Optimal Stocking for Age-replaced Non-repairable Items (수리 불가능한 품목의 수명교환을 위한 최적 재고정책)

  • Joint stocking and preventive age replacement policy is considered for non-repairable items assuming instantaneous replenishment. A recursive relationship among the optimal preventive replacement ages is obtained, which shows that the preventive replacement ages in a replenishment cycle form an increasing sequence due to the inventory carrying cost. Using this relationship, a procedure is given for determining how many units to purchase on each order and when to replace each unit after it has begun operating so as to minimize the total cost per unit time over an infinite time span. The problem can be simplified if equal preventive replacement ages are assumed, and the solution is very close to that of the original unconstrained problem.

  • Recently, an extended warranty of a system following the expiration of the basic warranty is becoming increasingly popular to the user. In this respect, we suggest a replacement model following the expiration of extended warranty with minimal repair warranty from the user's point of view in this paper. Under extended warranty, the failed system is minimally repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the user during the original extended warranty period. As a criterion of the optimality, we utilize the expected cost rate per unit time during the life cycle from the user's perspective and suggest the optimal replacement period after extended warranty. Finally, a few numerical examples are given for illustrative purpose.

  • In this paper, we want to know the optimal replacement cycle(time) for this study was performed. The optimal preventive replacement age can be fond by finding the value of time that minimizes the cost function(model of Barlow and Jardine). In addition, The reliability of the relay according to the service environment were studied. The use of the exchange relay period is longer, and maintenance cost rate(per hour) may increase, and also the reliability may cause a decline. In addition, considering the preventive maintenance and purchase order, a representative relay(RAX-L440-A type) life was calculated.

  • Engineers are always concerned with life cycle costs for making important economic decisions through engineering action like reliability of products. Decisions during the reliability growth development of products involve trade-offs between invested costs and its returns. In order to find minimal LCC containing the reliability improvement cost, production cost, repair and replacement costs, and holding cost of spare parts for failure items we suggest in this paper relationship between development cost and sustaining cost in values of growth parameter $\beta$ of AMSAA model. This model is applied to the reliability growth program based on AMSAA model during R&D phase, the warranty activities of items and the block replacement policy for maintenance of items in avionic equipment.

  • Enough school facility maintenance data should be accumulated in a database or data warehouse in order to supply information about school facility correct maintenance budget plan, budget assignment, and cycle and rate of maintenance or replacement. For those, this research analyze the present school facility maintenance practice and budget and construction cost structure. In order to solve the problems, this study analyze the present practice of maintenance and replacement and obtain LCC(Life cycle cost) data, perform expert interview and then establish construction work breakdown structure of maintenance of educational facility by combining work breakdown structure(WBS) and cost breakdown structure(CBS).

  • In this study, a tensile test, one of the mechanical tests, was performed with the collected natural aging ACSR. In order to be used as basic data for predicting the replacement cycle of ACSR, the tensile strength with the normal cables was compared for cables which was caused white rust due to exposure of the hard-drawn aluminum wire surface. Among the ACSR wires collected from various regions, white rust was found on the surface of the small wire, and by checking the tensile strength of them, we would like to suggest the criteria for the ACSR replacement cycle, focusing on changes in mechanical properties.

Evaluation of Leachate Replacement Effect on Solid State Anaerobic Digestion of Dairy Manure and Sawdust Bedding Mixtures

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of leachate replacement frequency on solid state anaerobic digestion (SSAD) of dairy manure using 22 L volume lab-scale digesters at mesophilic temperature ($37^{\circ}C$) in batch mode. Three different leachate replacement strategies (no replacement, once every three days, and once every nine days) were applied and three digesters per each treatment were operated for 45 days. Results showed that leachate replacement test unit every nine days resulted in 1.6 times more methane production ($53.8N{\cdot}mL\;g^{-1}{\cdot}VS$) from SSAD compared to test unit every three days ($34.0N{\cdot}mL\;g^{-1}{\cdot}VS$). No leachate replacement strategy applied group showed slightly higher methane production ($56.3N{\cdot}mL\;g^{-1}{\cdot}VS$) than every nine days replaced one. When added the methane production potential of replaced leachate itself to the methane produced from digester, leachate replacement every nine days resulted in quite similar methane production ($56.5N{\cdot}mL\;g^{-1}{\cdot}VS$) to no leachate replacement group. Even though methane production potential of replaced leachate itself added to the methane produced from digester, every three days replacement showed only $34N{\cdot}mL$ methane production per gram of volatile solids. These results suggest that farmers do not need to replace leachate during SSAD of dairy manure and sawdust mixture in order to maximize methane production. If there are any concerns with accumulation of inhibiting substances in the digester, the 9-day cycle leachate replacement is appropriate.

Method for Composing a Portfolio for REITs Investment Using Markowitz's Portfolio Model

  • Domestic construction companies are suffering from financing difficulties in the wake of the economic slump in Korea and abroad. During this economic slump, real estate investment trusts (REITs), facilitators for improving financing and stimulating construction businesses, have increasingly expanded since their introduction in 2001. However, in terms of growth speed and marketing size, Korean REITs are falling behind those of other nations. The purpose of this study is to suggest a method for composing a portfolio using the Markowitz portfolio selection model to stimulate REITs. The main contents are as follows. First, a comparative analysis was conducted of increased REIT profit with the application of the Markowitz model and the average REIT profit rate from July 3, 2007, to July 21, 2008, during the investment analysis periods. The results showed that the total profit rate from the Markowitz model was about 10% higher than the average REIT profit rate. Second, the sensitivity was analyzed according to the portfolio's data-gathering and replacement cycle to measure the optimum cycle and yield. The six-mouth profit data collection period showed about 16% higher profits with the Markowitz model than with the REITs. The two-week portfolio change period resulted in about 11% higher profits with the Markowitz model than with the REITs.

LDF-CLOCK: The Least-Dirty-First CLOCK Replacement Policy for PCM-based Swap Devices

  • Phase-change memory (PCM) is a promising technology that is anticipated to be used in the memory hierarchy of future computer systems. However, its access time is relatively slower than DRAM and it has limited endurance cycle. Due to this reason, PCM is being considered as a high-speed storage medium (like swap device) or long-latency memory. In this paper, we adopt PCM as a virtual memory swap device and present a new page replacement policy that considers the characteristics of PCM. Specifically, we aim to reduce the write traffic to PCM by considering the dirtiness of pages when making a replacement decision. The proposed replacement policy tracks the dirtiness of a page at the granularity of a sub-page and replaces the least dirty page among pages not recently used. Experimental results with various workloads show that the proposed policy reduces the amount of data written to PCM by 22.9% on average and up to 73.7% compared to CLOCK. It also extends the lifespan of PCM by 49.0% and reduces the energy consumption of PCM by 3.0% on average.
