  • The dynamic responses of a PSC bridge for automated guide-way transit system are investigated by analytical approach of bridge-vehicle interaction. In this study, the dynamic responses, concerned with a spall on the surface of bridge are emphasized. A simply supported pre-stressed concrete bridge is adopted as a numerical example. Dynamics of three-dimensional dynamic interaction system between bridges and vehicles is considered in this study. The FE method and modal analysis is used for modeling a bridge for dynamic response analysis. An AGT vehicle is idealized as a model with 11DOFs including lateral motion. It was found that the dynamic responses of bridge can be affected by a spall of surface. Especially, the vibrations are increased much more when a spall is exist.

  • Maglev vehicles, which are levitated and propelled by electromagnets, often run on elevated guideways comprised of steel, aluminum and concrete. Therefore, an analysis of the dynamic interaction between the Maglev vehicle and the guideway is needed in the design of the critical speed, ride, controller design and weight reduction of the guideway. This study introduces a dynamic interaction simulation technique that applies FEM. The proposed method uses FEM to model the elevated guideway and the Maglev vehicle, which is different from conventional studies. Because the proposed method uses FEM, it is useful to calculate the deformation of the elevated guideway, the dynamic stress, and the motion of the vehicle. By applying the proposed method to an urban transit Maglev vehicle, UTM01, the dynamic response is simulated according to velocity increase and can be reviewed again. From the result of the study, we concluded that FEM simulation of the dynamic interaction between the maglev vehicle and the guideway is possible.

  • There are two methodologies to increase transport capacity of railway. The one is to invest railroad equipment or vehicles, and the other is to improve operation efficiency through optimization. All of these is intended to increase transport capacity by improving line capacity So far, we treat line capacity as the criteria for evaluating investment alternatives or for restricting tram frequencies, and this criteria is calculated statical and experimental numerical formula. But, line capacity has special attribute that change dynamically according to operational condition, so there is a need of new line capacity estimation system. The Purpose of this paper is to present a new line capacity estimation system based on the probability simulation and its applications.

  • 본 논문에서는 철도차량용 25kW급 배터리 충전기 개발에 대해 설명한다. 열차 판넬 및 제어용 전원으로 사용되는 배터리 전원을 사용한다. 이를 상시 충전하기 위한 충전기는 기존에 보조전원장치의 3상 380V를 받아 강압 변압기를 사용하여 다이오드 정류 혹은 싸이리스터를 사용하였다. 하지만, 기존방식은 강압 변압기가 60Hz의 낮은 주파수로 인하여 사이즈 및 중량 증대를 유발 한다. 이에 본 논문에서는 가선의 높은 전압을 받아 공진형 컨버터를 사용하여 주파수를 높여 변압기의 사이즈 및 중량을 감소 하였으며, 안정적인 전원을 공급 하는 배터리 충전기를 개발 하였다. 이를 25kW급 시제품에 대한 시뮬레이션을 통해 입증 하였다.

  • It is one of the most effective methods for improving the performance of electric railway vehicles to make better the wheel-rail adhesion characteristics. To study adhesion characteristic is to develop the equivalent reduction machine to experiment on the adhesion system. The experiment system makes it possible to change the wheel-rail adhesion force with various adhesion parameters, and therewith to test the adhesion control system with the reduction machine in a laboratory. In this paper, for improving adhesion performance shows actually control methods.

  • Frictional heat generates when the brake shoes are in contact with wheel tread under high pressure for EMU's speed control, stopping, and deceleration. Such a frictional heat has a significant effect on the wheel tread. In order to analyze the characteristics of frictional heat and measure the amount of the generated heat, tests by using a brake dynamometer and for running vehicles are carried out. In addition, finite element analysis is performed to simulate the temperature distribution and thermal analysis of the brake shoes. Through the tests and the simulations, it is found that the problems by temperature increase at tread braking are verified.

Therefore. an analysis of the dynamic interaction between the Maglev vehicle and the flexible guideway is needed in the design of the critical speed, ride, controler design and weight reduction of the vehicle. This study introduces a dynamic interaction simulation technique that applies structural dynamics. Because the proposed method uses FEM, it is useful to calculate the deformation of the elevated flexible guideway, the dynamic stress, and the motion of the vehicle. By applying the proposed method to an urban transit Maglev vehicle, UTM01, the dynamic response is simulated and validated. From the result of the study, we concluded, that the dynamic interaction between the maglev vehicle and the flexible guideway is possible.

  • We have evaluated the structural integrity of a sandwich composite train roof which can find a lightweight, cost saving solution to large structural components for rail vehicles in design stages. The sandwich composite train roof was 11.45 meter long and 1.76 meter wide. The reinforced frame was inserted in sandwich panels to improve the structural performance of train roof structure and had the shape of hollow rectangular box. The finite-element analysis was used to calculate the stresses, deflections and natural frequencies of the sandwich composite train roof against the weight of air-condition system. The 3D sandwich FE model was introduced to simulate the hollow aluminum frames which jointed to both sides of the sandwich train roof. The results shown that the structural performance of a sandwich composite train roof under load conditions specified was proven and the use of aluminum reinforced frame was beneficial with regard to weight savings in comparison to steel reinforced frame.

  • Kinds of Sound & Thermal Insulator are being used for materials of railroad vehicles as a barrier of beat and noise. Glass Wool, PE foam, PP foam are such kinds of materials. In case of fire, it shows various combustion properties. In this study, we compared the Smoke Density of the Rubber Foam Insulator by test between Cone-Calorimeter and Smoke Density-Chamber. The results showed that the Rubber Foam Insulator had an important role in the insulator thickness and the test method, We forecast the smoke density by test between Cone-Calorimeter and Smoke Density-Chamber.

  • In recent years, efficient commuter transportation has become one of major issues to be taken into account around Seoul metropolitan area. In oder to solve the problems, several countries such as Japan, France and so on gradually operate double deck trains as efficient, reliable and comfortable mass transportation systems. However, the double deck trains have relatively big cross sectional areas and high mass centers that cause unsafe vehicle running performances and interface problems between the vehicles and infrastructures, and do not have enough spaces for electric equipments. Therefore, prior to operate double deck trains on the existing lines in Korea, careful investigations should be performed. For these reasons, we have studied the double deck train system for the existing lines around Seoul metropolitan area as an alternative way to carry heavy transportation efficiently and comfortably.
