This study was carried out to establish an improved bioassay system on the side of practicality, pre-emergence bioassay which is more effective in developing soil application natural herbicides. A miniaturized method which have a 50 cm2 of soil surface area and was efficient by 7 times compared to the existing soil application assay ($350cm^2$ of soil surface area) was established, in which four weed species (Echinochloa crus-galli, Digitaria sanguinalis, Aeschynomene indica, and Abutilon theophrasti) were planted and grown in greenhouse. This would be applicable when the amount of screening compound is much more than 50 mg. The initial application rate was desirable at $10,000{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$. On the other hand, the 6 well plate assay which has 4 weed species in each well containing upland soil and could be conducted in growth chamber, was established. This assay was resulted in minimizing in level of 1/14 test volume and 1/14 amounts of test compound to the conventional method that has been used for screening of synthetic compounds in KRICT, and applicable for the small amount of test compound (less than 10 mg). Therefore, the improved bioassays established in this study would be helpful for a rapid and efficient development of soil application natural herbicides.
This study aims to identify factors related to rescreening the private health screening center. Data from private health screening center with seven district centers were analyzed. This study examines the performance of the pre-treatment process system to use CGS, a by-product generated in IGCC, as a concrete fine aggregate for construction materials, on the quality of CGS fine aggregate. As a result of the analysis, it is judged that the quality of fine aggregates of CGS can be improved at both density, absorption rate, and 0.08mm body passage amount after the hydroelectric screening process using water as a medium during the pretreatment process. It is believed that it can be used as basic data for national standard certification of CGS fine aggregates in the future.
Purpose: This study developed a shelter for dementia programs based on primary health care posts; and examined its effectiveness in rural older adults. Methods: This study used a case report provided by a primary healthcare post in Jeonnam, Korea, in 2023. A single group pre-test post-test design was used; for three months, and 10 older adults participated in the shelter for dementia programs based on the primary health care post. The effectiveness of the intervention was measured immediately after entering the shelter for dementia programs. Results: There were significant differences between the pre-test and post-test on the cognitive impairment screening test (p=.005). Conclusion: The shelter for dementia programs based on primary health care posts was effective in improving cognitive impairments of rural older adults.
The Platelet Function Analyzer (PFA)$^{(R)}$-100 measures the ability of platelets activated in a high-shear environment to occlude an aperture in a membrane treated with collagen and epinephrine (CEPI) or collagen and ADP (CADP). The time taken for the flow across the membrane to stop (closure time, CT) is recorded. The aim of this study was to assess the potential of the PFA$^{(R)}$-100 as a primary clinical screening tool using the wide spectrum of clinical samples assessed for platelet function as well as to perform the optimal algorithm for the use of PFA$^{(R)}$-100. We established the reference interval in 460 hospital inpatients defined as having normal platelet function based on classical laboratory tests. The reference interval by using the range $5^{th}$ and $95^{th}$ percentile was 84~251 seconds for males CEPI-CT and 85~249 seconds for females CEPI-CT. A total of 1,200 inpatients were enrolled to identify impaired hemostasis before surgical interventions. The abnormal group showing prolonged CEPI-CT was 303 cases (18.9%). Only 3 cases had both abnormal CEPI-CT and CADP-CT. Several factors including sample errors, drugs, hematologic abnoralities were contributed to unexpected prolonged CEPI-CT for screening test. The von Willebrand factor (vWF:Ag) assay was performed only in one patient to verify the algorithm for the use of PFA$^{(R)}$-100. The PFA$^{(R)}$-100 was sensitive and rapid method for primary screening test of platelet dysfunction, so we can substitute it for the bleeding time in routine clinical practice.

Interactions between the surface and capsid proteins of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) are critical for the assembly of virus particles. In this study, we developed a cell-based method to visualize the interactions between the capsid and surface proteins of HBV. Capsid-GFP, a capsid protein fused to a green fluorescence protein (GFP), forms nucleocapsid-like structures in the cytoplasm of mammalian cells. It relocates to the plasma membranes in cells expressing PH-PreS, a fusion protein consisting of the PreS region of the HBV surface protein and the PH domain of PLC-$\gamma$. Membrane localization of the capsid-GFP in these cells is prevented by an inhibitory peptide that blocks the interaction between the capsid and surface proteins. This dynamic localization of capsid-GFP is applicable for screening compounds that may potentially inhibit or prevent the assembly process of HBV particles.

Systematic studies on the dispatch scheduling algorithm and related constraints can enhance the effectiveness of electricity market operation. When System Operator (SO) establishes a dispatch schedule, the bid information should be preserved in the schedule as much as possible. In this paper, we introduce a new type of sensitivity factor called Line Outage Impact Factor (LOIF) to screen a transmission line causing the most severe outage when scheduling the dispatch. This screening can assure the stable system operation and make an efficient feedback between the SO and market participants. We propose a transmission line contingency constrained Pre-dispatch algorithm using sensitivity indices in a suitable Pre-dispatch scheduling. The proposed algorithm has been tested on sample system and the results show more secure operation against critical contingencies.

Background: Cervical human papillomavirus (HPV) infection among young women (20-25 years of age) is common and normally transient. There are growing concerns that referral to a colposcopy clinic may lead to unnecessary treatment with an increased risk of obstetric complications. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the level of intervention for cervical abnormalities in this age group of the Northern Ireland population. Materials and Methods: A review of all serial new patients under 25 years of age, who were referred to colposcopy clinics in Northern Ireland between January 1, 2009 to June 30, 2009 formed the basis of this study. Results: During the study period, a total of 4,767 women under 25 years of age were screened. Two-hundred-and-thirty-four (4.9%) cases were referred to the colposcopy clinics. The cervical cytology results were: high-grade abnormality in 35%, and low-grade abnormality in 31% of these cases. One-hundred-and-seventy-eight (76%) of the referred women received at least one treatment. One-hundred-and-twenty-one of 234 (51.5%) women underwent an excisional treatment with histology showing the presence of high-grade abnormalities (CIN2-3) in 52%, CIN1 in 28%, and Koilocytosis or normal tissue in 20% of this sub-group of cases. Conclusions: Screening women under the age of 25 years cause unnecessary referral for colposcopy. This may also result in considerable anxiety and psychosexual morbidity. It leads to an over-treatment with a potential of negative impact on the future pregnancy outcomes (including pre-term delivery, low birth weight, and pre-term premature rupture of membranes).
