  • This study attempted to analyze the psychological impact of mentally retarded children on their normal siblings in the family. The data were collected from siblings of 130 mentally retarded children using a questionnaire with a semantic differential scale. ANOVA and simple correlation coefficient tests were employed to examine the relationship between the siblings’ self-concept and psychological frustration. The major results of the study are as following. 1. Female siblings showed a lower degree of self-concept than male siblings. 2. No significant relationship was found between self-concept and frustration stimuli. 3. Parent related frustration stimuli was no significantly different in sex age, siblings, religion, and retardation level of mentally retarded children. 4. Siblings related frustration stimuli was significantly related to only one item in sex. 5. Their peers related frustration stimuli while sex as well as religion was significantly related to only one item.

  • In the management of the child with mental retardation, the physical therapist is challenged to use various skills. The many complex and persistent difficulties encountered by retarded children often require innovative methods physical therapy. These methods must incorporate not only he basic principles of physical therapy, but also an understanding of the teaching and learning as they relate to the mentally retarded person. Movement Play needs to parents and other professionals requires not only technical expertise on the part of the therapist, but also psychosocial skills and the ability to be a sensitive listener and teacher. We can help the mentally retarded child strive to attain goals in life.

  • We study the optimal control problem of system governed by retarded functional differential $$ x'(t) = A_0 x(t) + A_1 x(t - h) + \\ulcorner\ulcorner\ulcorner_{-h}^{0} a(s)A_2 x(t + s)ds + B_0 u(t) $$ in Hilbert space H. After the fundamental facts of retarded system and the description of condition so called a weak backward uniqueness property are established, the technically important maximal principle and the bang-bang principle are given. its corresponding linear system.

  • In this paper, we study the existence of solutions and $L^2$-regularity for fractional order retarded neutral functional differential equations in Hilbert spaces. We no longer require the compactness of structural operators to prove the existence of continuous solutions of the non-linear differential system, but instead we investigate the relation between the regularity of solutions of fractional order retarded neutral functional differential systems with unbounded principal operators and that of its corresponding linear system excluded by the nonlinear term. Finally, we give a simple example to which our main result can be applied.

  • In this article, we state and prove several new retarded nonlinear integral and integro-differential inequalities of Gronwall-Bellman-Pachpatte type. These inequalities generalize some former famous inequalities and can be used in examining the existence, uniqueness, boundedness, stability, asymptotic behaviour, quantitative and qualitative properties of solutions of nonlinear differential and integral equations. Applications are provided to demonstrate the strength of our inequalities in estimating the boundedness and global existence of the solution to initial value problem for nonlinear integro-differential equation and Volterra type retarded nonlinear equation. This research work will ensure to open the new opportunities for studying of nonlinear dynamic inequalities on time scale structure of varying nature.

  • As the result of a survey conducted by the author on the status of tile 12 educational institutions for mentally retarded children in Korea and their quartering facilities as well as on 934 children accommodated in such institutions, the following conclusion has been reached: 1) More than a half (approximately 58 percent) of the facilities for mentally retarded children are concentrated in Seoul. About eighty-three percent of these facilities are private establishments, of which 70 percent have their proprietors concurrently as their superintendents. Although these facilities were first established as many as 22 years ago, it has been only five or six years since education was actually started for mentally restarted children. 2) Out of a total of 179 employes, teachers number 99, there by constituting approximately 57.6 percent. Out of them, however, only 32 teachers or 2.8 percent have special teachers licenses. Thus, each teachers has to take care of an average of 29 children. This is excessive a number of children per teachers in view of the special nature of this education, there by indication how urgent it would be to secure more teachers lot this field. 3) Out of the mantally retarded children investigated 57.6 percent suffer from physical disorder in addition to mental retardation, 53.0 percent from mental alienation illnesses besides retardation, and 25 pent from physical, mental disorders in addition to retardation. It is therefore necessary to maintain medical and nursing facilities together with educational facilities. however, two places have no medical facilities at all, and four other places, without medical personnel, have to receive medical support from nearby hospitals or clinics. 4) The total number of children in the surveyed facilities is 934, who can be broken down into 58.7 percent boys and 41.3 percent for girls. They are classified into 12.5 percent for idiot, 37.7 percent for imbeciles, 32.7 percent for morons, and 17.3 percent for thoes children on borderline. Their average age is 13.9 years. 5) As the result of education, the illiteracy rate of mentally retarded children has decreased from 78.1 percent to 32.1 percent while the percentage of those taking the primary school course has increased for 12.2 per cent to 33.5 percent. As a result, it has been learned that education is definitely necessary for Retarded children though it may be a difficult task. 6) The children who have mentally retarded children among their brothers or sisters constitute 6.3 percent of the total number. The corresponding rate for boys is 3.5 percent while that for girls is a remarkably higher rate 10.6 percent. Through studies on the causes of their mental retardation, it has been learned that 39.6 percent of them is of the inherent type and 35.3 percent is of the environmental type. Control and improvement of health of mothers and children, early diagnosis and early treatment are believed to be very important because they could prevent or alleviant much of these conditions. 7) The storage age of teachers and employes is 35.3 years, an indication that a great proportion of them is experienced in a way or another as their major difficulty or problems in serving with these special school, 22.5 percent cited inadequate payment 24.5 gave the inadequate public understanding, and 22.5 percent pointed out the lack of understanding on the part of give parents.

  • Effects of the gardening program on the mentally retarded persons were assessed on the inadaptive behavior and the social maturity for 1 to 2 years and 2 months in Seoul Welfare Center for the Mentally Retarded. The results were as follows; 1. The mentally retarded persons treated with the gardening program for 1 to 2 years and 2 months showed and improvement of the inadaptive behavior as compared with the pre-gradening program. The second(the enervation and the social isolation) and fourth (the excessive behavior and the deviant behavior) sects among the four of Inadaptive Behavior Checklist showed and improvement of the inadaptive behavior. And first sect(crying, excitement, and anger) of Inadaptive Behavior Checklist greatly showed and improvement of the inadaptive behavior. 2. The mentally retarded persons were improved in their social maturity through the gradening program for 1 to 2 years and 2 months as compared with pre-gradening program. Both a social age and social quotient were quite a bit increased. 3. Females showed improvment in the inadaptive behavior and the social maturity by the gardening program when compared to males, but the difference between male and female was not striking. 4. Both the higher IQ group from 55 to 70 and the lower IQ group from 40 to 54 showed improvment in the inadaptive behavior by the gardening program, but the difference between two groups was not obvious. However, the higher IQ group through the gardening program increased the social maturity more than the lower IQ group. 5. In both the gardening program periods for 1 to 1 year and 2 months and those for 2 years and 2 months the inadaptive behavior and the social maturity showed an improvment when compared to pre-gardening program, but the difference between two groups was not conspicuous.
