Data Acquisition using Terrestrial Laser Scanner and RTK-GPS for Implementation of Beach Model (해빈 모형 구현을 위한 지상용 레이저 스캐너와 RTK-GPS의 자료 획득)

  • Various methods have been employed for acquiring beach surface data, which are used to monitor shoreline changes due to beach erosion. This study explores the possibility of constructing and implementing a surface model of beach using data acquired with a terrestrial laser scanner and RTK-GPS. Digital images and three-dimensional data of beach areas acquired at 20 cm intervals using a laser scanner were used to create a digital surface model covered with digital image. Seven months later, the beach area was surveyed using an RTK-GPS, and another beach model was constructed using the data collected with an accuracy of 1.9 cm. The use of a terrestrial laser scanner is expected to ensure acquisition of good quality results and help deal with seasonal changes in beach areas. Because readings obtained with the RTK-GPS are dependent on the number of sampling points in beach model, difficulties are encountered when fixing the survey points. However, RTK-GPS could be used to implement a three-dimensional model by correcting the hidden parts in images obtained using a terrestrial laser scanner. Therefore, an RTK-GPS and a terrestrial laser scanner can be used in combination to obtain more precise data for the construction of beach model data.

White light scanner-based repeatability of 3-dimensional digitizing of silicon rubber abutment teeth impressions

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the repeatability of the digitizing of silicon rubber impressions of abutment teeth by using a white light scanner and compare differences in repeatability between different abutment teeth types. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Silicon rubber impressions of a canine, premolar, and molar tooth were each digitized 8 times using a white light scanner, and 3D surface models were created using the point clouds. The size of any discrepancy between each model and the corresponding reference tooth were measured, and the distribution of these values was analyzed by an inspection software (PowerInspect 2012, Delcamplc., Birmingham, UK). Absolute values of discrepancies were analyzed by the Kruskal-Wallis test and multiple comparisons (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. The discrepancy between the impressions for the canine, premolar, and molar teeth were $6.3{\mu}m$ (95% confidence interval [CI], 5.4-7.2), $6.4{\mu}m$ (95% CI, 5.3-7.6), and $8.9{\mu}m$ (95% CI, 8.2-9.5), respectively. The discrepancy of the molar tooth impression was significantly higher than that of other tooth types. The largest variation (as mean [SD]) in discrepancies was seen in the premolar tooth impression scans: $26.7{\mu}m$ (95% CI, 19.7-33.8); followed by canine and molar teeth impressions, $16.3{\mu}m$ (95% CI, 15.3- 17.3), and $14.0{\mu}m$ (95% CI, 12.3-15.7), respectively. CONCLUSION. The repeatability of the digitizing abutment teeth's silicon rubber impressions by using a white light scanner was improved compared to that with a laser scanner, showing only a low mean discrepancy between $6.3{\mu}m$ and $8.9{\mu}m$, which was in an clinically acceptable range. Premolar impression with a long and narrow shape showed a significantly larger discrepancy than canine and molar impressions. Further work is needed to increase the digitizing performance of the white light scanner for deep and slender impressions.

  • We must precisely investigate the mechanical characters of rock to design rock slope safely and efficiently. But the method of clinometer has some disadvantages. So, we need a new measurement that can replace the method of clinometer. In this study, we analyze the reliability of joint orientation measurements in rock slope using the 3D laser scanner and program Split-FX that is a point cloud data analysis software. We could acquire the 495 pieces joint data through the automatic extraction of features. And we confirmed that there were some errors occurred with ${\pm}4^{\circ}$ of dip and ${\pm}5^{\circ}$ of dip direction. Generally, the method of clinometer has ${\pm}5^{\circ}$ and ${\pm}10^{\circ}$ error ranges of the joint orientation(dip/dip direction) that are the results of the advance research. Therefore, we analyzed the method of 3D laser scanner, and it is found to be efficient, reliable. This method is expected to mend the disadvantages of Clinometer method.

The Developement of Small 360° Oral Scanner Lens Module (소형 360° 구강 스캐너 렌즈 모듈 개발)

  • In this paper, we propose the development of a small $360^{\circ}$ oral scanner lens module. The proposed small $360^{\circ}$ oral scanner lens module consists of a small $360^{\circ}$ high resolution(4MegaPixel) lens optical system, a 15mm image sensor unit, and a small $360^{\circ}$ mouth scanner lens external shape. A small $360^{\circ}$ high resolution lens optical system produces a total of nine lenses, the outer diameter of the lens not less than 15mm for use by children through the ages of adulthood. Light drawn by a small $360^{\circ}$ high resolution lens optical system is $90^{\circ}$ flexion so that image images are delivered to image sensors. The 15mm image sensor unit sends the converted value to the ISP(Image Signal Processor) of the embedded board after an image array through the column and the row address of the image sensor. The small $360^{\circ}$ mouth scanner lens outer shape was designed to fix the race to the developed lens. Results from authorized testing agencies to assess the performance of proposed small $360^{\circ}$ oral scanner lens modules, The optical resolving power of $360^{\circ}$ lens was more than 30% at 150 cycles/mm, $360^{\circ}$ lens angle was $360^{\circ}$ in vertical direction, $42^{\circ}{\sim}85^{\circ}$ in vertical direction, and lens distortion rate was 5% or less. It produced the same result as the world's highest level.

Analysis of Relationship Between Injection Dose and Exposure Dose in PET/CT Scan: Initial Study (PET/CT에서 방사성 의약품 주입량이 방사선 피폭에 미치는 영향분석: 초기연구)

  • The $^{18}F$-FDG is one of the widely used isotopes for PET/CT scans. Dose amount injected to the patient depends on the characteristics of PET/CT systems. Obviously, the technologists who contact with patients would be exposed as well. In this study, we evaluated the exposed dose of the technologist who works on the PET/CT scanner. The exposed dose were measured every month with the TLDs from 6 technologists. Each technologist is shift-worker who manages 3 different PET/CT systems(Scanner 1(S1): 0.15 mCi/kg, Scanner 2(S2): 0.17 mCi/kg, Scanner 3(S3): 0.12 mCi/kg). The average exposed doses of technologists for each PET/CT system were measured as 0.76 mSv for S1, 0.93 mSv for S2 and 0.47 mSv for S3. The maximum dose was 1.12 mSv and minimum was 0.42 mSv. The results showed that there was a correlation between exposed dose and PET/CT system(p<0.005). Less injected dose for patient occurs less exposed dose for technologist. Various studies for the low dose PET/CT system are required for not only the patient but also the technologist.

  • A 3D scanner scans and captures the shape of a real-world object. The captured shape can be used to construct three-dimensional model for CAD/CAM applications. In this study we have tried to design a cell phone cover by using the 3D scanner and reverse engineering. A 3D scanner is used to capture the shape of a cell phone. The 3D scanner generates a point cloud as the shape information. A three-dimensional CAD model for the cell phone is constructed from the point cloud. A cell phone cover is designed based on the CAD model of the cell phone. To check the integrity of this design process a prototype of the cover is made and assembled with the cell phone.

  • Remote laser beam welding (RLW) has the benefits of high speed and high quality welding, especially as applied to automotive industry. RLW is designed in a way that end effecter and head of scanner move simultaneously, and require the compensation for the motion of end effecter in order to weld proper position. In this paper, we show the algorithms of RLW that enable the end effecter to synchronize with scanner based on time. The proposed method consists of two algorithms. These algorithms make it possible for the moving end effecter to weld on desired place. The effectiveness of the algorithms is shown by experiments.

  • This paper presents a method to analyze the unbalance response of a high speed polygon mirror scanner motor supported by sintered metal bearing and flexible structures by using the finite element method and the mode superposition method considering the asymmetry of the gyroscopic effect and sintered metal bearing. The eigenvalues and eigenvectors are calculated by solving the eigenvalue problem and the adjoint eigenvalue problem by using the restarted Arnoldi iteration method. The decoupled equations of motion can be obtained from global finite element motion equations by using the orthogonal relation between the right eigenvectors and left eigenvectors. The decoupled equations of motion are used to analyze the unbalance response of a high speed polygon mirror scanner motor. The validity of the proposed method is verified by comparing the simulated unbalance response with the experimental results.

  • When the capacity of underground caverns' structures is measured, a general surveying is difficult to decide an accurate section of irregular shape and a photographic surveying has problems on picture acquisition due to underground dusts, noise and lighting conditions, etc. The laser scanner system is being much used for 3-dimensional modeling such as topography, planimetric features and structures, etc. without a target by measuring arriving time of a laser pulse reflected after scanning the laser pulse and calculating space coordinates of the reflection position. Accordingly, the present research carried out section and earthwork volume measurement of a tunnel by using a laser scanner in underground anchorage excavation work that a bridge construction is being executed.

A study on Improvement for distorted images of the Digital X-ray Scanner System based on Fuzzy Correction Algorithm

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy correction algorithm that can correct the distorted medical image caused by the scanning nonlinear velocity of the Digital X-ray Scanner System (DX-Scanner) using the Multichannel Ionization Chamber (MIC). In the DX-Scanner, the scanned medical image is distorted for reasons of unsuitable integration time at the nonlinear acceleration period of the AC servo motor during the inspection of patients. The proposed algorithm finds the nonlinear motor velocity modeling through fuzzy system by clustering and reconstructs the normal medical image lines by calculating the suitable moving distance with the velocity of the motor using the modeling, acceleration time and integration time. In addition, several image processing is included in the algorithm. This algorithm analyzes exact pixel lines by comparing the distance of the acceleration period with the distance of the uniform velocity period in every integration time and is able to compensate for the velocity of the acceleration period. By applying the proposed algorithm to the test pattern for checking the image resolution, the effectiveness of this algorithm is verified. The corrected image obtained from distorted image is similar to the normal and better image for a doctor's diagnosis.
