  • Cryopreservation is a widely-used efficient means of long-term sperm preservation. However, unlike other types of semen, cryopreserved boar semen has reduced fertility and the efforts continue to optimize post-thawing sperm recovery. In this study, we evaluated the effects of various washing solutions (Hulsen solution, lab-made DPBS and commercial DPBS) on post-thawing porcine sperm kinematics (CASA system), viability (SYBR-14/PI) and acrosome integrity (PSA/FITC). We also examined the effect of washing-centrifugation on frozen-thawed semen kinematics. The results indicate that type of washing solution and post-thawing centrifugation alters parameters linked to sperm quality (total motility, progressive motility, viability and acrosome integrity). Significantly higher (p < 0.05) motility and progressive motility were obtained when cryopreserved semen was processed with Hulsen solution. The post-thaw percentage of live and intact acrosomal sperm was significantly higher in group 1 (Hulsen solution) as compared to other groups. Following thawing-centrifugation, the results showed significantly higher motility and progressive motility in group 1 than other groups. However, the latter two DPBS groups did not differ statistically. Taken together, Frozen-thawed spermatozoa motility, acrosome integrity and viability can be affected by the type of washing solution used. Moreover, centrifugation of frozen-thawed semen has an unfavorable effect on total motility and progressive motility.

  • Cerebral aneurysm coil embolization has the advantages of accurate, low patient burden, and fast recovery time, but efforts are needed to reduce dose due to the burden of exposure radiation dose during interventional procedures. In this study, the area dose product(DAP/Gy·cm2) and fluoro time(min) according to the size of the aneurysm and the location of aneurysm were investigated according to insurance recognition regulations aneurysm classification cerebral aneurysm coil embolization. According to the research method, classification according to the size and location of the aneurysm is first, the size of the aneurysm is divided into less than 4mm, more than 4mm to less than 8mm, and more than 8mm, and second, the dose to the area based on the location site (DAP/Gy·cm2) and fluoro time(min) based on the location site were observed. As a result, the location of the cerebral aneurysm procedure was found to be the Paraclinoid site. During cerebral aneurysm coil embolization, the area dose was 107 Gy·cm2 and fluoro time was 47.41 minutes, showing lower results than domestic studies, and when comparing the area dose product with foreign studies, the area dose product results were similar to that of Turkey and Saudi Arabia. It is expected that it can be used as an objective analysis indicator to establish diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) and patient radiation defense guidelines according to the size of cerebral aneurysm and location of cerebral aneurysm procedures during interventional procedures.

  • Purpose: This study investigated correlations between the actual sleep time 24 hours prior to an examination and the time to achieve chloral hydrate sedation in pediatric patients. Methods: With parental consent, 84 children who were placed under moderate or deep sedation with chloral hydrate for examinations from November 19, 2020 to July 9, 2022 were recruited. Results: Patients' average age was 19.9 months. Pediatric neurology patients and those who underwent electroencephalography took significantly longer to achieve sedation with chloral hydrate. There was a negative correlation between the time to achieve sedation and actual sleep time within 24 hours prior to the examination. Positive correlations were found between the actual sleep time 24 hours prior to the examination and the second dose per weight, as well as between the sedation recovery time and awake hours before the examination. Conclusion: Sleep restriction is not an effective adjuvant therapy for chloral hydrate sedation in children, and sedation effects vary according to pediatric patients' characteristics. Therefore, it would be possible to reduce the unnecessary efforts of caregivers who restrict children's sleep for examinations. It is more important to educate parents about safe sedation than about sleep restriction.

  • Recently, the frequency of earthquakes is rapidly increasing in Korea. As a result, concerns about earthquakes are increasing. Response and recovery in the event of an earthquake are also important, but it is necessary to identify management vulnerabilities in advance and perform prevention and preparation activities. K-water collects real-time earthquake data by operating an earthquake accelerator to manage facilities safe from earthquakes. In addition, real-time data is transmitted to external organizations. Therefore, various efforts are being made to improve the quality of data. In order to reduce the management vulnerability of the earthquake monitoring system in advance, high-quality data can be produced by minimizing the delay time of data collection and establishing a real-time quality analysis system and base for earthquake data using big data. Accordingly, it is expected to protect the lives and property of the people from earthquake disasters by securing dam safety management and high-quality earthquake data and providing rapid data to external institutions.

  • Even after testing negative for COVID-19, some patients continue to struggle with a variety of symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, gastrointestinal problems and neurological problems. The World Health Organization (WHO) defined long COVID (Post COVID-19 conditions) as "A disease occurs in individuals with a history of probable or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, usually 3 months from the onset of COVID-19 with symptoms that last for at least 2 months, that cannot be explained by an alternative diagnosis." As a possible pathological mechanism of long COVID, three hypotheses are proposed: the persistence of the infectious state due to the residual virus, the persistent inflammatory response, and the autoimmune response. The main symptoms of long COVID are shortness of breath (dyspnea), abdominal pain and dyspepsia, fatigue, cognitive problems (brain fog), anosmia and dysgeusia, and chest pain, palpitations and tachycardia. In the Chinese guidelines, COVID-19 patients were divided into mild, moderate, severe, and recovery, and prescriptions with effective therapeutic effects were summarized to encourage combined treatment of chinese and western medicine. Globally, only symptomatic therapy is recommended for long COVID, but a specific treatment has not yet been proposed. Recently, morbidity code for post COVID-19 conditions was created, and it is planned to announce guidelines for long COVID treatment and management in the first half of 2023. In line with this trend, the Korean medical community needs to make efforts to prepare treatment guidelines for patients with long COVID.

  • We aimed to verify the mediating effect of depression on the relationship between burnout and flourishing, and the moderated mediating effect of psychological detachment on the mediating relationship. An online survey was conducted with 300 workers, and the results are as follows. First, significant correlations are found among burnout, depression, flourishing, and psychological detachment. Second, the mediating effect of depression on the relationship between burnout and flourishing was verified. Third, the moderated mediating effect of psychological detachment on the mediating relationship verified. Considering the successive effects of burnout on depression and the loss of flourishing, the necessity of efficient management of burnout became evident. Moreover, the moderating role of psychological detachment implies that the effect of burnout can be reduced to some extent through individual and/or organizational efforts for psychological detachment. It seems necessary to verify the moderating effect in more detail through experimental research in the future.

  • The purpose of our study is to design datasets for Artificial Intelligence learning for cold sea fish farming. Salmon is considered one of the most popular fish species among men and women of all ages, but most supplies depend on imports. Recently, salmon farming, which is rapidly emerging as a specialized industry in Gangwon-do, has attracted attention. Therefore, in order to successfully develop salmon farming, the need to systematically build data related to salmon and salmon farming and use it to develop aquaculture techniques is raised. Meanwhile, the catch of pollack continues to decrease. Efforts should be made to improve the major factors affecting pollack survival based on data, as well as increasing the discharge volume for resource recovery. To this end, it is necessary to systematically collect and analyze data related to pollack catch and ecology to prepare a sustainable resource management strategy. Image data was obtained using CCTV and underwater cameras to establish an intelligent aquaculture strategy for salmon and pollock, which are considered representative fish species in Gangwon-do. Using these data, we built learning data suitable for AI analysis and prediction. Such data construction can be used to develop models for predicting the growth of salmon and pollack, and to develop algorithms for AI services that can predict water temperature, one of the key variables that determine the survival rate of pollack. This in turn will enable intelligent aquaculture and resource management taking into account the ecological characteristics of fish species. These studies look forward to achievements on an important level for sustainable fisheries and fisheries resource management.

  • This study aims to comprehensively assess the phenomenon of structural unemployment, with a specific emphasis on unemployment resulting from spatial mismatch, while also exploring potential solutions. Spatial mismatch unemployment presents a unique challenge distinct from unemployment stemming from demand deficient, thus requiring a more multifaceted approach beyond the efforts of individual businesses and national economic recovery policy. To underscore the importance of addressing spatial mismatch, this research seeks to quantify its contribution to overall unemployment. Additionally, we evaluate the effectiveness of local labor markets, a prominent mechanism for alleviating spatial mismatch, categorized by occupation, to assess their effectiveness for addressing this issue. Through this analysis, our study advocates for the development of comprehensive policies within the realm of job-related initiatives, including spatial alignment through inter-regional collaborations, in conjunction with region-specific policies and strategies for job creation.

  • This article aims to review the major problems of the present Korean management system of archaeology and to seek desirable suggestions in order to pursue the sustainable harmony between the recovery of academic excavations and economic development. In order to continue the sustainable harmony between preserving the values of archaeological resources as limited pure public goods and economic development, the present system of developer's payment for archaeology must be replaced by the introduction of the development fee for archaeology. The excavation of archaeological resources have been done according to the market principle, that is, the lower price principle. But the principle has produced a lot of serious problems in the Korean management system of archaeology, which must result in the market failure. So the governmental intervention is urgently required. By introducing the development fee, the archaeological field units and the developers can avoid direct contact. Instead, the Heritage Management Office will operate the excavation fund raised by the development fee for archaeology in order to avoid low-price contracts, degrading excavation quality, and other related residents' complaints and social conflicts in advance. In addition, the budget for purchasing the preserved excavation sites, which are the source of the landowners' enormous complaints, must be allocated to the Heritage Management Office by the Ministry of Planning and Finance. More budget for small-sized excavations must be allocated as well in order to solve many residents' complaints. These budget increase will be the fundamentals to decrease the residents' big complaints and social conflicts in relation with the archaeological management, which will be a challenge of the Korean government. Along with the governmental efforts, the archaeological field units must do their all-out efforts to overcome many problems in excavation including low-price contracts. Finally, the wage system and working status system must be revised. Excellent young excavators must be recruited appropriately and continue to work in a safe psychological condition, which are the basis to guarantee high-quality excavation.
