  • A significant number of all reported accidents in Korea involved education and training Based on the Labor Ministry data, statistics, show the education cause was directly involved in 38% of major accidents, Since safety managers have in charge of safety education at the factory, occupational safety curriculum must be studied to train safety manager effectively. In this study an analysis on relative importance of industrial safety curriculum for a good safety manager was performed by Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) The results showed that relative importance of industrial safety curriculum by AHP was safety management(w=0.240) ergonomics and system safety(w=0.201) construction safety(w=0.182) mechanic safety(w=0.139) electronic safety(w=0.134) and chemical safety(w=0.104) in order. The results could be used for industrial safety curriculum planning in university and safety organization such as Korea Occupational safety and Health Agency.

  • This paper tried to apply psychosocial factors in industrial safety research. Since Zohar's(1980) publication of safety climate in the field of safety research, this approach have been done by many researchers. Here, this paper reviewed the relationship between safety climate factors(safety rule, prevention, superior attitude, social support) and safety compliance, and the moderating effects of work condition, required skill and age. Based on the responses from 233 employees in Kangwon province industry, hierarchical regressional analysis showed that all safety climate factors(safety rule, prevention, superior attitude, social support) have positive relationship with safety compliance. Safety rule appeared to be more positively related with safety compliance, while work condition is more favorable and worker is older. But social support appeared to be more positively with safety compliance, while work condition is more unfavorable, and also prevention appeared to be more positively with safety compliance, while worker is more younger.

  • Considering that extant studies on safety behavior have paid insufficient attention to the impact of corporate social responsibility(CSR) on employee's safety behavior. This paper delves into the influence of CSR on safety behavior and its intermediating mechanism such as mediator and moderator. To be specific, the current paper examines the mediating effect of employee's psychological safety in the CSR-safety behavior link, also investigating the moderating effect of ethical leadership in the relationship between CSR and psychological safety. As expected in the hypotheses, the results showed that that CSR has a positive (+) influence on psychological safety, which has a positive (+) impact on safety behavior. Also, employee's psychological safety mediated the association between CSR and safety behavior. Lastly, ethical leadership moderated the CSR-psychological safety link.

  • This paper reviews the literature on safety culture focusing particularly on research carried out from 1998 onwards. The term 'safety culture' is clarified as it is typically applied to organizations, to safety and particularly to construction safety. Some clarifications in terms of levels of aggregation, positive safety culture and safety performance are provided by presenting appropriate empirical evidences and their theoretical developments. Safety culture is a subset of organizational culture that is thought to influence employees' attitudes and behavior in relation to an organization's ongoing health and safety performance. Implications for future research in the area are addressed, as safety culture has in recent years become the focus of much attention in all industries, and in the construction industry in particular.

It is desirable to proceed control of safety in the whole parts of the construction to introduce the total safety coordinator that can consult the matters of safety as a law accepted in EU. c. Like management of the construction safety in USA, direction of the construction safety must be made to work exactly by code or manual. d. To improve the organization of the construction safety on the construction field unefficient, it must be introduced safety supervisor, safety coordinator or institutionalization of safety consultant. 2. The law of the construction safety not only have wasteful element but also decrease efficiency by overlapping of regulation, The Ministry of Labour and The Ministry of Construction & Transportation, So laws related with safety must be instituted. a. To realize total safety management, The Ministry of Labour must legislate the basic law about safety management in whole field. b. To legislate the construction safety under one law, and improve efficiency of the overlapping of regulation and the similar law by The Ministry of Construction & Transportation. c. It must be made the law of construction safety that can proper to change of situation in construction. d. The standard of safety must be instituted belong to international level and improved by year. e. We must improve irrational regulation to realize activity of safety self regulating for progress competition in construction industry

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate systematic and comprehensive explanation about safety behavior by applying integrated model of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Social Cognitive Theory (SCT). By showing the interrelationship of effects of factors affecting safety behavior in a single model, comprehensive understanding regarding safety behavior will be possible. Research design, data, and methodology: This study try to integrate the two theory, TPB and SCT, to introduce background factors, such as safety culture, affecting cognitive factors of subjective norm, safety attitude, perceived behavioral control, safety consciousness, which are again affecting behavior intention of the TPB. We composed 73 questionnaire to analyse the relationship among factors affecting safety behavior. The questionnaire were distributed to stewards and stewardesses of KAL, ASIANA, and LCCs. 422 were collected and used for analysis. Factor analysis, regression analysis, and control effect analysis were conducted using SPSS windows version 2.0. Results: The safety culture, safety atmosphere, and safety education/training were turned out to affect subjective norm, safety attitude, perceived behavioral control, safety consciousness. And the cognitive factors also showed to affect safety intention significantly. The results that safety intention affects safety behavior was found. Also there are control effect of cost consciousness and punishment while safety intention affects safety behavior. Conclusions: Safety is the virtue that should be given first priority to in our daily life. To secure safety, everyone in an organization should have high level of safety intention and conduct safety behavior. The study results provide systematic and comprehensive understandings on the relationship among factors affecting cabin crews' safety behavior. The results will help design safety related regulations, education/training, and support employees to engage in safety behavior related activities.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the current status of school safety education and the differences in knowledge and practice of middle school students. Methods: A structured questionnaire was distributed to 418 middle school students in J province. The questionnaires consisted of 35 questions on the status of school safety education as well as the four school safety education domains of first aid, disaster safety, traffic safety, and daily life. Data were analyzed using frequency analysis, cross-tabulation analysis, a t-test, analysis of variance, and Pearson's correlations. Results: Awareness regarding the top seven standards for school safety and interest in school safety education were both relatively low. Among all the different kinds of safety accidents, those related to school violence(33.8%) and life safety(24.9%) were experienced the most in school. A more pleasant school life and better peer relationships led to interest in school safety(p=.000)(p=.000), awareness regarding the top seven standards for school safety(p=.022)(p=.009), adoption of coping measures(p=.000)(p=.000), and practice(p=.000)(p=.000) in case of safety accidents(p=.000)(p=.000). Conclusion: To increase awareness regarding the seven standards for school safety education and raise interest in safety education, it is necessary to cultivate experts and actively utilize them and to prepare systematic and continuous school safety education programs.

  • This study includes definitions and major issues relating to product safety, and reviews about product safety laws of Korea and of other countries. In addition, this study suggests several ideas for a future governmental policy concerning product safety and the government policies to guide in securing consumers' safety of products. First, we need to set up consumer safety policies and laws dealing with complex consumer safety issues and to integrate existing laws for the safety of products. Second, opening a consumer safety agency and training workers who have relation to the safety policy, as a profession, are necessary. Third, it is required to redefine the product safety guidelines, strengthen the safety policy and to minimize safety regulations by the government directly. Fourth, each product of the safety management policies must be regularly evaluated and given feedback for improving its effectiveness. Fifth, information gathering, disclosing, and having a feedback system related to product safety should be rebuilt for the effective management of unsafe products. In addition, laws and the aims of product safety management being changed to focus on the consumers, control on imported products, collaboration with network and mutual-assistance systems of product safety-related agencies including international organizations and major countries and taking leading roles in the world are essential.
