  • A single-phase step-up five-level inverter topology with a new phase-shifted pulse width modulation (PS-PWM) strategy is proposed in this paper. When compared with conventional single-phase five-level inverter topologies, the proposed topology can realize multilevel inversion with a double step-up ratio, a reduced number of switching devices and self-balanced capacitor voltages. When compared with the conventional PS-PWM strategy, the new PS-PWM strategy can be implemented with one carrier reduced, which makes it much easier to implement in a digital signal processor (DSP) system. Experimental results have been presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed inverter and the PS-PWM strategy.

  • In this paper, RFRPP(Random Frequency Randomized Pulse Position ) PWM for three-phase voltage-controlled inverters is proposed. The LLPWM(Lead-Lag PWM) techinquc is that three switching pulses are located randomly back and forth in each switching interval. But with the restriction of random distribution, the harmonic spectrum cannot be dispersedly and continuously distributed. This paper calculates the duty ratio of the switching pulse firstly. Second, the switching pulses are located randomly in the switching interval. Third, the fixed switching frequency of the space vector modulation is randomly varied. To verify the validity of the proposed technique, simulation study is tried using Matlab/Simulink. When a proposed techniquc is employed, the harmonic spectrum of the inverter output voltagc varies from one cycle to the next and the EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) and resonant vibration are greatly alleviated.

  • From the dispersion relation of an electromagnetic (EM) wave propagating through plasmas, w$\^$2/ = w$\sub$p/$\^$2/+c$\^$2/k$\^$2/ the phase velocity (w/k) of the wave is large at high density where w$\sub$p/ is large, and small at low density Therefore, when a laser pulse is located on a downward density gradient of a plasma wave, the phase velocity of the back of the pulse becomes faster than that of the front of the pulse and the pulse wavelength decreases. • In this work, highly uniform size-controlled $Cu_2O$ nanocubes can be successfully formed by means of pulse electrodeposition. The size distribution, crystal structure, and chemical state of deposited $Cu_2O$ nanocubes are characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The phase transition from $Cu_2O$ to Cu can be controlled by constant current electrodeposition as a function of deposition time. In particular, the size of the $Cu_2O$ nanocubes can be controlled using pulse electrodeposition as a function of applied current density.

  • An error-compensated pulse width modulator (ECPWM) is proposed to improve the baseband harmonic performance and the switching loss of voltage source inverters (VSIs). Selecting between harmonic distortion and switching loss is a design tradeoff in the conventional space vector pulse width modulation. In this work, an accumulated difference in produced and desired phase voltages is considered to adjust the reference signal. This mechanism can compensate for the voltage error in the previous carrier period. With error compensation every half-carrier period, the proposed ECPWM allows one-half reduction in carrier frequency without scarifying baseband harmonic distortion. The proposed modulator is applied to a three-phase VSI with R-L load and a motor-speed-control system for experiments. The measured efficiency and operating temperature of switches confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • The existing 24-pulse autotransformer rectifier unit (ATRU) needs interphase reactors for parallel work of the rectifier bridges, and its output voltage cannot be regulated. Aiming at these problems, a step-up and step-down asymmetrical 24-pulse ATRU is proposed in this paper. The connections and turns ratios among transformer windings are well designed. In addition, a 15-degree phase difference is formed between two of the 24 voltage vectors produced by the transformer, which makes the four rectifier bridge groups produce a 24-pulse DC voltage without interphase reactors. Meanwhile, by adding extended winding to each phase of the transformer, wide-range regulation of the ATRU output voltage can be realized, and the reasonable voltage regulation range is between 0.2 and 1.6. The superposition of the voltage vectors and the principle of the voltage regulation are analyzed in detail. Furthermore, the turns ratio of the windings, winding current, output voltage, and kilovolt-ampere rating are all derived. Finally, the simulations and experiments are carried out, and the correctness of the principle and theoretical analysis of the new 24-pulse ATRU are verified.

  • In single atrial cells isolated from the rabbit the properties of inward current of Na-Ca exchange were investigated using the whole cell voltage clamp technique. The current was recorded during repolarization following brief 2 ms depolarizing pulse to +40 mV from a holding potential of * 70 mV. Followings are the results obtained: 1. When stimulated every 30 seconds, the inward currents were activated and reached peak values 6-12 ms after the beginning of depolarizing pulse. The mean current amplitude was 342 pA/cell. 2. The current decayed spontaneously from the peak activation and the time course of the relaxation showed two different phases fast and slow phase. The time constants were 10-18 ms and 60-140 ms, respectively. 3. The recovery of inward current was tested by paired pulse of various intervals. The peak current recovered exponentially with time constant of 140 ms and 1 p M isoprenaline accelerated the recovery process. 4. Relaxation time course was also affected by pulse interval and time constant of the fast phase was reduced almost linearly according to the decrease of pulse interval between 30 sec and 1 sec. 5. The peak activation was increased in magnitude by long prepulse stimulation, 5 p M Bay K, 1 p M isoprenaline or internal and external application of c-AMP. 6. The relaxation time constant of the fast phase was prolonged by 5 p M Bay K or c-AMP, and shortened by isoprenaline. However the time course of the slow relaxation phase was not so much changed. From the above results, it could be concluded that increase of the calcium current by Bay K or c-AMP results in the potentiation and prolongation of intracellular calcium transient, and the facilitation of Ca uptake by SR might be a mechanism of shortening the time constant of current relaxation by short interval stimulation or isoprenaline.

  • In this paper the effects of a Static Synchronous Series Compensator, which is constructed with a 48-pulse inverter, on the power demand from the grid are studied. Extensive simulation studies were carried out in the MATLAB simulation environment to observe the compensation achieved by the SSSC and its effects on the line voltage, line current, phase angle and real/reactive power. The designed device is simulated in a power system which is comprised of a three phase power source, a transmission line, line inductance and load. The system parameters such as line voltage, line current, reactive power Q and real power P transmissions are observed both when the SSSC is connected to and disconnected from the power system. The motivation for modeling a SSSC from a multi-pulse inverter is to enhance the voltage waveform of the device and this is observed in the total harmonic distortion (THD) analysis performed at the end of the paper. According to the results, the power flow and phase angle can be controlled successfully by the new device through voltage injection. Finally a THD analysis is performed to see the harmonics content. The effect on the quality of the line voltage and current is acceptable according to international standards.

  • SRM has not been put into practical applications widely because of its large torque ripple, acoustic noise and low power factor. In addition, a traditional position sensor is needed for the drive control. So we propose an improved sensorless drive method of Switched Reluctance Motors using impressed voltage pulses. Conventional impressed voltage pulse method has a problem of phase delay because of low-pass filter. So in this paper we propose an unproved sensorless driving method based on the impressed voltage pulse using new pulse-shift circuit technique that overcomes the phase delay and start-up problem. Proposed method is implemented in a simple analog circuit instead of using an expensive DSP.
