  • The purpose of this study was to investigate ego-resilience and social adaptability of the children and adolescents in institutional care. The study also investigated the protective factors and the risk factors on ego-resilience and social adaptability and their relationship. The subjects in this study were 140 children and adolescents in institutional care. The research data were analyzed using Frequency, Pearson's Correlation, Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis and T-Test in SPSS WIN 10.0 program. The major findings were as follows. First, ego-resilience of the children and adolescents in institutional care was related to locus of control, depression and anxiety and unsatisfaction of institutional care. Result of stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that depression and anxiety and locus of control in the order had significant effects on ego-resilience. Second, social adaptability of the children and adolescents in institutional care was related to social support and parent-child bond. Unsatisfaction of institutional care and social support in the order had significant effects on social adaptability by stepwise multiple regression analysis. Third, the children and adolescents who had higher level of ego-resilience reported better social adaptability. The overall research results revealed that the risk factors such as unsatisfaction of institutional care and depression and anxiety than the protective factors had more significant effects on ego-resilience and social adaptability of children and adolescents in institutional care. This finding suggested that elimination of risk factors rather than development of protective factors was a more important task for the welfare of children and adolescents in institutional care.

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the causal relationship between mother's parenting stress and family resilience in children with ADHD. Methods: The results of the survey were hierarchically regressed. The participants were 113 mothers of children with ADHD and who lived in resident in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do Province. The main contents of the study were as follows: First, there was a significant difference in family resilience level according to mother's educational background and family monthly income. Second, the higher the parenting stress, the lower the family resilience ($r=-.622^{**}$), and all three types of coping methods showed the highest correlation with family resilience. Third, the variables affecting family resilience were in the order of problem - centered coping (${\beta}=.376$), parenting stress (${\beta}=-.338$) and mother's academic ability (${\beta}=.239$). Based on this study, this study suggested a social welfare practice plan to reduce the parenting stress and increase the resilience of the mother of the child with ADHD.

  • Recently, accidents such as human accidents are increasing rapidly due to natural disasters and changes in social conditions due to abnormal weather. As a result, damage has been causing massive damage unlike the past. In the case of small and medium enterprises excluding financial institutions and big company, there is no system for prevention and restoration for stable operation from various risks such as human and natural disasters. As the current disaster continues, public and private companies have raised the need for BCM, and with the introduction of the ISO22301 certification system, the company has been establishing and operating Enterprise Disaster Management Standards in the Ministry of Public Safety and Security since 2007. However, in most SMEs, it is hard to bear the input of internal labor and investment cost, and there is a lack of personnel with expertise to conduct BCM diagnosis. Therefore, in this paper, we will study the diagnosis level of enterprise continuity plan which is commonly used in Korea and abroad. Based on this, we will study the BCM system diagnosis method which can be applied to small and medium enterprises in Korea efficiently.

  • The construction industry is considered to be a fatal accident industry, accounting for 28.5% of the total industrial accidents in 2017, as the number of industrial accidents in the construction industry has steadily increased over the past decade. So it is necessary to consider introducing Resilience Engineering, which is actively applied to risky industries around the world, to drastically reduce construction accidents. Although Resilience Engineering, which has emerged as the next-generation safety management centered on Hollnagel since the 2000s, claims the importance of strengthening Resilience abilities considering organizational structure and culture, most studies focus only on developing evaluation indicators. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of an organization's safety culture on its Resilience abilities in the construction industry. Specifically, it conducted empirical analysis on the impact of safety culture consisting of 'communication, leadership and safety systems' on the Resilience abilities(responding ability, monitoring ability, learning ability, anticipating ability), and the mediation relationship between leadership, communication, and safety system. The survey was conducted on construction workers, and an empirical analysis was conducted on the final 154 responses using SPSS 25 and Smart PLS 3. The results showed that the safety system had a significant impact on all Resilience Abilities, and communication had a significant impact on the remaining three except for anticipating ability among Resilience Abilities. On the other hand, leadership has been shown to have a significant impact on anticipating ability only. In the verifying of the mediation relationship between leadership, communication and safety systems, it was found that leadership affects all Resilience abilities by means of safety systems, but communication can only affect responding ability. This study has practical significance in that it suggests the need for policy-level efforts to introduce and apply Resilience Engineering and then expanded the effective safety management assessment of the construction industry in the future. Moreover, the academic implications are important in that the study attempted to expand the academic scope for a paradigm shift in the future as the safety culture has identified its impact on the Resilience abilities.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of ego-resilience and job stress on job satisfaction of the rehabilitation teachers of residential facility for the disabilities. For this purpose, 193 questionnaires were collected and used for final analysis. Statistical techniques such as descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were used in the SPSS 23.0 statistical program. The results of the analysis are as follows; First, Levels of perception of ego-resilience and job satisfaction were higher than medium level, and job stress was lower than medium level. Second, Job satisfaction of the subjects were higher as the interpersonal relationship, were lower as the stress of personal role and daily work, relationship with facility and supervisor, and client relationship. These results suggest that ego-resilience and job stress are closely related to job satisfaction and that it is effective to increase ego-resilience and reduce job stress as a way to increase job satisfaction of rehabilitation teachers. Since rehabilitation teachers provide human services, they need support from peer counseling, education, and programs because their emotional exhaustion appears in interpersonal relations.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of taro extract on brain resilience in in vitro Parkinson's disease model induced by 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). Methods: To induce a neuroinflammatory reaction and the in vitro Parkinson's disease model, SH-SY5Y cells were stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and 6-OHDA, respectively. After that, cells were treated with at various concentrations (1, 5, and 10 mg/mL) of taro extract. Then nitric oxide (NO) production, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), interleukin (IL)-6, synaptophysin (SYP) and growth associated protein (GAP)-43 messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) expression level were measured. Results: Taro extract significantly suppressed LPS-induced NO production. Meanwhile, iNOS and IL-6 mRNA expression decreased in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, taro increased the mRNA expression of SYP and GAP-43 mRNA. Conclusion: These findings indicate that taro played an important role in brain resilience by inhibiting neuronal cell death and promoting neurite outgrowth, synaptogenesis, and neural plasticity. The results of this study suggest that taro may contribute to the prevention of neurodegenerative disease and become a new and safe therapeutic strategy for Parkinson's disease.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between resilience of migrant workers and their mental health for improving their quality of life and adaptation in Korean society. Methods: Data were collected from March 21 to May 7, 2011. The participants included 488 migrant workers who lived in Busan Metropolitan City or Gyoungnam province. Results: First, heavy working burdens and lack of rests, low wages, poor living environments, low economic status & deficiency of living necessities, hard physical labors, and conflicts with Korean workers had negative effects on mental health. Second, high perceived stress caused by usual 'living difficulties', high 'cutural shock', high feeling of 'social isolation', and high discomfort from 'lack of Korean language proficiency' gave negative effects on migrant worker's mental health. Third, the most important factor on the mental health was the 'cultural shock' among stressors. Even though many stressors existed among migrant workers, these negative effects on mental health were lessened by their high resilience level. Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of migrant workers in Busan, Korea. To improve their mental health, social support including financial supports and educational programs that foster resilience needed.
