  • This paper deals with metaphysical aspects of responsibility focusing on Hans Jonas's Das Prinzip Veranwortung as an attempt to further the discussion on the responsibility of scientists and engineers. After the examination on the necessity of new ethics reflecting the characteristics of contemporary science and technology, the philosophical foundation and major themes of Jonas's future-oriented ethics, i.e. responsibility ethics are analysed. Jonas argued new ethics should consider man and nature simultaneously based on the unification of being and what should be, and presented collectivity, continuity, and future-orientation as a basis of responsibility ethics. In conclusion, this paper suggests implications of Jonas's argument for science and technology ethics such as sustainability, precautionary principle, and responsibility of creator.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to remind the importance of research ethics in research and publication, and to suggest the direction of research ethics by taking examples of research ethics recently implemented by KJFHC. Research design, data and methodology: With reference to the research of existing researchers, why research ethics is important, what are the violations of research ethics, and the efforts of the editorial committee of KJFHC to strengthen research ethics are presented as an example. Results: It is a reality that the concept of research ethics is becoming more complex and important with the introduction of various new academic fields. At this point in time, researchers need to pay more attention to the easily overlooked concept of research ethics. In research ethics, the most important thing is not punishment through monitoring and supervision, but prevention activities of research ethics that can prevent research misconduct before it occurs. As a preventive activity for research ethics, it can be said that the most important is the establishment of a systematic education system and active educational activities of universities and related institutions. Conclusions: This study avoids the general status and solutions for research ethics, and explains the case of the actual academic journal KJFHC and suggests alternatives.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop science research ethics guidelines for elementary school teachers. To develop the guidelines, authors have conducted the following procedures: Development of guidelines through literature reviews; and an application of the developed guidelines to classroom sites. Authors established sections and formats of guidelines for science research ethics through literature reviews and developed contents of major sections and subsections and their explanations and descriptions. After that, authors applied the developed guidelines at elementary science classes and collected data through semi-structured interviews with science class teachers and checklists to reflect on and complement the contents of the guidelines. To secure the validity of guidelines, authors requested a validity assessment to four science education experts and one ethics education specialist. As a result, the CVI for the guidelines was found to be 0.9. Finally, authors developed the final guidelines by adding "Case Examples of Application" by adopting requests of elementary school teachers who used the provisional guidelines.
