  • Purpose : This study aimed to identify ways to improve the quality of physical therapy research and ultimately review the current situation to improve evidence-based decision-making in physical therapy. Methods : For better evidence-based decision-making in physical therapy, researchers should review the quality assessment of articles in more detail and report their findings for valid and appropriate level of evidence and strength of recommendations. The level of evidence affects how well the findings are derived from well-designed literature. The evaluation of the evidence focuses primarily on the study design and the degree of bias that may compromise the validity of the findings. The final recommendation is based on a combination of the study design and literature quality. To uncover gems of information in each paper, a risk of bias assessment should be performed after the literature has been initially selected. Results : Researchers should consider the complexity of the intervention, appropriate grouping, and calculation of effect sizes for the intervention. Researchers conducting systematic reviews should provide a detailed description of the quality assessment performed and present a detailed analysis of their interpretation of the results. The results of systematic reviews and meta-analyses should be interpreted with caution and include a risk of bias assessment. Guidelines for the level of evidence and strength of recommendations should be developed and utilized more broadly to improve reporting practices in physical therapy. Conclusion : Researchers should be knowledgeable about the strengths and limitations of each study design and methodology. In the future, researchers will also need to improve their ability to critically evaluate their findings, given the potential for their results to influence clinical practice.

  • Human resource for the new and renewable energy technology is an important factor in the respect of the sustainable growth and energy security. In this paper, we focused on measuring the economic effect of human resource development on new and renewable energy development programs. The human capital accumulation model developed by Mincer (1974) was modified in terms of the rate of the researchers' investment in human capital. As a result of a empirical case study, the value of human capital was estimated by 102 million Korean won per year worth 18% of the project labor cost. In case of the assumption of 100% participation of researchers, the level of human capital accumulation increased to 914 million Korean won per year. These results imply that the new and renewable energy development programs has been successful, on the concept of learning by doing, in terms of providing the researchers with opportunities to accumulate human capital.

  • Researchers in science and technology has broadened the scope of research in order to solve complex problems, academic exchange has also been actively carried out. If the paper which is a mean of interdisciplinary approach has a limited term and the formula, it can act as barriers to access for many researchers in various fields. This paper proposes a cross-validation method for eliminating documentary barriers based on discrete event system formalism. We expect that our proposed method will improve a cross-validation considering researchers in another fields.

  • Purpose: This paper was written to introduce methods of using the research ethics committee (RES) from requesting the initial review to reporting the close-out for nursing researchers. Methods: General ethical principles were described by reviewing the 'Bioethics and Safety Act' and other related guidelines, and constructing some questions and answers. Results: The results were composed of three parts; definition of RES, steps in using RES, and archiving. The 7 steps for using RES were; identifying whether the study needed to be reviewed, by the RES identifying whether the study could be exempted, requesting the initial review after preparing documents, requesting the re-review, requesting an amendment review, requesting a continuing review and reporting the close-out. Conclusion: Nursing researchers need to receive RES approval before starting nursing research involving human subjects. Nursing researchers are urged to use the steps reported in this paper to receive RES approval easily and quickly.

  • The use of statistical methods in the MIS research is increasing. However, there has been a meager attempt to critically evaluate the use statistical methods in MIS research papers. The review of 33G papers published in MIS Quarterly from Volume 1 to 14 resulted in three findings; (1) the portion of empirical research has been gradually increasing compared with non-empirical research, (2) univariate parametric statistical methods are most popular among MIS researchers, (3) researchers do not comply with the writing code of scientific research. This paper disscusses what errors MIS researchers might commit in using statistical research methods and how to prevent those errors in each of three stages of research, research design phase, statistical inference phase, and interpretation phase.

  • After a brief discussion of the reality of OR/MS, a detailed examination is made of the impacts of academic OR/MS on its practice. These impacts include the dispersion of OR/MS in organizations, the traditional role of OR/MS, researchers, and the narrow interpretation of decision making process of current OR/MS, and the dissolution of its interdiciplinarity. The changes in OR/MS environment which should have evoked adaptive responses from it, but were not considered. The increasing inappropriateness of OR/MS methodology is discussed by focusing on the deficiencies of its concept and practice of optimization and academic role of OR/MS researchers. These deficiencies, it is argued, can be overcome by a comprehensive reconceptualization of the field, its methodology, the extended role of OR/MS researchers. Finally, the example of realizing New Paradigm, the Full Corporate Modelling with Simulation, is presented.

  • In this critique, the mission of child/family professionals is reidentified as educators, researchers, and practitionars. In order to more effectively assist child and family in coping with a changing society, educators need to give serious attention to such issues as self-formation for the individuals and human relations for the families. The missons of researchers are shifted from quantitative to both qualitative and quantitative emphases. The micro - and macro - intervention are seen as primary two roles for the practitioners. Implications of these missions are discussed in terms of specific suggetions for the future direction. Consequently, challenges and opportunities abound for child/family professionals.

  • This study comparatively investigated citation behavior of articles by researchers in the field of mechanical engineering in Korea and Japan. For the study 7, 515 citations from 202 articles covered in KSME, 243 articles covered in JSME, and 129 articles indexed in SCI are analysed. It identified the general citation behavior, the difference with citation behavior by publication place, low use of grey literature and Korean publications by Korean researchers, and the difference with citation behavior between Korean and Japan researchers.

  • In this paper, a new analytical approach has been presented for solving nonlinear conservative oscillators. Variational approach leads us to high accurate solution with only one iteration. Two different high nonlinear examples are also presented to show the application and accuracy of the presented approach. The results are compared with numerical solution using runge-kutta algorithm in different figures and tables. It has been shown that the variatioanl approach doesn't need any small perturbation and is accurate for nonlinear conservative equations.

  • Analyzers adopt a variety of techniques in analyzing public policy. Based on the results of exploration, they explain problems and suggest prescriptions such as policy alternatives. By doing so, however, they have different degree of confidence in their own results according to what techniques they adopt. This study explores whether system dynamics apporach gives analyzers more confidence on their own simulation results than other approaches do. This study designed an experiment. Three research teams are organized. Each of them applies different analytic techniques on the same policy issue, i.e., introduction of transportation tax. It flnds that researchers using S,D. simulation technique are most confident on what they predict, while researchers adopting survey techniques show moderate degree of confidence on their results. Researchers using regression are least confident.
