  • This study investigated the clothing easiness of movement when wearing casual Hanbok(Saenghwal Hanbok), as a high school student uniform, and produced some recommendations for improving the Hanbok. Casual summer-uniform Hanbok produced from different types of materials were produced for this study. They were P/R, P100, P/C, and P/R/S for the blouses, with P/W, P100, P/R, and P/W/F for the skirts. Their clothing easiness of movement were then tested at $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and $50{\pm}10%$ R. H. The results were as follows: The easiness of movement for casual Hanbok was marked as $3.7l({\pm}1.03)$ on average which is higher than those of other garments, so it can be presumed that the easiness of movement for the tested clothes was quite good. The easiness of movement was lower, however, when students had their arms up front, right arms upright, arms crossed on the cheats, and bent forward whereas they were more comfortable when standing straight and sitting on a chair at 90 degrees. In terms of easiness of movement, the following ranking was revealed: waist, bust, shoulder, back, armhole, and upper arm. The easiness of movement for casual Hanbok skirts was quite good, and on average marked around $4.26({\pm}.77)$. Standing straight was the most comfortable position, when they bend forward 45 degree and 90 degree were the most uncomfortable positions. The buttocks area was also more comfortable than the waist area for casual Hanbok skirts.

  • As the cultures of the world are getting diverse and plural, many trials to find their own unique culture of their own national and racial characteristics are made where fashion and traditional culture is used as good materials; in Korea, this trend is also studied by many authors. To achieve this goal, this study recognized the importance of tourism industry by inviting hosting of international event like '2005 APEC Summit Conference and Economical Ministers' Conference', and invented a uniform design that can make identification in the world market including Korea 'Gust' and 'Emotion' in developing uniforms for employees of regular traditional restaurant or hotels that contribute to tourism industry. As a material of this study from this perspective, Soo Bok pattern among many other Korean traditional patterns were chosen, and used them to design uniforms by applying diverse expressions methods through modernization task. This study tried to suggest ideas in creating new designs with a modeling sense of our people, by emphasizing on tradition motive through analysis of conditions and problem regarding the current uniforms worn in traditional restaurants. The development of uniform that modernly reinterprets traditional patterns and design that uses tradition on modern design shows endless possibility of development of our uniform, and even shows the possibility of mixture between tradition and modernity. By applying traditional beauty not only in traditional restaurants but also in many places and businesses that foreigners frequently visit can allow to spread the excellency our culture; and the Korean uniform can be successful in the international market as Korean will have pride in our tradition by wearing this new uniform.

  • Demands and attempts to express Korean traditional beauty are increasing. Some schools choose the uniform in designs expressing the image of Hanbok, but recently there is a few increment of wearing the uniforms. For the improvement of the uniforms, first of all, the shape and the clothing materials of the uniforms should be considered. We have compared and analyzed the shape and the clothing materials of the uniforms reflecting the image of Hanbok, according to seasons and clothing items. The uniforms reflecting the image of Hanbok were worn in eight schools and all of them are Saenghwal Hanbok style. The shape of Saenghwal Hanbok school uniforms showed both Korean style and western style characteristics. Korean style characteristics were expressed through the appearance-related parts while western style characteristics showed through the performance-related parts such as open/closure method, armhole pattern and straight sleeve line. It was shown that girls' uniforms are more diverse and similar to the western style uniforms than boys' uniforms. It was found that most of the clothing material were synthetic fiber or mixture of natural/synthetic fiber, and polyester was shown to be used most.

The survey of clothing weight in fall '||'&'||' winter for 2 years, the frequency of cold infection in winter and degree of fatigue was performed with 110 female high school students. The actual condition of clothing and the correlations between clothing weight and cold infection, and between the clothing weight and degree of fatigue were suveyed. The results are followed as; 1. The clothing insulation was nearly same to indoor standard clothing insulation in H hun wearing normal clothing, but was higher 2 clo in S hun clothed uniform. Especially in spite of similar enviromental condition the clothing weight, minimum '||'&'||' maximum and variation of clothing weight for 2 years were showed to be heavier in S hun than H hun. Also indoor thermal sensation felt by the subjects indicated "cold", and the difference between clothing insulation and standard clothing insulation showed increase gradually. 2. L group was indicated to be lower in cold infaction ratio than M '||'&'||' H group, and the correlation between clothing group and cold infection ratio was recognized to be significant (p<0.05). And H hun and L-H group showed to be lower in cold infection ratio than S hun, H-L group. 3. The coefficience between clothing weight and degree of fatigue was recognized to be significant (p<0.05).

The subjects are 544 first grade girl students of general high schools in Cheong-Ju, Choong-Ju, and Je-Cheon. The analysis of the data includes frequency, percentage, average person's Correlation Program, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test. The conclusion of this study is as follows: The first, it is shown that (l)students's interest in the design and fashion of clothing is significantly related to the socio-anthropological and socio-psychological factors such and the education level of their fathers, the education level of their mothers, monthly income of their homes, the clothing habits of their home economics teachers, the subjects which they are interested in, their average scholoary achievements, their religious background, and whether they have boy friends or not, etd. (2)students' interest in purchasing of clothing is significantly related to the socio-anthropological and socio-psychological factors such as the education level of their fathers, the education level of their mothers, monthly income of their homes, the clothing habits of their home economics teachers, the subjects which they are interested in, their average scholoary achievements, and whether they have boy friends or not, etc. (3)students' interest in the social-psyclological aspect is significantly related to the socio-anthropological and socio-psychological factors such as their living area, the clothing habits of their home economics teachers, etc. (4)students' interest in the clothing construction is significantly related to only the clothing habits of their home economics teachersl. The second, as for the interest of the high school girl students in clothing, it has been shown that those who wear school uniforms tend to have more interest than those who wear free-choice clothes in such areas as shopping, the construction, and management. As for the other two areas, that is, disign and fashion, and the interest in socio-psychological dependence there has been little meaningful difference between the two groups, while the uniform group has shown more interest than the other group. The third, the interest of hish school students in clothing is considered to be most seriously influenced by their socio-psychological dependence out of five areas of interest. It has been shown that the proportion of the content dealing with clothing wearing life in the high school home economics texbooks in relatively small, especially in such areas as socio-psychological dependence, shopping, management, and design and fashion except in construcion.

  • This study is on the kindergarten uniforms in Changwon, south Gyeongsang province. The first part of this research is on whether or not students should wear uniforms and how often they should wear uniforms. The research also deals with what types of uniforms are required, how much they should cost and their size. Fifty one preschools including kindergarten and nursery were targeted for this research. The second part of the research is on the discrepancy of the labeled size and the actual size of the child. The results of the first part are as follows: A total of 46 out of 51 places adopted uniforms for their children. Sports wear style is the most popular for spring, fall and summer uniforms. For wearing frequency of kindergarten uniforms, 26 (61%) places allowed the students to wear uniforms for special events such as picnics or observation trips 17(34%) places had the students wear their uniforms on a daily basis and 2 3 times only wearing a week.'rho preschool children interviewed for this study were from 2 to 5 in lull age. However, sizes with high frequency rates were 9 to 11 and the supplied sizes of uniforms were from 5 to 17. The results of the second part are as follows: The bust girth and the shoulder width of upper garments of uniforms are bigger than children's physical size, while clothes length and sleeve length are relatively shorter. Also the bust girth of upper garments of uniforms differs in the size depending on each preschool. The waist girth and the total length of lower garments of uniforms are made smaller than children's physical sizes, while hip girth is relatively larger. In the case of lower garments, the rest parts of cloth length are smaller than upper garments of uniforms. Also, the waist girth and hip width of uniforms are smaller than those of lower garments In summer garments, while thigh width is similar in both cases. The waist width is made too small. Described in the above excluding the waist width, the rest parts are relatively larger than children's physical sizes, but shorter in the length. Due to the length, children at age 7 may wear uniforms in the level of 17. Since summer uniforms touch the students' bare skin, the rest parts excluding clothes length are shorter than these of the spring and fall uniforms. In the case of clothes length, it seems to be due to different designs. The waist width of lower garments in all the uniforms tested in this study is too small for children, requiring them to be made in a larger size.

  • This research focuses on the condition of the coveralls that automobile maintenance workers wear. The objective of this survey is to conduct a thorough analysis on the quality of the coveralls and put forth suggestions for improving their quality. The research data were collected through interviews and the results are as follows. The participants in this research engage in a variety of types of maintenance work including oil changes and overall system checks and they usually wear extra-large-sized coveralls. The coveralls are generally worn during the winter for warmth and the company handles all purchasing and maintenance of the work clothes. Participants mentioned that certain parts of the clothes where they bend and stretch are cumbersome and areas around the knees and arms become easily tainted. They have also reported that although the coveralls are necessary, they are for the most part dissatisfied when it comes to the materials, design, and color. The participants have suggested that new coveralls would help to increase their work efficiency. As a result, it is concluded that the coveralls require much more development to meet the workers' needs and improvements need to be made on the functionality, aesthetics, and symbolic aspects of the design.
