The performance behavior of solid oxide fuel cell using reformate gas as fuels was investigated. When the pre-reformate gas was used without steam, the maximum power density was 50% lower than that using H2. This may be due to carbon deposition caused by the pyrolysis of remaining hydrocarbons. However, when the steam was added, the maximum power density showed a relatively small variation according to reformate gas. When pre-reformate gas with steam was fed into anode, the SOFC showed the stable performance without sharp voltage drop during 10h operation.
To remove the Cu secondary phase remaining on the surface of a CIGSSe absorber layer manufactured by the two-step process, KCN etching was applied before depositing the CdS buffer layer. In addition, it was possible to increase the conversion efficiency by air annealing after forming the CdS buffer layer. In this study, various pre-treatment/post-treatment conditions wereapplied to the S-containing CIGSSe absorber layerbefore and after formation of the CdS buffer layer to experimentally confirm whether similareffects as those of Se-terminated CIGSe were exhibited. Contrary to expectations, it was noted that CdS air annealing had negative effects.

An update and the latest results on molten metal atomization using a Pressure-Gas-Atomizer will be given. This atomizer combines a swirl-pressure atomizer, to generate a liquid hollow cone film and a gas atomizer to atomize the film and/or the fragments of the film. The paper is focused on powder production, but this atomization system is also applicable for deposition purposes. Different alloys (Sn, SnCu) were atomized to study the characteristics of the Pressure-Gas-Atomizer.
We present a method for spatially selective immobilization of functional materials, such as proteins and nanoparticles, onto pre-activated silicon surfaces by electrochemical reaction. Carboxymethylbenzendiazonium (CMBD) cations, being adsorbable on silicon surfaces through electrochemically reductive deposition, is used as an anchor molecule to prepare the pre-activated silicon surfaces. It is demonstrated that the use of BD reaction is very efficient for the selective immobilization because the functional materials are immobilized exclusively onto the pre-adsorbed CMBD region. The method is applied to immobilize gold nanoparticles on the selected nanowire of the nanowire array.

This paper describes on characteristics of 2" 3C-SiC wafer bonding using PECVD (plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) oxide and HF (hydrofluoride acid) for SiCOI (SiC-on-Insulator) structures and MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical system) applications. In this work, insulator layers were formed on a heteroepitaxial 3C-SiC film grown on a Si (001) wafer by thermal wet oxidation and PECVD process, successively. The pre-bonding of two polished PECVD oxide layers made the surface activation in HF and bonded under applied pressure. The bonding characteristics were evaluated by the effect of HF concentration used in the surface treatment on the roughness of the oxide and pre-bonding strength. Hydrophilic character of the oxidized 3C-SiC film surface was investigated by ATR-FTIR (attenuated total reflection Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy). The root-mean-square suface roughness of the oxidized SiC layers was measured by AFM (atomic force microscope). The strength of the bond was measured by tensile strength meter. The bonded interface was also analyzed by IR camera and SEM (scanning electron microscope), and there are no bubbles or cavities in the bonding interface. The bonding strength initially increases with increasing HF concentration and reaches the maximum value at 2.0 % and then decreases. These results indicate that the 3C-SiC wafer direct bonding technique will offers significant advantages in the harsh MEMS applications.ions.
Carbon nanotubes [CNTs] are grown on TiN-coated Si substrates at $700^{\circ}C$ by inductively coupled plasma-chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD). Pre-treatment of Ni catalysts has been performed using an RF magnetron sputtering system. Structural properties and field-emission characteristics of the CNTs grown are analyzed in terms of the RF power applied and the treatment time used in the pre-treatment process. The characterization using various techniques, such as FE-SEM, AFM, and Raman spectroscopy, show that the physical dimension as well as the crystal quality of CNTs are changed by pre-treatment of Ni catalysts. It is also seen that Ni catalysts with proper grain size and uniform surface roughness may produce much better electron emission. The physical reason for all the measured data obtained are discussed to establish the relationship between the structural property and the electron emission characteristic of CNTs.
Vapor phase polymerization of a conductive polymer on a $SiO_2$ surface can offer an easy and convenient means to depositing pure and conductive polymer thin films. However, the vapor phase deposition is generally associated with very poor adhesion as well as difficulty when patterning the polymer thin film onto an oxide dielectric substrate. For a significant improvement of the patternability and adhesion of Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) thin film to a $SiO_2$ surface, the substrate was pre-patterned with n-octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) molecules using a ${\mu}$-contact printing method. The negative patterns were then backfilled with each of three amino-functionalized silane self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of (3-aminopropyl) trimethoxysilane (APS), N-(2-aminoethyl)-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (EDA), and (3- trimethoxysilylpropyl)diethylenetriamine (DET). The quality and electrical properties of the patterned P3HT thin films were investigated with optical and atomic force microscopy and a four-point probe. The results exhibited excellent selective deposition and significantly improved adhesion of P3HT films to a $SiO_2$ surface. In addition, the conductivity of polymeric thin films was relatively high (${\sim}13.51\;S/cm$).

High bandwidth RF such as Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE, 3GSM, HSDPA is papular in the mobile phone market. A non-conducting metal coating process requires an e-beam deposition of metal, two steps of UV hard coating primer and top coating; however, it is inefficient. We navigate to the electron beam irradiation conditions(resin surface treatment conditions) in the PC/ABS resin injection process. By analyzing the experimental results, we find the optimum development conditions for the electro deposition pre-treatment process and mass production lines using the plasma generated electron beam source.
Accident Tolerant Fuels have been widely studied since the Fukushima-Daiichi accident in 2011 as one of the options on how to further enhance the safety of nuclear power plants. Deposition of protective coatings on nuclear fuel claddings has been considered as a near-term concept that will reduce the high-temperature oxidation rate and enhance accidental tolerance of the cladding while providing additional benefits during normal operation and transients. This study focuses on experimental testing of Zr-based alloys coated with Cr-based coatings using Physical Vapour Deposition. The results of long-term corrosion tests, as well as tests simulating postulated accidents, are presented. Zr-1%Nb alloy used as nuclear fuel cladding serves as a substrate and Cr, CrN, CrxNy layers are deposited by unbalanced magnetron sputtering and reactive magnetron sputtering. The deposition procedures are optimized in order to improve coating properties. Coated as well as reference uncoated samples were experimentally tested. The presented results include standard long-term corrosion tests at 360℃ in WWER water chemistry, burst (creep) tests and mainly single and double-sided high-temperature steam oxidation tests between 1000 and 1400℃ related to postulated Loss-of-coolant accident and Design extension conditions. Coated and reference samples were characterized pre- and post-testing using mechanical testing (microhardness, ring compression test), Thermal Evolved Gas Analysis analysis (hydrogen, oxygen concentration), optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (EDS, WDS, EBSD) and X-ray diffraction.

This study explores the effects of repair width on the deposition characteristics and mechanical properties of stainless steel samples repaired using direct energy deposition (DED). In the DED repair process, defects such as pores and cracks can occur at the interface between the substrate and deposited material. In this study, we changed the width of the pre-machined zone for repair in order to prevent cracks from occurring at the inclined surface. As a result of the experiment, cracks of 10-40 ㎛ in length were formed along the inclined slope regardless of the repair width. Yield and tensile strength decreased slightly as the repair width increased, but the total and uniform elongation increased. This is due to the orientation of the crack. For specimens with a repair width of 20 mm, yield and tensile strength were 883 MPa and 1135 MPa, respectively. Total and uniform elongations were 14.3% and 8.2%, respectively. During observation of the fracture specimens, we noted that the fracture of the specimen with an 8 mm repair width occurred along the slope, whereas specimens with 14 mm and 20 mm repair depths fractured at the middle of the repaired region. In conclusion, we found that tensile properties were dependent upon the repair width and the inclination of the crack occurred at the interface.
