An efficient solution method for harmonic balance techniques with Fourier transform is presented for periodic unsteady flow problems. The present partially-implicit harmonic balance treats the flux terms implicitly and the harmonic source term is solved explicitly. The convergence of the partially Implicit method is much faster than the explicit Runge-Kutta harmonic balance method. The method does not need to compute the additional flux Jacobian matrix from the implicit harmonic source term. Compared with fully implicit harmonic balance method, this partial approach turns out to have good convergence property. Oscillating flows over NACA0012 airfoil are considered to verify the method and to compare with results of explicit R-K(Runge-Kutta) and dual time stepping methods.
In this paper, numerical methods are developed for solving the elastica of simple beams with variable-arc-length subjected to a point loading. The beam model is based on Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. The Runge-Kutta and Regula-Falsi methods, respectively, are used to solve the governing differential equations and to compute the beam's rotation at the left end of the beams. Extensive numerical results of the elastica responses, including deflected shapes, rotations of cross-section and bending moments, are presented in non-dimensional forms. The possible maximum values of the end rotation, deflection and bending moment are determined by analyzing the numerical data obtained in this study.

This paper aims to assess the applicability of the Runge Kutta Discontinuous Galerkin-Direct Ghost Fluid Method to the internal explosion inside a water-filled tube, which previously was studied by many researchers in separate works. Once the explosive charge located at the inner center of the water-filled tube explodes, the tube wall is subjected to an extremely high intensity fluid loading and deformed. The deformation causes a modification of the field of fluid flow in the region near the water-structure interface so that has substantial influence on the response of the structure. To connect the structure and the fluid, valid data exchanges along the interface are essential. Classical fluid structure interaction simulations usually employ a matched meshing scheme which discretizes the fluid and structure domains using a single mesh density. The computational cost of fluid structure interaction simulations is usually governed by the structure because the size of time step may be determined by the density of structure mesh. The finer mesh density, the better solution, but more expensive computational cost. To reduce such computational cost, a non-matched meshing scheme which allows for different mesh densities is employed. The coupled numerical approach of this paper has fewer difficulties in the implementation and computation, compared to gas dynamics based approach which requires complicated analytical manipulations. It can also be applied to wider compressible, inviscid fluid flow analyses often found in underwater explosion events.

Numerical methods are developed for solving the elastica and buckling load of tapered columns with shear deformation, subjected to a compressive end load. The linear, parabolic and sinusoidal tapers with the regular polygon cross-sections are considered, whose material volume and span length are always held constant. The differential equations governing the elastica of buckled column are derived. The Runge-Kutta method is used to integrate the differential equations, and the Regula-Falsi method is used to determine the rotation at left end and the buckling load, respectively. The numerical methods developed herein for computing the elastica and the buckling loads of the columns are found to be efficient and reliable.

This paper deals with the strongest beams with the solid regular polygon cross-section, whose volumes are always held constant. The differential equation of the elastic deflection curve of such beam subjected to the concentrated and trapezoidal distributed loads are derived and solved numerically. The Runge-Kutta method and shooting method are used to integrate the differential equation and to determine the unknown initial boundary condition of the given beam. In the numerical examples, the simple beams are considered as the end constraint and also, the linear, parabolic and sinusoidal tapers are considered as the shape function of cross sectional depth. As the numerical results, the configurations, i.e. section ratios, of the strongest beams are determined by reading the section ratios from the numerical data related with the static behaviors, under which static maximum behaviors become to be minimum.
Dynamic responses of a simply supported beam with a translational spring carrying a moving mass are studied. Governing equations of motion including all the inertia effects of a moving mass are derived by employing the Galerkin's mode summation method, and solved by using the Runge-Kutta integral method. Numerical solutions for dynamic responses of a beam are obtained for various cases by changing parameters of the spring stiffness, the spring position, the mass ratio and the velocity ratio of a moving mass. Some experiments are conducted to verify the numerical results obtained. Experimental results for the dynamic responses of the test beam have a good agreement with numerical ones.
In this paper Hamiltonian Approach (HA) have been used to analysis the nonlinear free vibration of Simply-Supported (S-S) and for the Clamped-Clamped (C-C) Euler-Bernoulli beams fixed at one end subjected to the axial loads. First we used Galerkin's method to obtain an ordinary differential equation from the governing nonlinear partial differential equation. The effect of different parameter such as variation of amplitude to the obtained on the non-linear frequency is considered. Comparison of HA with Runge-Kutta 4th leads to highly accurate solutions. It is predicted that Hamiltonian Approach can be applied easily for nonlinear problems in engineering.
This paper proposes a new approximate analytical solution for highly nonlinear vibration of mechanical systems called Hamiltonian Approach (HA) that can be widely use for structural health monitoring systems. The complete procedure of the HA approach is studied, and the precise application of the presented approach is surveyed by two familiar nonlinear partial differential problems. The nonlinear frequency of the considered systems is obtained. The results of the HA are verified with the numerical solution using Runge-Kutta's [RK] algorithm. It is established the only one iteration of the HA leads us to the high accurateness of the solution.

In this paper, nonlinear vibration of Euler-Bernoulli beams resting on linear elastic foundation is studied. It has been tried to prepare a semi-analytical solution for whole domain of vibration. Only one iteration lead us to high accurate solution. The effects of linear elastic foundation on the response of the beam vibration are considered and studied. The effects of important parameters on the ratio of nonlinear to linear frequency of the system are studied. The results are compared with numerical solution using Runge-Kutta $4^{th}$ technique. It has been shown that the Max-Min approach can be easily extended in nonlinear partial differential equations.

Three dimensional structures of detonation wave propagating through a square-shaped duct were investigated using computational method and parallel processing. Inviscid fluid dynamics equations coupled with $variable-{\gamma}$ formulation and simplified one-step Arrhenius chemical reaction model were analysed by MUSCL-type TVD scheme and four stage Runge-Kutta time integration. The unsteady computational results in three dimension show the detailed mechanism of transverse mode and diagonal mode of detonation wave instabilities resulting same cell length but different cell width in smoked-foil record.
