Practical Design Considerations for Large PM Machines

  • To help machine designers to make precise design of large permanent magnet (PM) machines, this paper presents a set of design considerations that are very often ignored by machine designers. These considerations are categorized into several aspects: electromagnetic (EM) performance, losses and efficiency, fault and stability, and some other issues. The effects of various practical factors are presented and some corresponding design methods are introduced.

Back-up Control of Truck-Trailer Vehicles with Practical Constraints: Computing Time Delay and Quantization

  • In this paper, we present implementation of backward movement control of truck-trailer vehicles using a fuzzy mode-based control scheme considering practical constraints and computational overhead. We propose a fuzzy feedback controller where output is predicted with the delay of a unit sampling period. Analysis and design of the proposed controller is very easy, because it is synchronized with sampling time. Stability analysis is also possible when quantization exists in the implementation of fuzzy control architectures, and we show that if the trivial solution of the fuzzy control system without quantization is asymptotically stable, then the solutions of the fuzzy control system with quantization are uniformly ultimately bounded. Experimental results using a toy truck show that the proposed control system outperforms a conventional system.

Observer-Based Adaptive Guidance Law Considering Target Uncertainties and Control Loop Dynamics (목표물의 불확실성과 제어루프 특성을 고려한 추정기 기반 적응 유도기법)

  • This paper proposes an observer-based method for adaptive nonlinear guidance. Previously, adaptive nonlinear guidance law is proposed considering target maneuver and control loop dynamics. However, several information of this guidance law is not available, and therefore needs to be estimated for more practical application. Accordingly, considering the unavailable information as bounded time-varying uncertainties, an integrated guidance and control model is re-formulated in normal form with respect to available states including target uncertainties and control loop dynamics. Then, a nonlinear observer is designed based on the integrated guidance and control model. Finally, using the estimates for states and uncertainties, an observer-based adaptive guidance law is proposed to guarantee the desired interception performance against maneuvering target. The proposed approach can be effectively used against target maneuver and the limited performance of control loop. The stability analyses and simulations of the proposed observer and guidance law are included to demonstrate the practical application of our scheme.

  • There are fatigue fractures at the practical area. The fatigue load happens non- constantly. As it is impossible to be predicted, it can not be known when the fracture happens. Non -constant fatigue load is simulated in this study. The stability and the life of the material are analyzed theoretically by the program of Ansys workbench. These results are greatly applied as the practical structures to predict the prevention of failure and the endurance.

  • There are fatigue fractures at the practical area. The fatigue load happens non- constantly. As it is impossible to be predicted, it can not be known when the fracture happens.   • Design of a controller for a high-precision servo control system has been a popular topic while finding optimal parameters for multiple controllers is still a challenging subject. In this paper, we propose a practical scheme to optimize multi-parameters for the robust servo controller design by introducing a new cost function and optimization scheme. The proposed design method provides a simple and practical tool for the systematic servo design to reduce the control error with guaranteeing robust stability of the overall system. The reduction of the position error by 24% along with a faster convergence rate is demonstrated using a typical hard disk drive servo controller with 41 parameters.

  • For the practical use as a biosensor, a rubber electrode bound by polybutadiene was newly devised for the determination of hydrogen peroxide. Then its electrochemical behaviors were investigated. The signal could be obtained at low electrode potential between 0.0 ~ -0.5 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) with a detection limit of $1.4{\times}10^{-4}M$ and its potential dependence was linear in the experimental range. Especially its Lineweaver-Burk plot showed a very good linearity giving the evidence of a good enzyme immobilization on the surface of the electrode. And mechanical stability of the electrode resulted from using rubber binder presented a new possibility for the practical use of biosensor.

  • This paper presents some practical design issues that should be carefully considered when a notch filter is included in a linear feedback controller. A notch filter is generally used to compensate the effects of resonant modes that may result in poor performance. It is very common that the practical engineers prefer to add such a notch filter after having previously designed a feedback controller without the filter. It is known that the resulting performance by this approach is not seriously different from when a feedback controller is designed for a plant previously compensated by a notch filter. However, we will point out that there are some cases where both approaches have different performances. In order to show this, a low-order controller design using the partial model matching method has been applied to a linear time invariant (L Tn model. The results suggest that there is a tendency to achieve much better time responses in terms of reducing the overshoot and shortening the settling time, and in the frequency domain characteristics such as the sensitivity function and the stability margins when the design of a feedback controller after including a notch filter is carried out.

  • Considering rapid development of Electronic Trade in Korea, it is an important issue to analyze consumers' satisfaction and e-loyalty. The purpose of this study is to find the affecting factors on the determinants and utilizable intention of electronic trade trustworthness and e-loyalty. In the literature review, it was made to compare and analyze the precedent papers about electronic trade trustworthness theory, Keller and Aaker(1992), Yun, Seong-jun's(2000) model of the trustworthness. This study investigates the concept of the satisfaction, e-loyalty in electronic trade site and its determinants, and tries to establish e-loyalty analyzing model. The model of the satisfaction, e-loyalty electronic trade site is tested here using data from 106 samples. The major finding of this paper would be summarized as followed : And then it was used the empirical research method to test hypotheses which was established based on the precedent studies : 1) electronic trade factors are positively related to the trustworthness on the electronic trade practical, not being trustworthness of the functionality on electronic trade practical in international trade company. 2) tr stworthness of electronic trade practical is positively related to the e-loyalty in international trade companies.

Experience and Analysis of Pole Interaction for Jeju HVDC No. 2: Practical Solution for Non-Interruptible Power Transfer (제주 HVDC No. 2의 극간 상호작용 경험과 분석: 무정전 전력 송전을 위한 실용적 해결방안)

  • The pole interaction of the line-commutated converter high-voltage direct current (HVDC) is analyzed, and a practical solution that uses a surge arrester is proposed. Jeju HVDC No. 2 is a double-monopole HVDC link that has a rated power capacity of 2 × 200 MW and was commissioned in 2012. During normal operation, Jeju HVDC No. 2 is operated in the bipolar mode to minimize the loss caused by the dedicated metallic return. However, when one pole of the inverter valve is bypassed, a commutation failure can occur in the other pole. This phenomenon is called pole interaction in this work. This pole interaction interrupts the HVDC power transfer for almost 2 s and may affect the stability of the power system. This research proposes the installation of a surge arrester at the inverter neutral, which can be an effective and practical solution for pole interaction. The HVDC system is analyzed, and the residual voltage of the surge arrester is determined. Detailed simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC demonstrates that the proposed method eliminates the pole interaction of the bipolar-operated HVDC.
