. PRISMA Flowchart에 따라 2012년 1월 1일부터 2022년 3월 30일까지 게재된 연구 중에서 10편을 선정하였다. 선정된 연구들의 질적 수준, 연구 대상자의 인구학적 특성, 중재의 효과, 중재의 영역과 전략, 중재의 효과를 측정하기 위한 평가도구, 비뚤림 위험에 대해 분석하였다. 결과 : 선정된 모든 연구에서 시지각 중재가 시지각 기능 증진에 효과적임을 확인하였다. 또한 시지각중재는 시지각 기능뿐만 아니라 상지기능, 일상생활활동, 자세조절, 목표달성, 심리사회 영역에서도 긍정적인 결과를 나타냈다. 눈-손 협응 영역은 모든 연구에서 중재되었다. 결론 : 시지각 중재 시 시지각 기능을 영역별로 평가하고, 개인별 체계적으로 단계화된 맞춤 중재를 적용해야 한다.

Familarity of Sounds as a Cue of Auditory Distance Perception

  • The present research examined the contribution of sounds′ familiarity to auditory distance perception, while attempting to control the influences of unavoidable physical characteristics among sounds. Different vocal "styles" ("shouts", "whispers" and "a normal conversation") of man and woman were recorded digitally and presented from a stationary loudspeaker to blindfolded listeners in a semi anechoic chamber. Playback levels were adjusted to remove extraneous sound level cues. The results showed that the shouting voice was judged as appearing farthest, the whispering voice closest, and the conversational voice was intermediate. The findings suggested that the perception of auditory distance may be affected by past experience (or familiarity).

The Effect of the Korean Wave on Malaysian University Students' Perception

  • This paper attempted to understand the university students' perception on the Korean Wave in Malaysia. Six Malaysian students were involved in this study and three research questions guided the entire study. The first question explored Malaysian university students' perception about the Korean Wave in general; the second involved how the media influences the perception of the Korean Wave; and third question looked into the economic effects that would influence students' perception of the Korean Wave. Among the six students, all of them had positive perception of the Korean Wave and were heavily influenced through the media. Thus, it can be said that it brought positive feedback to the Korean Wave. The awareness of the Korean Wave was found to be increasingly popular due to media development. This study helped understand the Korean Wave from Malaysian students' perception.

2009-2022 Thailand public perception analysis of nuclear energy on social media using deep transfer learning technique

  • Due to Thailand's nuclear energy public acceptance problem, the understanding of nuclear energy public perception was the key factor affecting to re-consideration of the nuclear energy program. Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology and its alliances together developed the classification model for the nuclear energy public perception from the big data comments on social media using Facebook using deep transfer learning. The objective was to insight into the Thailand nuclear energy public perception on Facebook social media platform using sentiment analysis. The supervised learning was used to generate up-to-date classification model with more than 80% accuracy to classify the public perception on nuclear power plant news on Facebook from 2009 to 2022. The majority of neutral sentiments (80%) represented the opportunity for Thailand to convince people to receive a better nuclear perception. Negative sentiments (14%) showed support for other alternative energies due to nuclear accident concerns while positive sentiments (6%) expressed support for innovative nuclear technologies.

디지털 교과서를 활용한 과학수업이 과학 탐구능력, 학업성취도 및 교수학습인식에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Science Process Skill, Academic Achievement and Teaching Learning Perception by Digital Text-book in Elementary Science Lesson)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of higher grades in elementary the science process skill, academic achievement and teaching learining perception by Digital Text-book in elementary science lesson. To verify research problem, the subject of this study were sixth-grade students selected from two classes of an elementary school located in Ulsan : the experimental group is composed of thirty-one students who were participated in Digital Text-book, and the other is composed of thirty students(comparison group) who were participated in teacher map based learning situation. During eight weeks, Digital Text-book instruction was executed in th experimental group while the teacher map based instruction in controled group Post-test showed following results: First, the experimental group showed a significant improvement in the science process skill compared the comparison group. Second, the experimental group did not showed a significant improvement in the Acdemic Achievement compared th the control group. Third, the experimental group showed a significant improvement in the teaching learning perception compared the comparison group. In conclusion, Digital text-book model was more effective than the teacher map based teaching model on science process skill and teaching-learning perception. However, since the study has a limit on an objet of the study and the applied curriculum, the additional studies need to be conducted with an extended comparative group and curriculum.
