  • Although ship's draught information onboard is substantial for both the safety of navigation and the estimation of loaded cargoes, its accuracy depends, in conventional surveying method, on the skillfulness of observers and the condition of the sea surface round the vessel. To obtain more accurate information accessibly, measuring instruments with sophisticated sensors such as mechanical, electronic and ultrasonic transducers have been developed. However, they have still limitation in accuracy and in making up a system due to the complexity of processing signal. In this paper, we propose a new technique for analyzing ultrasonic pulse signal, in order to improve the measurement accuracy and simplify a remote sensing system of draught by ultrasonic waves. In this technique, pulse signal is translated into phase curve which is composed of the phase value defined in time domain. Then, the time interval between two signals different in waveform, is waveform, is analytically determined by calculating average time difference on phase curves. Also, analytical procedure can be carried out in real time with the successive five data sampled at T/4, for high speed digital processing with computer and A/D converter. This technique is useful for measuring draught under the influence of sea condition and for interfacing its data briefly to the integrated bridge system.

  • We propose a selective detection scheme based on pulse repetition considering the BER (Bit Error Rate) performance and complexity of coherent IR-UWB (Impulse Radio-Ultra Wide Band) systems. To take system complexity into account, the proposed scheme transmits the UWB signals by pulse repetition at the transmitter, like conventional PRC (Pulse Repetition Coding). However, to effectively improve BER performance of the system, the proposed scheme performs selective detection by estimating the SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) of the received pulse-repeated signal at the UWB receiver. Hence, the proposed scheme effectively improves BER performance of the coherent IR-UWB systems without increasing system complexity, as compared to the conventional PRC algorithm.

  • Nitzberg has analyzed the detection performance of the clutter map constant false alarm rate (CFAR) detector using single pulse. In this paper, we extend the detection analysis to the clutter map CFAR detector that employs M-pulse noncoherent integration. Detection and false alarm probabilities for Swerling target models are derived. The analytical results show that the larger the number of integrated pulses M, the higher the detection probability. On the other hand, the analytical results for Swerling target models show that the detection performance of the completely decorrelated target signal is better than that of the completely correlated target.

  • An optical device, named "T-MES", to measure the accuracy of printed scale of measuring tapes was developed. It has 11 optical sensors, that are exactly positioned every 100 mm on the 1 m frame. The sensors detect the beginning of the printed part and generate the puleses. The time difference between each signal pulse and the first sensor signal pulse is proportional to the error of printed scale. The measured data are trasmitted through a IEEE-488 interface to a IBM-AT computer and analyzed. The analysis software continuously displays the measured result on the CRT.n the CRT.

  • Applying a higher frequency periodic control signal, a state of a chaotic pulse-train generator is quantized. The circuit has various co-existing super-stable periodic pulse-trains (ab. SSPTs) and generates one of them depending on the initial state. Also correlation characteristics of the SSPTs are analyzed precisely. We then consider application of the SSPTs to spread sequences of CDMA with pulse-train signals.

  • In the environment where various and complicated threat signals exist, RWR (Radar Warning Receiver), which can warn pilot of the existence of threats, has long been a necessary electronic warfare (EW) system to improve survivability of aircraft. The angle of arrival (AOA) information, the most reliable sorting parameter in the RWR, is measured by means of four-quadrant amplitude comparison direction finding (DF) technique. Each of four antennas (usually spiral antenna) of DF unit covers one of four quadrant zones, with 90 degrees apart with nearby antenna. According to the location of antenna installed in helicopter, RWR is subject to signal loss and interference by helicopter body and structures including tail bumper, rotor blade, and so on, causing a difficulty of detecting hostile emitters. In this paper, the performance degradation caused by signal interference by tail rotor blades has been estimated by measuring amplitude video signals into which RWR converts RF signals in case a part of antenna is screened by real tail rotor blade in anechoic chamber. The results show that corruption of pulse amplitude (PA) is main cause of DF error. We have proposed two algorithms for resolving the interference by tail rotor blades as below: First, expand the AOA group range for pulse grouping at the first signal analysis phase. Second, merge each of pulse trains with the other, that signal parameter except PRI and AOA is similar, after the first signal analysis phase. The presented method makes it possible to use RWR by reducing interference caused by blade screening in case antenna is screened by tail rotor blades.

  • Radar systems are divided into the pulse Doppler (PD) radar and the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar depending on the transmission waveform. In particular, the PD radar is advantageous for long-range target detection, and the FMCW radar is suitable for short-range target detection. In this paper, we present design and implementation results for a multi-mode radar signal processor (RSP) that can support both PD and FMCW radar systems to detect unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at short distances as well as long distances. The proposed radar signal processor can be implemented based on Altera Cyclone-IV FPGA with 19,623 logic elements, 9,759 registers, and 25,190,400 memory bits. The logic elements and registers of the proposed radar signal processor are reduced by approximately 43% and 30%, respectively, compared to the sum of logic elements and registers of the conventional PD radar and FMCW radar signal processor.

  • In this paper, the low price signal generator with capability of frequency high-resolution and variable sync pulse has implemented. It fulfils well the requirements for SS-OCT of the frequency resolution less than 1Hz, frequency stability of ${\leq}{\pm}0.5Hz$/10 min and variable sync pulse output timing. Through its performance test applied to wavelength swept laser, 120 nm sweeping range and 10 mW average optical power were obtained. This shows that the realized sine-wave generator can replace the commercial high cost and high performance signal generators employed by current SS-OCT systems.

  • In this paper, the superposition of ultrasonic signals which were generated by multi-source in a transformer was presented. For analysis of ultrasonic superposition, V$_{peak-peak}$ and pulse number of ultra-sonic signal were used. As a result, the wave form of ultrasonic superposition was classified into three types ; First type was the wave form whose V$_{peak-peak}$ was increased by the superposition of each signal's V$_{peak-peak}$. Second type was wave form whose V$_{peak-peak}$ was decreased by the superposition of each signal's V$_{peak-peak}$. And the other type was wave form whose peals were two or mere. And V$_{peak-peak}$ of superposed ultrasonic wave wads mostlv increased or decreased and pulse number of supe게osed u1trasonic wave was mostly increased.y increased.
