Nickel ferrite ($NiFe_2O_4$) powder was prepared through the ceramic route by calcination of a stoichiometric mixture of nickel oxide (NiO) and iron oxide ($Fe_2O_3$). The pressed pellets of $NiFe_2O_4$ were isothermally reduced in pure hydrogen at 800, 900, 1000 and $1100^{\circ}C$. Based on thermogravimetric analysis, the reduction behavior and the kinetic reaction mechanisms of the synthesized ferrite were studied. The initial ferrite powder and various reduction products were characterized by XRD, SEM, reflected light microscope and VSM to reveal the effect of hydrogen reduction on the composition, microstructure, magnetic properties and reaction kinetics of the produced Fe-Ni alloy. Complete reduction of the $NiFe_2O_4$ was achieved with synthesis of homogeneous nanocrystalline Fe-Ni alloys. Arrhenius equation with the approved mathematical formulations for a gas-solid reaction was applied for calculating the activation energy ($E_a$) values and detecting the controlling reaction mechanism.
In this work, the electrical explosion of wire in liquid and subsequent spark plasma sintering (SPS) was introduced for the fabrication of Ni-graphite nanocomposites. The fabricated composite exhibited good enhancements in mechanical properties, such as yield strength and hardness, but reduced the ductility in comparison with that of nickel. The as-synthesized Ni-graphite (5 vol.% graphite) nanocomposite exhibited a compressive yield strength of 275 MPa (about 1.6 times of SPS-processed monolithic nickel ~170 MPa) and elongation to failure ~22%. The hardness of Ni-graphite composite had a value of 135.46 HV, which is about 1.3 times higher than that of pure SPS-processed Ni (105.675 HV). In terms of processing, this work demonstrated that this processing route is a novel, simple, and low-cost method for the synthesis of nickel-graphite composites.
The pure Ti, Ni and carbon powders were reaction milled to synthesize the TiC-Ni based cermet powders with ultrafine microstructures. After milling, the ultrafine TiC or amorphous Ti-Ni phase was obtained, respectively, according to the milling condition. The effects of milling variables on the synthesizing behavior of the powders were investigated in detail. The sintered TiC-Ni based cermet of the reaction milled powders consisted of very fine TiC of 0.2~1.5$\mu$m, as compared with that of a commercial cermet of 3~5$\mu$m. This demonstrates the potenial of reaction milling as an effective processing route for the preparation of cermet materials.
The sulfidation behavior of a sputter-deposited amorphous coating of 69.0%Nb-16.9Ni-11.9%Al-2.2%Si (at.%) has been investigated as a funtion of temperature.(973-1173K) in pure sulfur pressure of 0.01atm. The sulfidation kinetics of the casting obyed the parabolic rate low over the whole temperature ranges studied. The stlfidation rate increased with the temperature, as expected. The sulfide scale, the composition of which was $Al_2S_3,\;NbS_2,\;Ni_{3-x}S_2\;and\;FeCrS_4$, formed on the amorphous coating was primarily bilayered. Both the outer fastgrowing non-protective 4Al_2S_3$scale and the inner slowly-growing protective $NbS_2$,/TEX> scale and the inner slowly-growing protective $NbS_2$ scale had some Fe and Cr dissolution, which evidently came from the base substrate alloy of stainless steel type 304. Belows the coating, Kirkendall void formation was noticed. Nevertheless, a dramatic improvement of sulfidation resistance was achieved by sputter-depositing Nb-2 Ni-Al-Si layer on the stainless steel 304.
Samples with the nominal composition of $Co_{9-x}M_xS_8$(M = Ni, Rh, Ru, and Fe) were prepared, and their magnetic properties were measured. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that small amount of the elements Ni, Rh, and Fe could be incorporated into $Co_9S_8$ forming a homogeneous ${\pi}$-phase, whereas the Ru-incorporated sample could not be prepared in a single phase. The lattice parameter was observed to increase as other elements were incorporated into $Co_9S_8$. Samples incorporated with the elements of Ni, Rh, and Ru showed Pauli-paramagnetism while the Fe-incorporated sample exhibited weak ferromagnetism. The values of magnetic susceptibility for the Ni, Rh, Ru-incorporated samples were nearly the same as that of pure $Co_9S_8$.
In this paper, Ni Germanosilicide using Ni-Ta/Co/TiN is proposed to improve thermal stability. The sheet resistance of Ni Germanosilicide utilizing pure Ni increased dramatically after the post-silicidation annealing at $600^{\circ}C$ for 30min. However, using the proposed Ni-Ta/Co/TiN structure, low temperature silicidation and wide range of RTP process window were achieved.
Shaped charge(SC) ammunition is a weapon that penetrates directly the target by made jet from metal liner on impacting at a target. In SC, the liner occupies significantly important role causing an explosion and penetration of the target. The Al-Ni composite coating was deposited on copper liner in a solid state via kinetic spraying to improve the explosive force. The mechanical properties, reactivity and microstructure were investigated to confirm the possibility of kinetic sprayed Al/Ni composite coating as a reactive liner material. Reactive liner using Al/Ni composite exhibited much enhanced reactivity than pure copper liner due to Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) reaction with significantly improved adhesive bond strength. Especially, among the Al/Ni composite coatings, AN11 (the Al versus Ni atomic percent ratio is 1:1) showed the greatest reactivity due to its widest reaction area between deposited Al and Ni.
NiO-AZO films were deposited on glass substrate by DC and RF magnetron co-sputtering system in pure $O_2$ gas without substrate heating during deposition. In order to control the chemical composition of the film, NiO target was supplied with constant RF power of 150 W and AZO target (doped with 2.98 at% aluminum) with DC power varied between 40 W to 80 W. Deposited NiO-AZO films were evaluated by structural and chemical analysis. With introducing AZO, XRD and XPS data reveal that NiO were supplied with more oxygen. these results could be strongly affected by the higher bond enthalpy of NiO compared to ZnO, which makes it possible for NiO to obtain excessive oxygen from ZnO.

Activated carbon-nickel (II) oxide (AC-NiO) electrodes were studied as materials for the capacitive deionization (CDI) of aqueous sodium chloride solution. AC-NiO electrodes were fabricated through physical mixing and low-temperature heating of precursor materials. The amount of NiO in the electrodes was varied and its effect on the deionization performance was investigated using a single-pass mode CDI setup. The pure activated carbon electrode showed the highest specific surface area among the electrodes. However, the AC-NiO electrode with approximately 10 and 20% of NiO displayed better deionization performance. The addition of a dielectric material like NiO to the carbon material resulted in the enhancement of the electric field, which eventually led to an improved deionization performance. Among all as-prepared electrodes, the AC-NiO electrode with approximately 10% of NiO gave the highest salt adsorption capacity and charge efficiency, which are equal to 7.46 mg/g and 90.1%, respectively. This finding can be attributed to the optimum enhancement of the physical and chemical characteristics of the electrode brought by the addition of the appropriate amount of NiO.
Chemical poisoning of Ni/MgO catalyst was induced by hot alkali carbonate vapor in molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC), and the poisoned (or contaminated) catalyst was characterized by TPR/TPO, FTIR, and XRD analysis. Carbonate electrolytes such as K and Li were transferred to the catalyst during DIR-MCFC operation at 650 ℃. The deposition of alkali species on the catalyst consequently led to physical blocking on catalytic active sites and structural deformation by chemical poisoning. TPR/TPO analysis indicated that K species enhanced the reducibility of NiO thin film over Ni as co-catalyst, and Li species lessened the reducibility of metallic Ni by chemical reaction with MgO. FTIR analysis of the poisoned catalyst did not exhibit the characteristic ${\vector}_1$$(D_{3h})$ peaks (1055 $cm^{-1},\;1085\;cm{-1})$ for pure crystalline carbonates, instead a new peak (1120 $cm^{-1})$ was observed proportionally with deformed alkali carbonates. From XRD analysis, the oxidation of metallic Ni into $Ni_xMg_{1-x}O$ was confirmed by the peak shift of MgO with shrinking of Ni particles. Conclusively, hot alkali species induced both chemical poisoning and physical deposition on Ni/MgO catalyst in DIR-MCFC at 650 ℃.
