  • The choice of map projection method is depend on the desired map purpose because there is no best projection for maps. Previous projection decisions for published paper maps are not necessarily the right decisions for corresponding digital maps. The map grid and index system is simpler than projection system but it can be easily understanded by general users. In this study, through the study for the grid and index systems of the digital and paper map in our and other countries, I suggested the improvement plan on the problems of our digital map. New grid and index system of this paper are presented on behalf of digital geospatial data which as digital topographic map, digital elevation model and other digital maps.

  • There have been continuous improvements in human life expectancy. Life expectancy is as a key factor in an aging population and can wreak severe damage on the financial integrity of pension providers. Hence, the projection of the accurate future mortality is a critical point to prevent possible losses to pension providers. However, improvements in future mortality would be overestimated by a typical mortality projection method using the Lee-Carter model since it underestimates the mortality index ${\kappa}_t$. This paper suggests a mortality projection based on the projection of the skewness of the mortality versus the typical mortality projection of the Lee-Carter model based on the projection of the mortality index, ${\kappa}_t$. The paper shows how to indirectly estimate future t trend with the skewness of the mortality and compares the results under each estimation method of the mortality index, ${\kappa}_t$. The analysis of the results shows that mortality projection based on the skewness presents less improved mortality at an elderly ages than the original projection.

  • We propose a phase contrast filter using photopolymer, for the phase contrast projection display. The photopolymer has high photosensitivity such that its optically induced refractive index change has a linear dependency on the illuminating light intensity. We implemented a phase contrast projection display using photopolymer as a phase contrast filter. By controlling the refractive index change of the photopolymer, we successfully convert an input phase image into a high contrast intensity image. We also investigated the effect of the photopolymer illumination condition on the quality of the displayed intensity image. As a projector, we achieved 82% phase to intensity conversion efficiency, which implies that the proposed method can potentially have much higher light efficiency than conventional projection display.

  • The video similarity measure is very important factor to index and to retrieve for video data. In this paper, we propose the luminance projection model to measure the video similarity efficiently. Most algorithms for video indexing have been commonly used histograms, edges, or motion features, whereas in this paper, the proposed algorithm is employed an efficient measure using the luminance projection. To index effectively the video sequences and to decrease the computational complexity, we calculate video similarity using the key frames extracted by the cumulative measure, and compare the set of key frames using the modified Hausdorff distance. Experimental results show that the proposed luminance projection model yields the remarkable accuracy and performance than the conventional algorithm.

  • As a worldwide trend, the spatial information that is established by country, institution and purpose is integrated into the data with a single spatial reference to improve the data connectivity and usability. In this study, a new national single origin plane rectangular coordinate system was studied to efficiently respond to the changes in the spatial reference according to the introduction of a new national geodetic standard and to the demand of seamless data service in the spatial information sector. For this purpose, the Korean Peninsula was set as the projection region and the projection distortion in the projection region was analyzed. The projection parameters were defined to homogenize and minimize the projection distortion, and their standardization and registration on the international organizations were conducted. The study on the required optimal projection equation resulted in the Hooijberg projection equation and projection parameters (${\Phi}$, ${\lambda}$, K, N, E) resulted in $38^{\circ}N$ and $128^{\circ}E$ projection origin, and a scale factor of 0.99924. The proper false northing and easting were 700,000m N and 400,000m E, respectively, considering the introduction of country station index system.

  • This paper analyzes the characteristics of population change and makes the population projection in the mountainous area of Korea. Mountainous areas are defined as local towns (eup or myeon) with forest area more than 70 percent of land area, population density less than 111 people per square kilometer, and plowland area less than 21 percent of land area. The population in mountainous areas has decreased dramatically, while the ageing index has increased over the past two decades. To make the population projection, the cohort-change ratios method is applied. The results revealed that a multitude of young people aged 10 to 39 moved to cities to find education and job chance and some people aged 40 and over moved to mountainous areas as the trends of urban-to-rural migration. This continuing trend will culminate in 680 thousand people in population and 1,035 of ageing index in 2030, which will lead to the unequal land development and inefficient forest management. Thus, policy makers need to develop stimulus plans to revitalize and stabilize the economy of mountainous areas.

  • Projection that can be used as a feature for image representation, includes much available informations such as approximated shape and location. But when we retrieve image using it, there are some disadvantage such as requiring much index data and making different length of projected vector for differenr image size. In order to overcome these problems, we propose a method of using block variance for the projected vector. We use block variance of the projection vector to localize the characteristics of image and to reduce the number of index data in database. Proposed algorithm can make use of statistical advantage through database including various size of images and be executed with fast response time in implementation.

  • We show that there exists an isomorphism between the basic construction $(M_f)_1$ for $N_f{\subset}M_f$ and the reduction $(M_1)_f$ of the basic construction $M_1$ for $N{\subset}M$, where $f$ is a nontrivial projection in N. For a nontrivial projection $f{\in}N^{\prime}{\cap}M$ we give the basic construction $(M_f)_1$ for $N_f{\subset}M_f$ and compare it with $(M_1)_f$.
