  • The change in people's dietary life has led to an increase in an intake of processed foods and food chemicals, raising awareness about taste education for preschoolers whose dietary habits start to grow. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and satisfaction of parents and childcare personnel after developing a taste education program and demonstrating it in class. A part of the curriculum developed by Piusais and Pierre was referred for the program. After educating 524 preschoolers in child care facilities in Seoul, a satisfaction survey was conducted on the program. The data in this study were analyzed using SPSS 14.0. Statistical analysis was conducted based on the frequency after collecting the data. Mean ${\pm}$ SD used to determine satisfaction with taste education, with preferences marked on a five-point scale and the alpha was set at 0.05. The program includes five teachers' guides with subjects of sweetness, saltiness, sourness, bitterness and harmony of flavor, and ten kinds of teaching tools. For the change in parents' recognition of the need for taste education based on five-point scale, the average of $4.06{\pm}0.62$ before the program has significantly increased to $4.32{\pm}0.52$ (P < 0.01). Regarding the change in the preferences for sweetness, saltiness, sourness, and bitterness, the average has increased to $3.83{\pm}0.61$, $3.62{\pm}0.66$, $3.64{\pm}0.66$, and $3.56{\pm}0.75$ respectively. In an evaluation of instructors in child care facilities, the average scores for education method, education effect, education contents and nutritionists, and teaching tools were at $4.15{\pm}0.63$, $3.91{\pm}0.50$, $4.18{\pm}0.50$, and $3.80{\pm}0.56$ respectively. In addition, the need for a continuous taste education scored $4.42{\pm}0.67$. This program has created a positive change in preschoolers' dietary life, therefore the continuation and propagation of the taste education program should be considered.

  • The study aimed to examine the state of visual acuity tests in preschoolers and determine the factors affecting the deterioration of their vision. A total of 172 pair, child aged 5-7 years and either one of their parents, were recruited from childcare centers or kindergarten between August 2015 and January 2016. Questionnaires were administered to the parents, and the children's visual acuities were measured. Using forward selection in logistics regression analysis, factors affecting vision deterioration were elucidated. Of 172 children, 128 (74.4%) had undergone a visual acuity test previously and 77 (44.8%) showed a deterioration in their vision. Children who had undergone their first visual acuity test after the age of 7 years (OR=7.425, CI=2.844- 19.385) and showed more abnormal eye symptoms, such as squinting or tilting the head to see or falling down frequently (OR=3.084, CI=1.202-7.914) and whose age was younger (OR=10.335, CI=3.252-32.848), were more likely to develop deterioration of vision. Children who had a posture such that they looked up at the computer monitor from below (OR=.075, CI=.022-.255), were less likely to show deterioration of vision. It can be inferred that early visual acuity tests is essential to detect deteriorated vision of preschoolers. Therefore, it is necessary to educate parents, personnels in day care center, and health clinics about the importance of early visual acuity tests and close observation of specific behaviors related to vision deterioration. Development of precautionary intervention program of vision deterioration in preschoolers and examination of its effects are needed.

  • As importance of English has been getting more important with globalization, English education for preschoolers has drawn more attention from parents who were born in 1970's and 1980's. Demands for English education are very intense mainly because parent generation has experienced importance of English through own career and they have only one or two children, resulting parents' willingness to invest more on children's education. In order to response high demands for English education, Korean public education system has introduced more intense English education curriculum for younger children and put more weights on English education even for preschoolers. Even though there are numbers of studies to support effectiveness of English education for pre-school age children, adaption of English education for them without through preparation may cause unwanted results on children's learning experience. Hence, it is imperative to develop guideline for English education targeting pre-school age children based on through studies. The purpose of this paper is to justify English education for preschoolers based on various theories for language acquisition, research effectiveness of edutainment animation for English education, and provide basic guideline to develop edutainment animation in the future. To achieve this goal, this study visits how each theory emphasizes importance of language education in preschool age children and analyzes well-known edutainment animation titles by comparing them per characteristics. Furthermore, specifically from participation-inducing animation for education, each component, such as characters, story structure, & story telling methods, has been discussed. Based on the findings from this paper, basic guidelines to develop edutainment animation are developed by suggesting teaching tools for English education for preschoolers.

  • When children exhibit unusually intense or persistent sexual interests or behavior, this is an indication that they have been exposed to more than the expectable amount of sexual experience, Although sexualized behavior and/or statement is a symptom of sexual abuse, it is not necessarily an indication of sexual abuse. The possibility of false allegation needs to be considered, particularly if allegations are coming from the parent rather than a child, if parents are engaged in dispute over custody or visitation, and/or if the child is a preschooler. False allegations may arise in other situations as well, such as the misinterpretation of a child's statement or behavior by relative or caretakers. And children may make false statement in psychiatric evaluations. A case of false allegation of sexual abuse made by mentally retarded 10 year-old girl who has been located in an institute is presented. During her evaluation process, it was clinician's diagnostic impression that she had no been sexually abused but sexually stimulated in some way, and most of what she said was a fantasy lie. Its pathological mechanism is discussed in terms of pseudologia fantastica along with the review of literatures.
