  • The sway motion control problem of a container hanging on the trolly is considered in the paper. In the container crane control problem, suppressing the residual swing motion of the container at the end of acceleration, deceleration or the case of that the unexpected disturbance input exists is main issue. For this problem, in general, many trolley motion control strategies are introduced and applied. In this paper, we introduce and synthesize a swing motion control system in which a small auxiliary mass is installed on the spreader made by ourselves. In this control system, the actuator reacting against the auxiliary mass applies inertial control forces to the container to reduce the swing motion in the desired manner. Especially, we apply the $H_{\infty}$ based gain-scheduling control technique the anti-sway control system design problem of the controlled plant. In this control system, the controller dynamics are adjusted in real-time according to time-varying plant parameters. And the experiment result shows that the proposed control strategy is shown to be useful to the case of time-varying system and, robust to disturbances like winds and initial sway motion.

  • This paper describes a design method of compensators for decentralized control systems. Decentralized control problem is convenient to design multi-variable control systems and formulated as a series of independent designs. The proposed design method is composed of some steps, which is sequentially to close loop of the system diagonalized by regarding interactive subsystem as perturbation for current loop. So, on the basis of H$_{\infty}$ control theory, decentralized controllers are designed considering robust stability for diagonal systems with perturbations. A numerical example shows that the proposed design method is effective for multivariable control systems..

  • This paper studies on an active noise control to reduce noise sound level in a small cavity. Ideally, high gain control solves this problem, but, in practice, there exist nonlinear characteristics and modelling errors of the small cavity, which make the control more complicated. H$_{\infty}$ control can be used in an uncertain system after determining uncertain boundary and solved algebraically or numerically. In this paper, the numerical one, LMI(Linear Matrix Inequality), is used to get controller. Finally, experiment result shows the performance of the controller..

  • In ship operation, the roll motions can seriously degrade the performance of mechanical and personnel effectiveness. So many studies for the roll stabilization system design have been performed and good results have been achieved. In many studies, the stabilizing fins are used. Recently rudders, which have been extensively modified, have been used exclusively to stabilize the roll. But, in the roll stabilization control system, the control performance is very sensitive to the ship speed. So, we can see that it is important to consider the ship speed in the rudder roll control system design. The gain-scheduling control technique is very useful in the control problem incorporating time varying parameters which can be measured in real time. Based on this fact, in this paper we examine the;$H_{\infty}$-Gain Scheduling control design technique. Therefore, we assume that a parameter, the ship speed which can be estimated in real time, is varying and apply the gain-scheduling control technique to design the course keeping and anti-rolling control system far a ship. In this control system, the controller dynamics is adjusted in real-time according to time-varying plant parameters. The simulation result shows that the proposed control strategy is shown to be useful for cases when the ship speed is varying and robust to disturbances like wind and wave.

  • In general, lateral ride comfort of railway vehicle is mainly influenced by a secondary suspension placed between the bogie and carbody. Higher operating speeds of train results in increased vibration of carbody, which has a negative impact related to the ride comfort. To solve this problem, researches to replace the conventional passive suspension with (semi)active technology in the secondary suspension of a railway vehicle have been carried out. The semi-active suspension using the magneto-rheological damper is relatively simpler system and has advantage in maintenance compared to the hydraulic type semi-active damper. This study was performed to reduce lateral vibration acceleration of carbody related to ride comfort of railway vehicles with a semi-active suspension system. The numerical analysis was conducted by replacing passive lateral damper with semi-active MR damper, and robust control with the MR damper was applied to the 1/5 scaled railway vehicle model.

  • Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) is one of most effective methods of robust controller design and can be considered as a suitable method for systems with parametric uncertainties. Particularly it allows us to obtain controllers less conservative than other methods like $H_{\infty}$ and ${\mu}$-synthesis. In QFT method, we transform all the uncertainties and desired specifications to some boundaries in Nichols chart and then we have to find the nominal loop transfer function such that satisfies the boundaries and has the minimum high frequency gain. The major drawback of the QFT method is that there is no effective and useful method for finding this nominal loop transfer function. The usual approach to this problem involves loop-shaping in the Nichols chart by manipulating the poles and zeros of the nominal loop transfer function. This process now aided by recently developed computer aided design tools proceeds by trial and error and its success often depends heavily on the experience of the loop-shaper. Thus for the novice and First time QFT user, there is a genuine need for an automatic loop-shaping tool to generate a first-cut solution. In this paper, we approach the automatic QFT loop-shaping problem by using an algorithm involving Linear Programming (LP) techniques and Genetic Algorithm (GA).

  • In this paper, we investigate a set-membership identification approach to the quantification of an upper bound of model uncertainty in frequency domain, which is required in the H$_{\infty}$ robust control system design. First we formulate this problem as a set-membership identification of a nominal model error in the presence f unknown noise input with unknown bound, while the ordinary set-membership approaches assume that an upper bound of the uncertain input is known. For this purpose, the proposed algorithm includes the estimation of the bound of the uncertain input. thus the proposed method can obtain the hard bound of the model error in frequency domain as well as a parametric lower-order nominal model. Finally numerical simulation results are shown to confirm the validity of the presented algorithm..

  • Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) is one of effective methods of robust controller design. In QFT design we can considers the phase information of the perturbed plant so it is less conservative than $H_{\infty}$ and ${\mu}$-synthesis methods and as be shown, it is more transparent than the sensitivity reduction methods mentioned . In this paper we want to overcome the major drawback of QFT method which is lack of an automatic method for loop-shaping step of the method so we focus on the following problem: Given a nominal plant and QFT bounds, synthesize a controller that achieves closed-loop stability and satisfies the QFT boundaries. The usual approach to this problem involves loop-shaping in the frequency domain by manipulating the poles and zeros of the nominal loop transfer function. This process now aided by recently developed computer aided design tools proceeds by trial and error and its success often depends heavily on the experience of the loop-shaper. Thus for the novice and First time QFT user, there is a genuine need for an automatic loop-shaping tool to generate a first-cut solution. Clearly such an automatic process must involve some sort of optimization, and while recent results on convex optimization have found fruitful applications in other areas of control theory we have tried to use LMI theory for automating the loop-shaping step of QFT design.
