The Anisotropy of the London Penetration Depth and the Upper Critical Field in C-doped $MgB_2$ Single Crystals from Reversible Magnetization

  • We have studied the anisotropy of the London penetration depth of carbon doped $MgB_2$ single crystals, which was obtained from reversible magnetization measurements with the magnetic field both parallel and perpendicular to the c-axis. Similar to the pure $MgB_2$, the anisotropy of the upper critical field ${\gamma}_H$ decrease with temperature while the anisotropy of the London penetration depth ${\gamma}_{\lambda}$ slowly increases with temperature. However, the temperature dependence of ${\gamma}_H$ is drastically reduced and the value of ${\gamma}_{\lambda}$ becomes nearly ~1 as C is introduced. These results indicate that C substitution increases impurity scattering mainly in the $\sigma$ bands. The temperature dependence of the anisotropies agree well with the theoretical predictions with impurity scattering.

Degradation Evaluation of Mechanical Property for Modified 9Cr-1Mo Steel by Reversible Permeability

  • The present work studies a nondestructive evaluation of the degradation of modified 9Cr-1Mo steel using a magnetic method based on the existence of the peaks of reversible permeability (RP) in the differential magnetization around the coercive force. The apparatus is based on detection of the voltage induced in a coil using a lock-in amplifier tuned to the frequency of the AC perturbing field. Results obtained for the reversible permeability and Vickers hardness on the aged samples showed the peak interval of reversible permeability (PIRP) and Vickers hardness decrease as aging time increased. The correlation between Vickes hardness and the PIRP could be used to evaluate degradation of modified 9Cr-1Mo steel.

  • We have studied superconducting parameters of $MgB_2$ single crystals from reversible magnetization measurements with the magnetic field both parallel and perpendicular to the c-axis of the crystals. The temperature dependence of the London penetration depth, ${\lambda}_{ab}{^{-2}}(T)$, obtained from the Hao-Clem analysis on reversible magnetization, shows a clear discrepancy from single-band theories. It is also found that the anisotropies of the London penetration depth, ${\gamma}_{\lambda}$, slowly increases with temperature while the anisotropy of the upper critical field, ${\gamma}_H$, decreases with temperature. These behaviors are in sharp contrast with the behavior of superconductors with a single band. The temperature dependence of ${\lambda}_{ab}{^{-2}}$, and the opposite temperature dependences of ${\gamma}_{\lambda}\;and\;{\gamma}_H$ can be well explained with the theory of the two-band superconductivity.

  • We report the magnetic-field dependence of the irreversible magnetization of binary superconductor $MgB_2$. For the temperature region of $T\;<\;0.9T_c$, the contribution of the bulk pinning to the magnetization overwhelms that of the surface pinning. This was evident from the fact that the magnetization curves, M(H), were well described by the critical-state model without considering the reversible magnetization and the surface pinning effect. It was also found that the M(H) curves at various temperatures scaled when the field and the magnetization were normalized by the characteristic caling factors H$\ast$(T) and M$\ast$(T), respectively. This feature suggests that the pinning mechanism determining the hysteresis in M(H) is unique below $T\;=\;T_c$.

  • We present a new procedure to evaluate the residual life of 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel from reversible magnetic permeability. The method is based on the existence of first harmonics in the differential magnetization around the coercive force. The apparatus is based on the detection of the voltage induced in a coil using a lock-in amplifier tuned to the frequency of the exciting coil. Results obtained for the first harmonics and Vickers hardness on aged samples show that the peak interval of reversible permeability and Vickers hardness decrease as aging time increases. The correlation between Vickers hardness and the peak interval of the reversible permeability may be used to evaluate the residual life of 1Cr-lMo-0.25V steel, nondestructively.

The method is based on the existence of the peak of reversible permeability in the differential magnetization around the coercive field strength. The apparatus is based on the detection of the voltage induced in a surface type coil using a lock-in amplifier tuned to a frequency to the exciting one. Results obtained the reversible permeability and Vickers hardness on the annealed samples show the peak interval of reversible permeability and Vickers hardness decreased as ageing time increased. The correlation between Vickers hardness and the peak interval of reversible permeability could well be evaluated non destructively.

CoB/Ru/CoB 박막 재료의 자화 거동 특성 분석 (Magnetization Behavior of CoB/Ru/CoB Thin Film)

  • 자성-금속-자성 삼층구조로 반강자성 결합 특성을 갖는 박막 재료의 자화 곡선은 두 자성박막 각각의 자화량($M_1$, $M_2$) 변화 특성을 반영한다. 본 연구에서는 반강자성 결합 특성을 갖는 CoB/Ru/CoB 박막 재료의 두 자성 박막의 총자화량($M_{tot}=M_1+M_2$)과 상부 단일 박막의 자화량($M_1$)의 이론적 값을 Stoner-Wohlfarth 모델로 계산하였다. VSM으로 측정한 총자화량은 자기장의 반전에 따라 가역 특성을 보였으며, CoB/Ru/CoB 재료의 플롭자기장($H_F$)은 약 50 Oe였다. 한편 MOKE로 측정한 상부 단일 박막의 자화량($M_1$)은 $-H_F$ < H < $H_F$에서 비가역 자화 반전 특성을 보였다. 이러한 자화 거동 특성은 두 자성 박막에 서로 상호 작용하는 반강자성 결합에 의하여 두 자성 박막 각각의 자화 각도 변화에 기인함을 Stoner-Wohlfarth 모델 계산을 통하여 확인하였다.

Magnetic Force Microscopy (MFM) Study of Remagnetization Effects in Patterned Ferromagnetic Nanodots

  • Periodic magnetic nanodot arrays were successfully produced on glass substrates by interference laser lithography and electron beam lithography methods. Magnetic force microscopy (MFM) observation was carried out on fabricated nanodot arrays. MFM tip induced magnetization effects were clearly observed in ferromagnetic elliptical nanodots varying in material and aspect ratio. Fe-Cr dots with a high aspect ratio show reversible switching of the single domain magnetization state. At the same time, Co nanomagnets with a low aspect ratio exhibit tip induced transitions between the single domain and the vortex state of magnetization. The simple nanolithography is potentially an efficient method for fabrication of patterned magnetic arrays.

  • 고온, 고압에서 운용되고 있는 설비의 안전성을 평가하기 위해서는 사용시간 동안 열화된 물성을 정기적으로 점검하여 설비의 잔여수명을 평가해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 교류 섭동 자기장을 인가하여 구한 가역투자율 값을 이용하여 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V 강의 잔여수명을 평가하기 위한 자기적 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 이 방법은 자기이력곡선의 미분값인 가역투자율이 보자력에서 첨두 값을 갖는 특성을 이용하였으며, 측정원리는 교류 섭동 자기장의 주파수에 동조된 록-인 증폭기를 사용하여 탐지코일에 유도된 제 1 고조파의 전압을 측정하는 것이다. 가역투자율의 첨두값 간격 (peak interval of reversible magnetic permeability: PIRMP)과 비커스 경도는 열화가 진행됨에 따라 감소하였다 따라서 비커스 경도와 PIRMP상관관계에 의해 연화곡선을 구할 수 있고, 이 연화곡선에 의해 터빈로터 강의 잔여수명을 평가할 수 있다.
