  • This paper is concerned with finding the global optimal solutions for the redundancy optimization problems in series-parallel systems related with system safety. This study transforms the difficult problem, which is classified as a nonlinear integer problem, into a 0/1 IP(Integer Programming) by using binary integer variables. And the global optimal solution to this problem can be easily obtained by applying GAMS (General Algebraic Modeling System) to the transformed 0/1 IP. From computational results, we notice that GA(Genetic Algorithm) to this problem, which is, to our knowledge, known as a best algorithm, is poor in many cases.

  • Electro-hydraulic brake system has many advantages. It provides improved braking performance and stability functions. It also removes complex mechanical parts for freedom of design, improves maintenance requirements and reduces unit weight. However, the EHB system should be dependable and have back-up redundancy in case of a failure. In this paper, the model-based fault diagnosis system is developed to monitor the brake status using the analytical redundancy method. The performance of the model-based fault diagnosis system is verified in real-time simulation. It demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed system in various faulty cases.

  • This paper introduces a scaled hardware model for the 10kVA, 1kV, 11-level MMC (Modular Multilevel Converter), which was manufactured in the lab based on computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC. Various experiments were conducted to verify the major operation algorithms of MMC. The hardware scaled-model developed in the lab can be utilized for analyzing the operation analysis and performance evaluation of MMC according to the modulation pattern and redundancy operation scheme.

  • Redundancy-reliability allocation problems in multi-stage series-parallel systems are addressed in this study. Fuzzy programming techniques are proposed for finding satisfactory solutions. First, a multi-objective programming model is formulated for simultaneously maximizing system reliability and minimizing system total cost. Due to the nature of uncertainty in the problem, the fuzzy set theory and technique are used to convert the deterministic multi-objective programming model into a fuzzy nonlinear programming problem. A heuristic method is developed to get satisfactory solutions for the fuzzy nonlinear programming problem. A Pareto optimal solution is found with maximal degree of satisfaction from the interception area of fuzzy sets. A case study that is related to the electronic control unit installed on aircraft engine over-speed protection system is used to implement the developed approach. Results suggest that the developed fuzzy multi-objective programming model can effectively resolve the fuzzy and uncertain problem when design goals and constraints are not clearly confirmed at the initial conceptual design phase.

  • Recently industrial robots are often used together with positioners to enhance the system performance for arc welding. In this paper, the redundancy control method is proposed for the robot-positioner system which is modeled as one kinematic model of 7 degrees of freedom. Also, the manipulability measure based on the Jocobian matrix is utilized to visualize the distribution of manipulability in a given section of the working space. An algorithm for the manipulability maximazation in a given task is developed and applied to the robot and positioner system. The simulation results are given in the case of straight line following.

  • The foundation of information theory mainly established by C. E. Shannon , opened the way to profuse studies on the linguistics of various languages. The statistics of Korean letters composed of elements and space are analyzed. The Korean alphabetic elements including the space have their probabilities . And information techniques can be applied to them. This paper extended the previous statistics of Korean letters to include the space. We have also calculated the entropies and redundancy for the case. The result can be used to modify the evaluation of Korean letter information processing devices and used as the basis for letter coding method for eventual future information processors.

  • In this paper a new concept, named the Extended Operational Space Formulation, has been proposed for the effective analysis and real-time control of the robot manipulators with kinematic redundancy. The extended operational space consists of operational space and optimal null space. The operational space is used to describe robot end-effector motion; whereas the optimal null space, defined as the target space of the self motion manifold, is used to express the self motion for the secondary tasks. Based upon the proposed formulation, the kinematics, statics, and dynamics of redundant robots have been analyzed, and an efficient control algorithm has been proposed. Using this algorithm, one can optimize a performance measure while tracking a desired end-effector trajectory with a better computational efficiency than the conventional methods. The effective ness of the proposed method has been demonstrated with simulations.

  • In this paper, we deal with modeling and analysis for mobile manipulator systems. In order to avoid the difficulties occurring due to slippage or unevenness of the terrain, we propose the utilization of minimum actuators. In this case, the resulting systems typically possess kinematic redundancies which can be beneficially employed for correcting the position error. A simple PD control method along with kinematic redundancy is employed to recover position errors for trajectory control in task space. Several primary and secondary criteria utilizing kinematic redundancy of the mobile manipulator system are tested through graphic animation.

  • In this paper, the new timing optimization algorithm for combinational networks is proposed. First, we introduce the concept of P-path redundancy which is the extension of redundancy concept used in the testing of combinational networks. In this approach, the critical delay is minimized by removing the P-path redundant side inputs of the critical path, and more accurate timing optimization is possible by systematically considering the statically unsensitizable paths as well as the statically sensitizable paths. It's possible with all previous longest path based approaches that the critical delay of resulting network after timing optimization may be even increased. However, the proposed method guarantees to exclude such a possibility, and can be applied to optimize the timing of combinational networks in technology independent, and dependent phase.

  • Current paper represents the air data acquisition and processing algorithm which can acquire the air data such as velocity and angle of attack by measuring the static pressure on the specific locations of a high speed aerial vehicle. Unlike the previous air data acquisition system, current system applied several pre-determined data obtained from computational fluid dynamic approach having enough sensor redundancy and fault detection ability. The verification of current algorithm was done by commercial software Matlab and Simulink.
