Developing and Evaluating an Ontology-based Legal Retrieval System (온톨로지 기반 법률 검색시스템의 구축 및 평가에 관한 연구)

  • The law affects our daily lives, and hence, constitutes a crucial information resource. However, electronic access to legal information using keyword-based retrieval systems appears to provide users with limited satisfaction. There are many factors behind this inadequacy. First, the discrepancies between formal legal terms and their counterparts in common language are quite large. Second, the situation is further confounded by frequent abbreviations in legal terms. Third, even though there is a constant deluge of legal information, users' needs have evolved to demand more Q and A type searches. All of these factors make the existing retrieval systems inefficient and ineffective. This article suggests an ontology-based system as a means to deal with such difficulties. To that end, a legal retrieval system(experimental system), built on the basis of a newly-constructed law ontology, was tested against a keyword-based legal retrieval system(existing one), yielding data on their relative effectiveness in retrieval and user satisfaction.

A Study on the Retrieval Speed Improvement from Content-Based Music Information Retrieval System (내용기반 음악 검색 시스템에서의 검색 속도 향상에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose the content-based music information retrieval system with improved retrieval speed and stable performance while maintaining resonable retrieval accuracy In order to solve the in-stable system problem multi-feature clustering (MFC) is used to setup robust music DB. In addition, the music retrieval speed was improved by using the Superclass concept. Effectiveness of the system with SuperClass and without SuperClass is compared in terms of retrieval speed, accuracy and retrieval precision. It is demonstrated that the use of WC and Superclass substantially improves music retrieval speed up to $20\%\~40\%$ while maintaining almost equal retrieval accuracy.

  • This study examined the extent to which variations in relevance assessments affect the evaluation of the performance of full-text retrieval system. Four sets of relevance judgments obtained by examining the full-text of documents were used to test the retrieval effectiveness. There was no noticeable difference in retrieval performance among the four relevance judgment sets. It implies that a variety of definitions of relevance has no effect on the evaluation of the performance of the full-text retrieval system. Furth r retrieval experiments on this topic incorporating relevance feedback, which is one of the sophisticated retrieval techniques using relevance information, are suggested.

  • The conventional fuzzy set model has been criticized as a retrieval model because the MIN and MAX operators have the properties adverse to effective calculation of document values. Since the first introduction of fuzzy set theory a variety of fuzzy operators have been developed, which can replace the MIN and MAX operators. We analyze their behavioral aspects of generating document values, and propose the enhanced fuzzy set model based on a class of fuzzy operators called positively compensatory operators. We also show through performance experiments that the proposed fuzzy set model provides higher retrieval effectiveness.

  • In this paper, we suggest an information retrieval visualization tool using the knowledge representation method. Information retrieval visualization tool suggested in this paper is designed to automatically extract retrieval intention using user's search history data and visualize extracted retrieval intention in the knowledge representation method structure. A psychological knowledge representation methodology was adopted for schema for retrieval intention representation and its effectiveness has been proved through the behavioral experiments. Result of experiment revealed that information retrieval visualization tool has been improved approximately 39% in user satisfaction compared to existing retrieval method, suggesting a measure to solve re-retrieval problem in the process of information retrieval.

  • Cross-lingual text retrieval(CLTR) is the information retrieval in which a user tries to search a set of documents written in one language for a query another language. This thesis proposes a CLTR system based on fuzzy multilingual thesaurus to handle a partial matching between terms of two different languages. The proposed CLTR system uses a fuzzy term matrix defined in our thesis to perform the information retrieval effectively. In the defined fuzzy term matrix, all relation degrees between terms are inferred from using the transitive closure algorithm to reflect all implicit links between terms into processing of the information retrieval. With this framework, the CLTR system proposed in our thesis enhances the retrieval effectiveness because it is able to emulate a human expert's decision making well in CLTR.

  • Conventional database retrieval system have problems of being able to select data out of database only if the data exactly equal to retrieval conditions offered by users. If there are no data in database which exactly equal to users retrieval conditionals, the system can not provide adequate data. To solve these problems, cluster increase of FCM and re-initialization of algorithm were suggested in this study. And by interlocking knowledge-based database, built with FCM, to image database, new retrieval system was built to provide the data which are most appropriate for the requirement of users. We applied this new retrieval system to gift selection database system in pamphlet of mail order, and confirmed its effectiveness.

  • An apparel products retrieval system was proposed in which users can refer to products using Kansei evaluation values. The system adopts relevance feedback using history of the retrieval to learn the tendency of user evaluation. The system is based on a vector space retrieval model using products images expression as semantic scales. The system makes a query from user inputting information and retrieves closest products from the database. Revising algorithms of the difference method. linear multiple regression performed to investigate the effectiveness and criteria of the search. As a result of evaluation of the accuracy, it was found that the linear multiple regression and the neural network models are effective for the retrieval considering the individual Kansei.

  • 본 연구에서는 불논리검색의 단점을 보완하기 위한 가장 강력한 검색 모형인 퍼지검색과 확률검색의 효율을 불논리검색과 상호비교하였다. 실험데이터로 정보학 분야의 한국어 test collection인 KT Test Set을 이용하였고 색인어와 색인어의 문헌내 출현빈도를 바탕으로 퍼지시소러스를 생성하여 시소러스의 NT, BT로 탐색식을 확장한 다음 각각에 대해 3가지 검색을 행하고 검색효율을 평균재현율과 평균정확률로 측정하였다. 실험결과 검색효율은 재현율에서는 확률검색, 불논리검색, 퍼지검색 순으로. 정확률에서는 퍼지검색, 확률검색, 불논리검색 순으로 나타났다.

  • When an information retrieval system is implemented on-line, users can interact with the system to improve the searches. There are studies which achieved dramatic improvements in system effectiveness by using automatic relevance feedback, a technique for reformulating a patron query based on initial retrieval result. In this thesis, an automatic query modification model was applied to a controlled keyword system.
