  • This report concerns the study of deciding replacement requirements for 1/4ton truck in Korea. Two causes of replacement, accidental loss and wearout are considered in the replacement requirements model which was developed in Defence Logistics Agency. The model represents the state of 1/4 ton truck inventory over time as a finite Markov chain process. An accidental loss rate, yearly usage rates. wearout rates are used in conjuction with the current mileage distribution of the inventory to forecast replacement requirements in future time periods.

  • In most of literatures of age replacement policy, the authors consider the case that a new item starts operating at time zero and is to be replaced by new one at time T. It is, however, often to purchase used items because of the limited budget. In this paper, we consider age replacement policy of a used item whose age is $t_0$. The mathematical formulas of the expected cost rate per unit time are derived for both infinite-horizon case and finite-horizon case. For each case, we show that the optimal replacement age exists and is finite and investigate the effect of the age of the used item.

  • In this paper, the effect on the forced replacement depth of the revetment in soft soil with inter sand layer is analyzed by model test. In the result, the forced replacement occur in 60 second from filling the embankment material. The shape of the forced replacement depth is like to punching shape. Then, in case of thin inter sand layer and near the embankment, the forced replacement depth of inter sand layer case is more than only clayed soil case.

  • A block replacement policy using items with different reliability is discussed. We devide system unit failure modes into two modes and use less reliable unit when operating unit fails near the planned preventive replacement time. In this policy, item A has two failure modes. Mode-1 failure is removed by minimal repair, mode-2 failure by replacement. If mode-2 failure of item A happens in (0,T- $\delta$). failure item A is replaced by new item A. If mode-2 failure of item A happens in(T-$\delta$,T), failure item A is replaced by new item B. Item B should be cheaper and less durable than item A. Under this policy, we determine the preventive replacement interval T and the interval $\delta$ of item B replacement which minimize the cost rate per unit time.

  • This study analyzes remaining repair rate and applied repair rate with the presentation of profit model for the purpose of pursuing maximization of added value through remodeling of apartment house. Objects of remodeling and item applying the whole replacement of functionality evaluation items include exterior of building (3 items maintaining the current conditions, 8 items requiring the whole replacement), water supply/sanitary/gas/ventilation facilities (6 items maintaining the current conditions, 6 items requiring the whole replacement, electric/fire fighting/elevator facilities (8 items maintaining the current conditions, 20 items requiring the whole replacement) and heating/water heater facilities (2 items requiring the whole replacement).

  • This study tried to present the appropriate replacement ratio of the recycled sand through the properties of the ternary system inorganic composite mortar according to replacement ratio change of the recycled sand about the natural sand through test verification. The flowing and compressive strength was degraded as the replacement ratio of the experimental result recycled sand increased. The appropriate replacement ratio of the recycled sand according to it was shown up less than 15%.

  • This paper considers a Bayesian approach to determine an optimal replacement policy for a repairable system with warranty period. The mathematical formula of the expected cost rate per unit time is obtained for two cases : RFRW(renewing free-replacement warranty) and RPRW(renewing pro-rata warranty). When the failure time is Weibull distribution with uncertain parameters, a Bayesian approach is established to formally express and update the uncertain parameters for determining an optimal replacement policy. Some numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

  • From April 1982 to December, 1988, multiple valve replacement was performed in 49 patients. Mitral and aortic valve replacement were done in 42 patients, 4 underwent mitral and tricuspid valve replacement and 3 patients underwent triple valve replacement. Of the valve implanted, 50 were Duromedics, 21 St. Jude, 13 Bjork-Shiley, 9 Carpentier-Edwards, 6 Ionescu-Shiley, and 2 Medtronic. The hospital mortality rate was 28.5 % [14 patients] and the late mortality rate was 6.1 % [3 patients], the mortality rate was high in early operative period but decreased with time. [20% at 1986, 18.2 % at 1987, 9.5% at 1988] The causes of death were low cardiac output in 8, congestive heart failure in 2, multiple organ failure in 1, LV rupture in 1, intracerebral hemorrhage in 1 and sudden death in l. The actuarial survival rate excluding operative death was 77% at 7 years.

  • In the department of chest surgery of WonKwang university hospital, mechanical valve replacement was performed in 51 cases from June 1985 to September 1987. Among these, 32 cases were mitral valve replacement, 4 cases were aortic valve replacement, and 15 cases were double valve replacement. 26 cases were male and 25 cases were female and age distribution ranged from 16 years old to 63 years old. Early death within 30 days after operation was 2 cases [3.9%] and causes of death were right heart failure [1] and right ventricular wall rupture [1]. Among 49 early survivors, 2 cases of late death were developed and the causes of death were cardiomyopathy [1] and ventricular arrhythmia [1] Anticoagulant therapy was done with warfarin sodium to the level of 1.5-2 times of normal prothrombin time [20-40%] in 47 survivors. Symptomatically, 93.6% of preoperative NYHA functional class III or IV were converted to the NYHA functional class I or II during follow up.

  • This paper deals with a procedure of changing the current inspection & replacement periods for ROKAF aircraft parts. ROKAF is mostly operating aircraft of foreign makes, and takes maintenance actions according to Technical Orders(TO.) published by foreign aircraft manufacturers. Therefore ROKAF inspects and replaces specific parts at the time noticed from T.O.. These inspection and replacement periods are determined by manufacturers according to the standard operating environment and parts' durability. But the standard operating environment Is different from operator's environment. Because of this difference, the inspection and replacement periods have to be changed according to operators' operation environment. It is resonable that the manufacturer, having design materials and life test data of parts, changes those periods together with materials of operators' operation environment. But we have many difficulties in obtaining the design materials and life test data. Then this paper proposes a procedure of changing the periods of aircraft's parts with life data obtained during operating aircraft. For the reliability analysis, a software of RELEST (Reliability Estimation Version 1.0) is used.
