Multi-class Analysis of Exposure Chemicals in Deciduous Teeth by Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry: Preliminary Studies on Sample Preparation Methods

  • Since accumulation of chemicals in deciduous teeth can occur from the second trimester of fetal development to shedding, a deciduous tooth has been considered as an attractive biomatrix for estimating individual chemical exposures recently. Therefore, detection of organic chemicals from teeth has received an increasing attention in exposomics research. Most previous studies on organic chemical analysis of teeth not only focused on a few targeted chemicals but also ignored potential contaminants from an enamel surface or a dental pulp. Recently, our group started developing a multi-class organic analysis method for deciduous teeth and tried to find a proper incubation condition of tooth materials. Our results showed that incubation with methanolic HCl provided the best performance among tested.

An Investigation of Retirement Expectation among Medical Technologists in Korea (한국 임상병리사들의 은퇴 기대 조사)

  • This study investigated the influence factors of retirement expectations among medical technologists at medical centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi area, Korea. Subjects were 158 medical technologists. Using a sampling survey method, data was analyzed between July 2015 and December 2016. There was a negative correlation between educational level and economic preparation, but gender and monthly income did not reach retirement expectation level. Conversely, we found no change in the trends with respect to gender, monthly income; nonetheless, we observed that frustration gradually increased with age and working duration. In conclusion, our findings show that there are four factors that significantly influence retirement expectation and preparation: age, level of education, working duration, and family condition. This study contributes to understanding retirement expectations and can be a reference for retirement preparation in medical technologists.

Reaction Parameters on the Reactivity in the Preparation of B4C by SHS (자전연소합성법에 의한 B4C분말의 제조에 있어 반응성에 대한 반응변수의 고찰)

  • The preparation of B4C by SHS in $B_{2}O_{3}-Mg-C$ system was investigated in this study. In the preparation of B4C, the effect on reactivity and reaction products of the initial pressure of inert gas in reactor, the content of Mg and C in mixture was investigated. The minimum initial pressure of inert gas in reactor for SHS reaction in this system was 25 atm, and as the pressure increased, the concentration of unreacted Mg decreased and combustion temperature increased. At the initial inert gas pressure in reactor of 25 atm, the optimum composition for the preparation of pure B4C was $2B_{2}O_{3}+6.3Mg +0.94C$. The B4C synthesized in this condition had an irregular shape and the particle size of $1\~3{\mu}m$.

Convergence differences of academic burnout, career preparation behavior etc. by resilience clusters of students majoring in Medical records (의무기록 전공 대학생의 회복탄력성 군집에 따른 학업소진, 진로준비행동 등의 융합적 차이)

  • The purpose of this study is to find convergence differences of academic burnout, career preparation behavior, and general characteristics of the students majoring in medical records according to each cluster of resilience, and draw a proper improvement plan. A self-administered questionnaire survey had been conducted and a total of 168 copies were analyzed. As a results Cluster analysis was conducted on three detailed categories of resilience and was classified into two clusters. Cluster1 was a group that had points higher than the average points of Korean in each one of three categories. Cluster2 had all of which were lower points than that. Cluster1 had higher points than cluster2 in terms of career preparation behavior, hobby, subjectively good health condition, extroverted personality, good academic records, satisfaction with school life, and study satisfaction ratio, but had lower points than cluster2 in terms of academic burnout. Therefore, positiveness enhancement education focused on cluster2 will improve total group resilience.

Effect of heat treatment on the structural characteristics and properties of silk sericin film

  • Recently, silk sericin has attracted attention because of its unique properties as a biomaterial, including its UV resistance, moisturizing effect on skin, and wound-healing effect. Therefore, the preparation of sericin in various forms such as gel, film, fiber, and sponge is studied for cosmetic and biomedical applications, and the effect of the preparation conditions on the structure and properties of sericin forms is examined to maximize its performance. In this study, silk sericin films were prepared under different preparation conditions and heat-treated at high temperatures ($100-250^{\circ}C$) to examine the effect of heat treatment on the film structure. The order of the crystallinity index of the untreated sericin film is as follows: F25 (sericin film cast from formic acid) > WE25 (ethanol treated sericin film cast from water at $250^{\circ}C$) > W25 (sericin film cast from water at $250^{\circ}C$) > W100 (sericin film cast from water at $100^{\circ}C$). As the heat-treatment temperature was increased, the color of the sericin films changed gradually from colorless to yellow, brown, and black depending on the temperature. The crystallinity of the sericin film changed after the heat treatment, depending on the preparation condition. Whereas a sericin film cast from formic acid (F25) started to lose its crystallinity at $200^{\circ}C$, thus undergoing the highest loss of crystallinity among the sericin films studied, the rest (W25, WE25, and W100) showed a decrease in crystallinity at $250^{\circ}C$, owing to the disruption of the ${\beta}$-sheet crystallites due to heat.

Preparation of α-Si3N4 Powder in Reaction System Containing Molten Salt by SHS - Part 1. Synthesis of Powder (용융염계에서 자전연소합성법에 의한 α-Si3N4분말의 제조 - Part 1.분말의 합성)

  • Si, NH$_4$Cl, NaN$_3$, NaCl, $N_2$ were used as raw materials for preparation of $\alpha$-Si$_3$N$_4$ powder. NH$_4$Cl and NaN$_3$ were used as additives, and NaCl was used as a diluent. Initial $N_2$ gas pressure in the SHS reactor was 60 atm. In preparation of $\alpha$-Si$_3$N$_4$, the reactivity and the properties of the products were examined with the various kinds of additives and the content of diluent. At first, the optimum reaction system for the preparation of $\alpha$-Si$_3$N$_4$ is examined and then the optimum composition was examined in the optimum reaction system. The optimum reaction system was Si-$N_2$-additive(NH$_4$Cl+NaN$_3$)-diluent(NaCl) and the optimum composition was 38 wt%Si+50 wt%(NH$_4$Cl+NaN$_3$)+12 wt%NaCl. The maximum fraction of $\alpha$-phase of Si$_3$N$_4$ produced in this condition was 96.5 wt% and the shape of the $\alpha$-Si$_3$N$_4$ produced in this condition was an irregular fiber with a length of 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and a diameter of 1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

Study of Patient Teaching in The Clinical Area (간호원의 환자교육 활동에 관한 연구)

  • Nursing of today has as one of its objectives the solving of problems related to human needs arising from the demands of a rapidly changing society. This nursing objective, I believe, can he attained by the appropriate application of scientific principles in the giving of comprehensive nursing care. Comprehensive nursing care may be defined as nursing care which meets all of the patient's needs. the needs of patients are said to fall into five broad categories: physical needs, psychological needs, environmental needs, socio-economic needs, and teaching needs. Most people who become ill have adjustment problems related to their new situation. Because patient teaching is one of the most important functions of professional nursing, the success of this teaching may be used as a gauge for evaluating comprehensive nursing care. This represents a challenge foe the future. A questionnaire consisting of 67 items was distributed to 200 professional nurses working ill direct patient care at Yonsei University Medical Center in Seoul, Korea. 160 (80,0%) nurses of the total sample returned completed questionnaires 81 (50.6%) nurses were graduates of 3 fear diploma courser 79 (49.4%) nurses were graduates of 4 year collegiate nursing schools in Korea 141 (88,1%) nurses had under 5 years of clinical experience in a medical center, while 19 (11.9%) nurses had more than 5years of clinical experience. Three hypotheses were tested: 1. “Nurses had high levels of concept and knowledge toward patient teaching”-This was demonstrated by the use of a statistical method, the mean average. 2. “Nurses graduating from collegiate programs and diploma school programs of nursing show differences in concepts and knowledge toward patient teaching”-This was demonstrated by a statistical method, the mean average, although the results showed little difference between the two groups. 3. “Nurses having different amounts of clinical experience showed differences in concepts and knowledge toward patient teaching”-This was demonstrated by the use of a statistical method, the mean average. 2. “Nurses graduating from collegiate programs and diploma school programs of nursing show differences in concepts and knowledge toward patient teaching”-This was demonstrated by a statistical method, the mean average, although the results showed little difference between the two groups. 3. “Nurses having different amounts of clinical experience showed differences in concepts and knowledge toward patient teaching”-This was demonstrated by the use of the T-test. Conclusions of this study are as follow: Before attempting the explanation, of the results, the questionnaire will he explained. The questionnaire contained 67 questions divided into 9 sections. These sections were: concept, content, time, prior preparation, method, purpose, condition, evaluation, and recommendations for patient teaching. 1. The nurse's concept of patient teaching: Most of the nurses had high levels of concepts and knowledge toward patient teaching. Though nursing service was task-centered at the turn of the century, the emphasis today is put on patient-centered nursing. But we find some of the nurses (39.4%) still are task-centered. After, patient teaching, only a few of the nurses (14.4%) checked this as “normal teaching.”It seems therefore that patient teaching is often done unconsciously. Accordingly it would he desirable to have correct concepts and knowledge of teaching taught in schools of nursing. 2. Contents of patient teaching: Most nurses (97.5%) had good information about content of patient teaching. They teach their patients during admission about their diseases, tests, treatments, and before discharge give nurses instruction about simple nursing care, personal hygiene, special diets, rest and sleep, elimination etc. 3. Time of patient teaching: Teaching can be accomplished even if there is no time set aside specifically for it. -a large part of the nurse's teaching can be done while she is giving nursing care. If she believes she has to wait for time free from other activities, she may miss many teaching opportunities. But generally proper time for patient teaching is in the midmorning or midafternoon since one and a half or two hours required. Nurses meet their patients in all stages of health: often tile patient is in a condition in which learning is impossible-pain, mental confusion, debilitation, loss of sensory perception, fear and anxiety-any of these conditions may preclude the possibility of successful teaching. 4. Prior preparation for patient teaching: The teaching aids, nurses use are charts (53.1%), periodicals (23.8%), and books (7.0%) Some of the respondents (28.1%) reported that they had had good preparation for the teaching which they were doing, others (27.5%) reported adequate preparation, and others (43.8%) reported that their preparation for teaching was inadequate. If nurses have advance preparation for normal teaching and are aware of their objectives in teaching patients, they can do effective teaching. 5. Method of patient teaching: The methods of individual patient teaching, the nurses in this study used, were conversation (55.6%) and individual discussion (19.2%) . And the methods of group patient teaching they used were demonstration (42.3%) and lecture (26.2%) They should also he prepared to use pamphlet and simple audio-visual aids for their teaching. 6. Purposes of patient teaching: The purposes of patient teaching is to help the patient recover completely, but the majority of the respondents (40.6%) don't know this. So it is necessary for them to understand correctly the purpose of patient teaching and nursing care. 7. Condition of patient teaching: The majority of respondents (75.0%) reported there were some troubles in teaching uncooperative patients. It would seem that the nurse's leaching would be improved if, in her preparation, she was given a better understanding of the patient and communication skills. The majority of respondents in the total group, felt teaching is their responsibility and they should teach their patient's family as well as the patient. The place for teaching is most often at the patient's bedside (95.6%) but the conference room (3.1%) is also used. It is important that privacy be provided in learning situations with involve personal matters. 8. Evaluation of patient teaching: The majority of respondents (76.3%,) felt leaching is a highly systematic and organized function requiring special preparation in a college or university, they have the idea that teaching is a continuous and ever-present activity of all people throughout their lives. The suggestion mentioned the most frequently for improving preparation was a course in patient teaching included in the basic nursing program. 9. Recommendations: 1) It is recommended, that in clinical nursing, patient teaching be emphasized. 2) It is recommended, that insertive education the concepts and purposes of patient teaching he renewed for all nurses. In addition to this new knowledge, methods and materials which can be applied to patient teaching should be given also. 3) It is recommended, in group patient teaching, we try to embark on team teaching.

A Kinetic Analysis of the Side Propulsion Task with Preparatory Motions (사전 동작을 이용한 좌우 추진 과제의 운동역학적 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to find the most effective movement pattern from three different types of preparatory movement(squat, countermovement and hopping) in sideward responsive propulsion task, which had the time constraint to complete the performance. 7 healthy subjects participated in left and right side movement task by an external signal, which required the subject to perform the task as fast as possible. Mechanical output and joint kinetics focusing on the lower extremities were analyzed. The results were as follows. In spite of the shortest duration in propulsive phase, the hopping condition showed no difference with other conditions in the work output done and take-off velocity. It resulted from the greatest power output generated during the propulsive phase. A significant difference was found for joint moment and joint power according to the movement conditions. The joint moment and joint power for the countermovement and hopping conditions were larger than those in the squat condition. This was speculated to be due to the extra power that could be generated by the pre-stretch of muscle in preparation for the propulsion. The hopping condition which had substantially more pre-stretch load in the preparatory eccentric phase produced considerably more power than countermovement condition in the propulsive concentric phase. Furthermore during the hopping a large amount of joint moment and joint power could be produced in a shorter time. Therefore it was deemed that the hopping movement is an effective type of preparatory movement which takes much more advantage of the pre-stretch than any other movement.

A Study on the Facility Management Method through Actual Condition of Space Management - Based on the National University (공간관리 현황조사를 통한 대학시설관리방안에 관한 연구 - 국립대학의 사례를 중심으로)

  • To enhance the administrational efficiency and for university facility and space management to be public, this research suggests a competent and an objective evaluation system and index. The study will assist national and university finances to contribute towards advanced education. Furthermore, figure out the space management condition of national university by utilizing the evaluation system, and through that suggesting efficient special management method. According to the result of this study, evaluation system for university facility can be widely divided into seven categories; system preparation, members conference, propriety of space allocation, propriety of management system, space use ratio, time control of space use, imposition index of surplus use. Based on these subdivisions, the space management category contains 19 evaluation items and the marking system allows perfect score of 100 points. In result of examining space management condition using the evaluation system, space management was well enforced in research focused university group where as in education centered university group, it shows relatively low enforcement. It also illustrated that efforts of evaluation items were required in categories of imposition index of surplus use and special use ratio in order for efficient space management.

Preparation of Fullerene Oxides by Fullerenes[$C_{60},C_{70}$] with Several Oxidants under Ultrasonic Condition (초음파 조건에서 산화제를 이용한 풀러렌 산화물의 제조)

  • Synthesis of fullerene oxides by fullerenes [$C_{60},\;C_{70}$] and several oxidants such as benzoylperoxide, trichloroisocyanuric acid, methyltrioxorhenium(VII), iodosobenzene, phosphorous pentoxide take place under ultrasonic condition at room temperature. The MALDI-TOF MS,UV-visible spectra and HPLC analysis confirmed that the products of fullerenes oxidation are [$C_{60}(O)_n$], ($n=1{\sim}3$ or n=1) and [$C_{70}(O)_n$], ($n=1{\sim}2$ or n=1). As compared with the reactivity of epoxidation of fullerenes [$C_{60},\;C_{70}$], the reaction rate of $C_{70}$ was lower than that of $C_{60}$ under same reaction condition.
