  • Background: Rapid population aging in developed countries has resulted in the working-age population increasingly being tasked with the provision of informal care. Methods: An educational intervention was delivered to 21 carer-employees employed at a Canadian University. Work role function, job security, schedule control, work-family conflict, familywork conflict, and supervisor and coworker support were measured as part of an aggregated workplace experience score. This score was used to measure changes pre/post intervention and at a follow-up period approximately 12 months post intervention. Three random intercept models were created via linear mixed modeling to illustrate changes in participants' workplace experience across time. Results: All three models reported statistically significant random and fixed effects intercepts, with a positive coefficient of change. Conclusion: This suggests that the intervention demonstrated an improvement of the workplace experience score for participants over time, with the association particularly strong immediately after intervention.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze relationships between compact city development and residents' shopping trips in Seoul. Compact city planning factors are classified into land use and traffic environment. The main data source used for this research is 2006 Household Travel Survey data, then a statistic analysis was carried out by applying random intercept logit model. Analysis shows that a high level of residential density increases residents' local shopping. Also, a high level of residential density and land use mix results in more uses of public transportation, bicycle and walking for shopping. Also, more access to public transportation leads to more use of public transportation for shopping. Therefore, compact city development will have a positive impact on activating the use of public transportation, bicycle and walking for shopping.

  • Urban household's interest in moving to rural area after retirement have been increasing. Most of them live in rural areal for the sake of pleasant natural environment such as fresh air, clean water. The purpose of the study is to analyse characteristics of them and factors affecting their decision. In 2010, about 27% of urban households wish to migrate to rural area after retirement. The results from the random intercept binary logit model implies that 40~50 age, less high-school graduate and middle-income households are more likely to move. And households are more concerned with residential environment-noise, air, water- than house condition. Also, more people have moved to rural in the region. more households wish to move. It implies that information about urban-to-rural migration and life in rural area affect people's positive attitude to move to rural after their retirement.

  • This paper identify factors of migration of employees' household who work for relocated public institutions. As a factors of migration, we consider individual and household characteristics, the gravity model of distance and population and so on. Considering discrete dependant variable and structure of data, we employ the logistic multilevel model and random intercept model. The result indicates employees' who are female, 30s and 40s, higher education level(PhD) and whose spouse are unemployed tend to transfer their residential registration to new city near relocated public institution. Regarding regional variable, the distance from employee's previous residential location and number of migration of prior year are statistically significant. Also the model indicate regional economy, educational and residential environment of new city influence employee's decision for transferring residential registration.

  • The domination of the Internet by TCP-based services has spawned many efforts to provide high network utilization with low loss and delay in a simple and scalable manner. Active queue management (AQM) algorithms attempt to achieve these goals by regulating queues at bottleneck links to provide useful feedback to TCP sources. While many AQM algorithms have been proposed, most suffer from instability, require careful configuration of nonintuitive control parameters, or are not practical because of slow response to dynamic traffic changes. In this paper, we propose a new AQM algorithm, hybrid random early detection (HRED), that combines the more effective elements of recent algorithms with a random early detection (RED) core. HRED maps instantaneous queue length to a drop probability, automatically adjusting the slope and intercept of the mapping function to account for changes in traffic load and to keep queue length within the desired operating range. We demonstrate that straightforward selection of HRED parameters results in stable operation under steady load and rapid adaptation to changes in load. Simulation and implementation tests confirm this stability, and indicate that overall performances of HRED are substantially better than those of earlier AQM algorithms. Finally, HRED control parameters provide several intuitive approaches to trading between required memory, queue stability, and response time.

  • The central composite design (CCD) is often used to estimate the second-order linear model. This paper uses a correlation induction strategy of common random numbers (CRN) in simulation experiment and utilizes the induced correlations to obtain better estimates for the second-order linear model. This strategy assigns the CRN to all design points in the CCD. An appropriate selection of the axial points in CCD makes the weighted least squares (WLS) estimator be equivalent to ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator in estimating the linear model parameters of CCD. We analytically investigate the efficiency of this strategy in estimation of model parameters. Under certain conditions, this correlation induction strategy yields better results than independent random number strategy in estimating model parameters except intercept. The simulation experiment on a selected model supports such results. We expect a suggested random number assignment is useful in application of CCD in simulation experiments.

  • Purpose: To investigate a correlation between vertical fixation disparity and stereopsis by analyzing distribution of types of vertical fixation disparity. Methods: In this study, RANDOT(R) stereotest partly using random dot was used in stereopsis tests. The vertical fixation disparity in close proximity categorized fixation disparity slope into six types on the basis of the result of measurement in when two thin lines, one for one eye looks, become overlapped as a line by adding into prism with Wesson fixation disparity card while maintaining a distance of 25 cm from patients. Results: In the types of near vertical fixation disparity curve, targeting 43 people, the first type 55.82% was the most distributed, the second type is the least 23.25%, the third type of 4.65%, the fourth type of 4.65%, the fifth type of 6.98%, the sixths types of 4.65% were distributed. The result of a correlation analysis, which shows the degree of linear correlation between two variables, represented that stereopsis is not correlated with Y-intercept (r = -0.07) which show vertical fixation disparity, associated phoria (r = -0.03) and dissociated phoria (r = -0.00), but it was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Fixation disparity slope of vertical fixation disparity (r = 0.36) was shown to have a positive correlation with stereopsis. It has a low positive correlation and a meaningful statistics (p<0.05). The Y-intercept which indicates vertical fixation disparity was also not associated with stereopsis (r = -0.07) and dissociated phoria (r = -0.03), and this was not statistically significant (p>0.05), while it had a high correlation as well as a statistically significant with associated phoria (r = 0.89). There was a negative correlation between Y-intercept and fixation disparity slope of vertical fixation disparity (r = -0.33). It showed a low relationship but statistically valuable (p>0.05). As a result of regression analysis, the stereopsis was changed as 7.631" if vertical fixation disparity changes 1' and the vertical fixation disparity changed as 0.017' if stereopsis changes 1', and the change was statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusions: The study shows that there is a low correlation between stereopsis and vertical fixation disparity, and it is difficult to determine stereopsis only using vertical fixation disparity. Therefore, it suggests other factors above vertical fixation disparity have greater influence on stereopsis.
