  • Availability is an important measure of performance of a repairable component. In this paper, the explicit expression for the availability of a repairable component, which is subject to the policy II(Age Replacement Policy) of Barlow and Hunter (1960), is obtained and the existence of the steady state availability is shown. The steady state availabilities of the model are also obtained for the cases when the mean of the minimal repair time is increasing at a geometric rate or linearly increasing, In order to show the importance and the utility of the obtained result, we also consider an illustrative example of the repairable coherent system whose components are repairable, and the obtained results are applied to derive the steady state availability of the whole system. In this situation, we can see that the condition of the existence of the steady state availability for each component is essential. Some remarks on the optimal replacement policy that maximizes the steady state availability are also given.

  • This paper is to derive three reliability and eight maintainability measures after organizing total time. I propose inherent availability,.achieved availability and operational availability with the new and useful reliability and maintainability measures above. Especially, inherent availability measure extends the repairable system reliability models.

  • A novel reliability-based work model of k/n (G) system has been developed. Unit failure probability is given based on the load and strength distributions and according to the stress-strength interference theory. Then a dynamic reliability prediction model of repairable k/n (G) system is established using probabilistic differential equations. The resulting differential equations are solved and the value of k can be determined precisely. The number of work unit k in repairable k/n (G) system is obtained precisely. The reliability of whole life cycle of repairable k/n (G) system can be predicted and guaranteed in the design period. Finally, it is illustrated that the proposed model is feasible and gives reasonable prediction.

  • As the inventory costs of repairable items in military logistics continue to increase, many studies for optimal inventory level of these items are being carried out in advanced countries, including the US, to reduce these costs. Research on inventory level optimization for repairable items aimed to achieve the availability goal of a system with a MIME(Multi Indenture Multi Echelon) repair policy structure first began with Sherbrooke's METRIC and developed into various types. This research is to analyze and compare recent V-METRIC related studies to search for another variation in this field. This paper mainly looks at how to determine optimum inventory level for each repairable item to achieve a specific availability target within a limited budget, and also how to minimize inventory cost while achieving its availability target by determining optimal inventory level of each repairable item.

  • The model of unit dynamic reliability of repairable k/n (G) system with unit strength degradation under repeated random shocks has been developed according to the stress-strength interference theory. The unit failure number is obtained based on the unit failure probability which can be computed from the unit dynamic reliability. Then, the transfer probability function of the repairable k/n (G) system is given by its Markov property. Once the transfer probability function has been obtained, the probability density matrix and the steady-state probabilities of the system can be retrieved. Finally, the dynamic reliability of the repairable k/n (G) system is obtained by solving the differential equations. It is illustrated that the proposed method is practicable, feasible and gives reasonable prediction which conforms to the engineering practice.

  • Engineering systems are usually repairable. The reliability of a repairable system can be represented by failure intensity function. A type of shape of failure intensity function is called a failure pattern. Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) presents six typical failure patterns but its definition is unclear. It is an open issue how to recognize the failure pattern of repairable systems. This paper first discusses the problems of RCM with the notion of failure pattern; then presents the method for failure pattern recognition; and finally proposes a flexible failure intensity function model. The appropriateness of the model is illustrated by a real-world example.

  • In this paper, partially repairable concurrent spare parts requirement determination problem of newly procured equipment systems is considered. “partially repairable” means that a portion of damaged parts can be recover their function and reused after repairs. A mathematical model is derived for making an CSP requirement determination subject to the constraint of satisfying any given operational availability limitation. We assume that the failure of a part follows a Poisson process and the repair time has an exponential distribution. Using the generalized Lagrange multipliers method, the solution procedure is derived.

  • In this paper, we define an availability of repairable network system, when the states of links are modeled by alternating renewal processes. The actual availabilities of some well-known network systems are obtained. The expected numbers of failures and repairs of the network systems are also calculated.

  • Recently, it is of great interest among engineers and reliability scientists to consider a statistical model to describe the failure times of various types of repairable systems. The main subject we deal with in this paper is the power law process which is proved to be a useful model to describe the reliability growth of the repairable system. In particular, we derive the bootstrap confidence intervals of the mean time between two successive failures of a repairable system using the time truncated data. We also compare our bootstrap confindence intervals with Crow's (1982) confidence interval.

  • The power law process model the Rate of occurrence of failures(ROCOF) with monotonic trend during the operating time. However, the power law process is inappropriate when a non-monotonic trend in the failure data is observed. In this paper we deals with the reliability modeling of the failure process of large and complex repairable system whose rate of occurrence of failures shows the non-monotonic trend. We suggest a sectional model and a change-point test based on the Schwarz information criterion(SIC) to describe the non-monotonic trend. Maximum likelihood is also suggested to estimate parameters of sectional model. The suggested methods are applied to field data from an repairable system.
