The presence of cutting fluid for cutting tool and workpiece leads a temperature decrease, and reduces tool wear and residual stress. Moreover, it disposes chips from cutting area, and reduces thermal distortion. However, in manufacturing, cutting fluid used in cutting process is undesirable for both human and environmental aspect. Also, it's not economic for cutting cost. This paper studied experimentally the effects of cutting parameters on the characteristics of mist generation in turning. The results of experiment are as follows: 1) The more severe cutting conditions the more mist generate, 2) The ratio of weight concentrations of cutting fluid nearly have no an effect on the amounts of mist generation 3) The size of SMD is not affected by cutting parameters.
Permeabilization is known to overcome cell membrane barriers of whole cell biocatalysts. The use of organic solvents is advantageous in terms of cost, simplicity, and efficiency. In this study, Ochrobactrum anthropi SY509 was permeabilized with various organic solvents. Treatment with organic solvents resulted in lower permeability barriers due to falling out lipids of the cell membrane. Therefore, permeabilized cells showed higher enzyme activity with no cell viability. Among various organic solvents, 0.5% (v/v) chloroform was selected as the most efficient permeabilizing reagent. Changes in the cell membrane structure were observe d and the residual amounts of phospholipids of the cell membrane were measured to investigate the mechanism of the improved permeability.
Superabsorbent hydrogel (SAH) is a lightly crosslinked hydrophilic functional polymer material comprising a flexible chain structure, which can absorb and retain high amounts of water or aqueous fluids even under high pressure. Therefore, it is important to improve their characteristics such as absorption performance, residual monomer content, and water permeability. SAH nanocomposites were prepared using clay mineral as an inorganic filler and the influence of post-treatment processes such as quenching and aging process on their properties was studied. In addition, surface-crosslinking process was applied to improve the absorption performance associated with mechanical properties and water permeability. The structure of the SAH was characterized using attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, and scanning electron microscopy.
This study compares the difference between the remaining amount in syringes according to injection method and the dose of physiological saline when the radiopharmaceutical 18F-FDG isotope is injected into patients who visited the hospital for PET examination. After performing a CT or MRI using a contrast medium when 18F-FDG was injected into 40 patients who came to the hospital for PET examination without removing the 3-way, the radioactivity remaining in the syringe and the 3-way was measured and the dose of radioactivity confirmed. At this time, 20 patients were divided into different dose groups of physiological saline. Another injection method was used to compare the remaining amount of the syringe and the difference in the remaining amount according to the amount of physiological saline when the injection was performed with an extension. After an injection of 18F-FDG, the actual administered dose was confirmed by measuring the radioactivity remaining in the syringe and the 3-way or extension with a calibrator. As a result of measuring the radioactivity of the syringe before administering the radiopharmaceutical and the radioactivity of the syringe and the 3-way or extension after administration, the 3-way injection method in 10 cc's of physiological saline had the lowest residual amount. The remaining amount increased in the order of the extension to 10 cc's of saline and the 3-way to 5 cc's of saline. Likewise, the 5 cc's saline solution and the extension injection method demonstrated the highest residual amounts. The residual difference with the lowest level of remaining injection method was found to be 0.053 mCi. It was found that in a PET examination, by considering the radioactivity remaining in the 3-way and extension and by adjusting the dose of physiological saline, if the intended dose to be administered to the actual patient is determined, it is possible to administer the radiopharmaceutical to the patient more accurately.
Gel type internal electrolytes were synthesized by varying hydroxyethyl-cellulose (HEC) amounts and their durability and conductivity were measured. The ionic conductivity decreased as the content of HEC increased thus the internal electrolyte containing more than 12% of HEC could not be used as a reference electrode. Based on durability test results, as the HEC amount decreased carrier density resulting in increasing of the amount of KCl coming out of the porous membrane. Therefore in order to use long time at ballast water treatment systems, we selected 10% HEC for gel type internal electrolyte. The resolution test for total residual oxidants (TRO) was carried out using the TRO sensor and the gel type reference electrode made of 10% HEC. A 50 mV potential was applied to the TRO sensor for 30 sec and changes in the current were measured. It was confirmed that the TRO concentrations ranging from 0 to 15 mg/L could be separated at salinity conditions of 0.2~30 PSU. The results indicated that the TRO concentration at sea water and at fresh water was successfully measured by the TRO sensor constructed with the reference electrode using gel-type internal electrolyte of HEC.
The transfer pattern of chlorpyrifos present in soil to cucumber plants were assessed and reported with plant growth, concentration dependency, and duration. Cucumber seedlings cultivated in a growth chamber for 30 days and a greenhouse for 120 days. Weight and length of cucumbers cultivated in the chamber increased with the increasing time, while the uptake of chlorpyrifos by cucumber increased a period from 0 to 15 days and decreased after 15 days. Uptake rates of chlorpyrifos into a cucumber plant were 1.0~1.3% to initial amounts treated with 20 and 40 mg/kg to soil. Most chlorpyrifos residues were detected in root, followed by stem and leaf. Results of the greenhouse test showed that chlorpyrifos amounts in cucumber fruits were present less than LOQ (0.02 mg/kg), and chlorpyrifos was mainly found in the root of the cucumber plant. Chlorpyrifos absorbed in a cucumber under greenhouse condition was smaller than that in chamber condition as 0.03~0.04%. Degradation patterns of chlorpyrifos in soils were similar during indoor and outdoor tests with half-lives of 25.8~73.0 days. These results may be useful for establishing the management strategy of residual pesticides in soil environment.

In order to determine the residual characteristics of pesticides in fruits and their effects on human health, monitoring of pesticide residues were conducted in apples, peaches, pears, grapes and citrus from the major cultivation areas in 2010. Safeties of the pesticides detected from the fruits were evaluated using the amounts of pesticide residue detected and dietary risk index (DRI). Samples were taken from 4-5 major fruit cultivation areas and then pesticide residues in the test fruits were analyzed with a liquid chromatographymass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Mean residue levels of the pesticides in fruits were 0.001-0.144 mg/kg. The DRIs were 0.55 for apple, 0.066 for peach, 0.008 for pear, 0.025 for grape, and 0.37 for citrus, respectively. The results indicated that the amounts of pesticide residues in domestic fruits might be safe, considering the regulatory concerning level 1.0.

The effects of mold variable and main alloying element on the mechanical properties of ductile cast iron poured into shell stack mold were investigated. The strength and hardness of with the smaller cross-section of the diameter of 6.25mm were higher than those of 12.50mm. On the other hand, the elongation of the former was lower than that of the latter. The strength and hardness of the specimens obtained from the center layer in the 5-story stack mold were the lowest and those for other specimens were increased with increased distance from the center. The elongation of those were the highest of all. The strength and hardness of the specimens obtained from the center layer were decreased the elongation was increased with the increased number of layers. The strength and hardness were increased and the elongation was decreased roughly with the increased amounts of reaidual magnesium and carbon content added, respectively. The strength and hardness were increased and the elongation was decreased roughly with the increased amounts of silicon content added to 2.45wt% and rather decreased with that to 2.85wt%. The effect of silicon content showed the opposite tendency to those of residual magnesium and carbon content.
Some nodules occur in the Milyang pyrophyllite deposit which are hydrothermal alteration products by Late Cretaceous andesitic tuff. These nodules are divided into two types on the basis of mineral assemblages; diaspore and pyrophyllite nodules. The diaspore nodules consist mainly of diaspore, kaolinite, pyrophyllite and pyrite with a small amounts of wavellite and tourmaline. They are light purplish grey in color, ellipsoid in shape and range 1 cm to 15 cm in size. A small or large diffuse band exists in some nodules. The platy coarse-grained diaspore is intergrown with the fine-aggregated kaolinite in the central part of the nodule. It appears that the grain size become fine from center to margin. The pyrophyllite nodules, which have the same shape with diaspore nodules, consist dominantly of pyrophyllite accompanied by small amounts of quartz, kaolinite, svanbergite, wavellite, tourmaline and apatite. Chemical compositions of alteration zones and nodules show that the wall rock alteration involved mainly the removal of large quantities of silica and alkalies and small quantities of Ca, Mg and Fe. The sharp increase in the Al content of the nodules is the result of residual concentration of alumina by the leaching of the mobile components. The pyrophyllite nodules were formed in the fluid saturated with quartz as ${\mu}_{HK_{-1}}$ and ${\mu}_{H_{2}O}$ increase. Under this condition, the pyrophyllite-kaolinite-quartz assemblage was stable. Diaspores formed from pyrophyllites in the fluid undersaturated with quartz as ${\mu}_{H_{2}O}$ increases (decreasing temperature). Under this condition, diaspore-pyrophyllite-kaolinite assemblage become stable. The formation temperature of the nodules on the basis of mineral assemblage is estimated as $275{\sim}340^{\circ}C$.
In ad-hoc networks, dynamically reconfigurable and temporary wireless networks, all mobile devices cooperatively maintain network connectivity with no assistance of base stations while they have limited amounts of energy that is used in different rates depending on the power level. Since every node has to perform the functions of a router, if some nodes die early due to lack of energy, it will not be possible for other nodes to communicate with each other and network lifetime will be shortened. Consequently, it is very important to develop a technique to efficiently consume the limited amounts of energy resources so that the network lifetime is maximized. In this paper, geographical localized routing is proposed to help making smarter routing decision using only local information and reduce the routing overhead. The proposed localized routing algorithm selects energy-aware neighbors considering the transmission energy and error rate over the wireless link, and the residual energy of the node, which enables nodes to achieve balanced energy-consumption and the network lifetime to prolong.
