Management Evaluation on the Regional Fisheries Cooperatives using Data Envelopment Analysis Model (DEA모형에 의한 지역수협의 경영평가)

  • This study is designed to measure the relative efficiency of regional fishery cooperatives based on Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) methods. Selecting 40 regional fishery cooperatives in Busan as Decision Making Units (DMUs), the study uses their panel data from 2007 to 2008 to rank the relative efficiency of the DMUs. First, the efficiency score of the DMUs are calculated using CCR, SBM, and super-SMB model. Within the model, input variables are the number of employees and area of fishery cooperatives. Output variables are the amount of deposit money, loan and profit. Based on the efficiency scores calculated from super-SMB model, the efficiency ranking of the DMUs is determined. Second, the differences in average efficiency calculated from the three DEA models are tested using a pair-wise mean comparison test. The results based on the efficiency scores evaluated from super-SMB model show that seven out of the forty DMUs are efficient; among the efficient DMUs, the DMUs that can be benchmarked for inefficient DMUs through the frequency analysis of reference set being identified. Third, the differences in average efficiency of the three DEA models between 2007 and 2008 are tested using pair-wise mean comparison test and the study estimates the efficiency change of the DMUs between 2007 and 2008 using Malmquist productivity index(MPI). Finally, the paper suggests an improved composite DMU superior to the inefficient DMUs evaluated by Super-SBM model.

  • The relative efficiency of loan projects of information technology promotion fund is measured using Data Envelopment Analysis. Information technology promotion project is supervised by the Ministry of Information and Communication and is managed by the Institute of Information Technology Assessment. Among all the projects of information technology supported by this fund, this study deals with the themes that have been completed from 2000 to 2002. With multiple input and output data including the amount of fund, the period of study, the rate of increase in revenue, the increase in the amount of export and the increase in the number of patent, the relative efficiency scores of all the 119 subjects were calculated in CCR and BCC models of DEA. From the reference sets of some inefficient Decision Making Units, the causes of their inefficiency were analyzed. To compare the relative efficiencies among various DMUs, Super-Efficiency Ranking Method and Logistic Regression Model were used. As the result of this study, it was shown that W promotion funds in the fields related to mobile technology, visual equipment and communication device were used most efficiently.

  • Photonic crystal solar cells have the potential for addressing the disparate length scales in polymer photovoltaic materials, thereby confronting the major challenge in solar cell technology: efficiency. One must achieve simultaneously an efficient absorption of photons with effective carrier extraction. Unfortunately the two processes have opposing requirements. Efficient absorption of light calls for thicker PV active layers whereas carrier transport always benefits from thinner ones, and this dichotomy is at the heart of an efficiency/cost conundrum that has kept solar energy expensive relative to fossil fuels. This dichotomy persists over the entire solar spectrum but increasingly so near a semiconductor's band edge where absorption is weak. We report a 2-D, photonic crystal morphology that enhances the efficiency of organic photovoltaic cells relative to conventional planar cells. The morphology is developed by patterning an organic photoactive bulk heterojunction blend of Poly(3-(2-methyl-2-hexylcarboxylate) thiophene-co-thiophene) and PCBM via PRINT, a nano-embossing method that lends itself to large area fabrication of nanostructures. The photonic crystal cell morphology increases photocurrents generally, and particularly through the excitation of resonant modes near the band edge of the organic PV material. The device performance of the photonic crystal cell showed a nearly doubled increase in efficiency relative to conventional planar cell designs. Photonic crystals can also enhance performance of other optoelectronic devices including organic laser.

  • This paper introduces quantitative tools for evaluating the relative efficiency of Career & Counseling Jobs in universities. As tools, it uses Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) developed by Charnes and Cooper. It finally selects 29 DMUs which are listed on the Ministry Of Education, Science And Technology(http://academyinfo.go.kr). We measures the technical efficiency of each DMU with the use of DEA-CRS, rather then DEA-VRS because DEA-CRS not only compares relative efficiencies but also implicitly considers economies of scale based on the assumption of linearity. We run a linear programming model Frontier Analyst Program for the estimation of the relative efficiencies of each DMU. The model also indicates the precise amount of inefficiencies for each input, which mean how much inputs are wasted for a given output and how much the university is inefficiently operated. This analysis helps to give guideline for the organization to construct a futureoriented operational strategy and also to show clear picture of contents of mismanagement for the past. The details of mismanagement are to be identified, analysed and finally corrected.

  • This paper considers the likelihood ratio test statistic based on nonlinear regression quantiles estimators in order to test of hypothesis about the regression parameter $\theta_o$ and derives asymptotic distribution of proposed test statistic under the null hypothesis and a sequence of local alternative hypothesis. The paper also investigates asymptotic relative efficiency of the proposed test to the test based on the least squares estimators or the least absolute deviation estimators and gives some examples to illustrate the application of the main result.

  • We shall propose maximum likelihood, Bayesian and generalized maximum likelihood estimation for the reliability of the two-unit hot standby system with exponential lifetime distribution that switch is perfect. Each estimation will be compared numerically in terms of various mission times, parameter values and asymptotic relative efficiency through Monte Carlo simulation.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the relative efficiency of Korean National Railroad (KNR). Railways can be seen as multi-product firms which produced both passenger and freight transportation services. For evaluating the operational efficiencies of 23 UIC (International Union of Railways) members including KNR we use data envelopment analysis (DEA) in which multiple inputs and multiple outputs can be handled explicitly.

  • In the multiple linear regression model a class of weighted least absolute error estimaters, which minimize the sum of weighted absolute residuals, is proposed. It is shown that the weighted least absolute error estimators with Wilcoxon scores are equivalent to the Koul's Wilcoxon type estimator. Therefore, the asymptotic efficiency of the proposed estimator with Wilcoxon scores relative to the least squares estimator is the same as the Pitman efficiency of the Wilcoxon test relative to the Student's t-test. To find the estimates the iterative weighted least squares method suggested by Schlossmacher is applicable.

  • Quasi likelihood estimators defined by Wedderburn are derived for several nonlinear time series models. And also, the least squared estimator and Quasi-likelihood estimator are compared in sense of asymptotic relative efficiency at those models. Finally, we apply these estimations to a real data on exchanging rate and stock market prices.
