Influence of Quaternization on UCST Properties of Hydroxyl-Derivatized Polymers

  • A series of hydroxyl-derivatized quaternized polymers were successfully synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and Cu(I)-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azide and alkynes (click chemistry), followed by quaternization reactions. ATRP was employed to synthesize poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA), followed by introduction of alkyne groups using pentynoic acid, leading to HEMA-Alkyne. 2-Azido-1-ethanol and 3-azido-1-propanol were combined with the HEMA-Alkyne backbone via click reaction, resulting in triazole-ring containing hydroxyl-derivatized polymers. Quaternization reactions with methyl iodide were conducted on the triazole ring of each polymer. Molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and the degree of quaternization (DQ) were determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy. The average molecular weight ($M_n$) of the resulting polymers ranged from $5.9{\times}10^4$ to $1.05{\times}10^5g/mol$ depending on the molecular architecture. The molecular weight distribution was low ($M_w/M_n$ = 1.26-1.38). The transmission spectra of the 0.1 wt % aqueous solutions of the resulting quaternized polymers at 650 nm were measured as a function of temperature. Results showed that the upper critical solution temperature (UCST) could be finely controlled by the level of DQ.

  • Polytetramethylene ether glycol(PTMG)와 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate(MDI), tol-uene 2,4-diisocyanate (TDI), isophoron diisocyanate(IPDI)로 polyurethane(PU) prepolymer를 합성, n-methyl-diethanol amine(n-MDEA)로 쇄연장시킨 후 glycolic acid(GA)로 quaternization시켜서 안정한 수분산성의 양이온성 폴리우레탄을 제조하였다. 양이온성 폴리우레탄의 합성과정에서 쇄연장제의 함량과 quaternization에 따른 에멀젼의 유화안정성, 접착강도, 점도, 유리전이온도 및 cast film의 물리적 성질을 UTM, Viscometer와 DSC를 사용하여 검토하였다.

  • 페나실 치환 벤젠술포네이트류와 피리딘의 반응속도를 아세토니트릴과 메탄올 용매속에서 각각 35, 45, 그리고 $55^{\circ}C$에서 전기전도도법으로 측정하였다. 이탈기 내의 치환기 효과는 치환기의 전자끌기 능력이 클수록 반응이 빨라지므로써 이탈기의 이탈 능력이 반응속도에 직접 영향을 미쳤다. 또한 양성자성 용매인 메탄올과 비양성자성 용매인 아세토니트릴에서의 반응을 비교한 결과 수소결합을 통한 특성 용매화가 작용되고 있음을 알수 있었다. 그러므로 이 반응에서 피리딘이 기질의 카르보닐기에 속도 결정 단계로 첨가되는 메카니즘을 배제시킬수 있었다

Well-Defined Thermoresponsive Copolymers with Tunable LCST and UCST in Water

  • A thermoresponsive polymer, poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA), was successfully synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Different amounts of 1,3-propanesultone were used as quaternization agent to transit the PDMAEMA into partially modified poly(zwitterions), resulting in p[DMAEMA-co-3-dimethyl(methacryloyloxyethyl)ammonium propanesulfonate] (PDMAEMA-co-PDMAPS). Molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and degree of quarternization were determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The transmission spectra of the 1.0 wt % aqueous solutions of the resulting polymers at 650 nm were measured as a function of temperature. Results showed that the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) and the upper critical solution temperature (UCST) could be easily controlled by the different composition of dimethylamino and zwitterion groups. The effect of partial quaternization on thermoresponsive properties was also studied by dynamic light scattering (DLS) with the same aqueous concentration (1.0 wt %) as employed for turbidimetry studies. The LCST and UCST values measured by DLS correlated well with those determined by turbidimetry.

Quaternized Polyamidoamine Dendrimers as Novel Gene Delivery System: Relationship between Degree of Quaternization and Their Influences

  • Quaternary ammonium groups were introduced to Starburst polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers for a gene carrier. These quaternary dendritic carriers exhibited reduced cytotoxicity on 293T cells compared to parent dendrimers examined and their transfection efficiency were similar with parent dendrimers. Quaternization could be a promising tool to improve properties of dendrimers as a gene delivery carrier.

  • 본 연구에서는 수중 질산성 질소($NO{_3}^-$) 제거용 음이온교환막 제조를 위하여 poly(vinylimidazole-co-trifluoroethylmethacrylate-co-divinylbenzene)(PVTD) 공중합체를 제조하고, quaternization 반응을 통하여 관능기를 도입하기 위한 최적화 반응온도, 반응시간, 관능화농도 조건을 규명하였다. 제조한 음이온교환막의 구조 확인과 분자량 측정을 위하여 FTIR, $^1H$ NMR, 스펙트럼 분석과 GPC 분석을 하였다. 또한 제조한 음이온교환막의 함수율, 팽윤율, 전기저항, 이온교환용량과 같은 기본물성을 측정하였다. 또한 수중 질산염 제거율과 선택성을 확인하기 위하여 막의 음이온 투과성을 측정하여 질산성 질소의 선택성을 확인하였다. 최적 함수율, 전기저항, 이온교환용량은 각각 51.2%, $5.4{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, 1.04 meq/g으로 측정되었다.

  • Various structural analogs of higenamine, 1-(4'-hydroxylbenzyl)-6,7-dihydroxy-1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydroisoquinoline, were synthesized and their inhibitory activities against platelet aggregation induced by either arachidonic acid, ADP or collagen. Among the twenty-five compounds tested, inhibitory activity is favored by the 3, 4-dihydroisoquinoline system with the methyl bridge between the two aromatic rings replaced by either ethyl or ethenyl group.   • 1,2,4-Triazine 유도체들을 acetone 용매하에서 methyl iodide와 반응시켜 다양한 1-methyl-1,2,4-triazinium iodide 염을 합성하였다. 또한 이들 염을 10% NaOH 수용액 내에서 $K_3Fe(CN)_6$로 산화시킨 결과 고리 축소화반응이 일어나 1-methyl-1,2,4-triazole 유도체를 주로 얻을 수 있었으나 $C_6$에 치환기가 없을 경우는 미량이긴 하지만 1,6-dihydro-6-oxo-1,2,4-triazine 유도체도 동시에 얻을 수 있었다. 고리 축소화반응은 $OH^-$에 의해 먼저 pseudo base를 형성하고 이 Pseudo base가 1-methyl-1,2,4-triazole과 1,6-dihydro-6-oxo-1,2,4-triazine으로 진행됨을 확인할 수 있었고 또한 1,2,4-triazine의 3개의 질소원자 중 $N_1$ 원자에 quaternization됨을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Dodecanoic acid와 tetraethylenepentamine을 반응시켜서 1, 2-disubstituted imidazoline을 얻었고, 이것을 양이온화시켜 유화형 1, 2-disubstituted imidazolinium salt를 합성하였다. 또한 docosanoic acid와 hydroxyethylethylenediamine을 반응시켜 중간생성물인 2-docosamido-2'-docosanoyloxydiethylamine을 얻었고, 다시 우레아와 반응시켜서 지방산 카르바미드를 얻었다. 이것을 역시 양이온화시켜 유화형 지방산카르바미드염을 합성하였다. 합성된 각종 염들을 블렌딩시켜 유연제를 제조한 후, 아크릴섬유에 유연처리를 하여 유연성, 평활성 및 대전방지성을 측정한 결과, 유연성과 평활성이 양호하였고 약간의 대전방지성도 보유하였다. 또한 강연도시험과 pH변화에 따른 촉감의 내세탁성 시험결과를 통하여 제조된 유연제가 내구성 유연제임을 입증하였으며, SEM으로 유연처리된 아크릴섬유의 표면구조를 관찰하였다.

  • A series of new, vinyl sulfone-containing monomers was prepared by p-aminophenyl vinyl sulfone (1) with various acid chlorides such as adipoly chloride, terephthaloyl chloride and isophthaloyl chloride. Finally, tertiary amine-containing poly(amide-sulfone)s were prepared by the Michael-type addition polymerization using N,N-dimethylethylenediamine (DMEDA), p-phenylenediamine and piperazin. To evaluate the relevant properties for permselective membranes and enzyme substrate, various physical properties such as molecular weight, solubility, quaternization behavior and thermal properties were examined.
