  • Porous alumina was fabricated from pressureless powder packing forming method using powders granulated by spray drying. It was investigated the pore size distribution of fabricated porous alumina. The results of microstructural observation showed that intraganular pore size and intragranular pore size. At 1700$^{\circ}C$ there were no intragranular pores but it showed homogeneous distribution of intergranular pore size. The bending strength and shrinkage increased as porosity decreased. In case of thermal shock resistance sudden decrease of bending strength to $\Delta$T was not shown because intergranular large pore prevented sudden crack propagation.

  • Homogeneous and fine powders for Bi-2223 tape were prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (SP) method from an aqueous solution of metal nitrates. Bi-2223 precursor powders were synthesized with various solutes concentration and pyrolysis temperature. The synthesized precursor powders had a narrow particle size distribution and an average particle size was $\~{\cal}um$. The reactivity of precursor powder by SP method is very high, attributed to the fine and narrow particle size distribution. Bi-2223/Ag tape was prepared using PIT method and followed by various sintering conditions. The precursor powder by SP method promoted a very quick formation of the Bi-2223 phase for short sintering time while the secondary phase such as large AEC phase and $Ca_2PbO_4$ were minimized for SP tapes.

  • In this paper we have studied the effect of water droplet size on nano-particle size distribution using SMPS(Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer)system. It can be seen that the unknown peak at >100 nm was caused by water droplets which did not dry completely when DI water was used as a solvent in the SMPS system. Therefore, it is important to dry water droplets generated from atomizer in the SMPS system when measuring the particle size distribution using less than 100 nm nano-particles in diameter. From this study, It can be concluded that the napion was a useful material as dryer ones and using EAG(Electro Aerosol Generator) as a particle generator was the most effective in reducing the effect of water droplets.

  • Analysis of particle size distribution of a sample of fine aluminum hydroxide powder was carried out by four different methods, i. e., conductivity, air permeability, gas-adsorption and sedimentation. Each method was reproducible. The results obtained by Coulter counter and sedimentation balance were similar, and the data obtained by Lea and Nurse permeameter and Stroehlein areameter were also similar. But the results differ considerabley between the former and the latter. The advantages and disavantages of each method were discussed briefly and a means of comparing the results with those obtianed by surface area measurements was shown.

  • In this study, nano-sized cobalt oxide powder with an average particle size below 50 nm was prepared from a cobalt chloride solution by the spray pyrolysis process. The influences of reaction temperature on the properties of the generated powder were examined. The average particle size of the particles formed based on the spray pyrolysis process at a reaction temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ is roughly 20 nm. Moreover, most of these particles cannot appear with an independent type, thereby coexisting in a droplet type. When the reaction temperature increases to $800^{\circ}C$, the average particle size not only increases to roughly 40 nm but also shows a more dense structure while the ratio of particles which shows a polygonal form significantly increases. As the reaction temperature increases to $900^{\circ}C$, the distribution of the particles is from roughly 70 nm to 100 nm, while most of the particle surface is more intricately close and forms a polygonal shape. When the reaction temperature increases to $1000^{\circ}C$, the particle size distribution of the powder shows an existing form from 80 nm to at least 150 nm in an uneven form. As the reaction temperature increases, the XRD peak intensity gradually increases, yet the specific surface area gradually decreases.

  • For precise property control of sintered products, it is important to understand accurately the packing density of the powder. We developed a packing simulation program that could make a packed bed of spherical particles having particle size distribution. In addition, the influence of the particle shape of the actual powder on the packing density was quantitatively analyzed. The predicted packing densities corresponded well to the actual data.

  • Ultrafine $SnO_2$ powder was prepared by the diffusion mixing gas-phase reaction of $SnCl_4$(g) and water vapor. The effects of reaction variables, such as the chloride partial pressure, the reaction temperature, and the residence time is the reactor, on the powder size were examined systematically. Calculated concentration and distribution of chemical species, using the Burke-Schumann diffusion mixing model, were compared with the experimetal results. The effects of the reaction variables on the powder size were also discussed qualitatively.

  • In this study, particle size distribution of cement powder system were adjusted using the blast furnace slag powder, Blaine $2250cm^2/g\;and\;8300cm^2/g$, which easy to adjust particle size distribution to examine how particle size distribution of the binder has an effect on rheological properties of the cement paste. In addition, the relationship between n-value of Rosin-Rammler function and plastic viscosity were discussed. All measured flow curves represented thixotropy behavior and the hysteresis area was smaller for the more added coarse particle. When the combination was based on a ratio of $20{\sim}25vol%$ fine particles, $30{\sim}40vol%$ OPC and $40{\sim}45vol%$ coarse particles of the total volume, a high fluidity and low yield strength was achieved.

  • Characteristics of high density U-Mo alloy powder prepared by centrifugal atomization have been examined. The results indicate that the majority of the atomized U-Mo alloy particles has a smooth surface and frequently near-perfect spheroidal shape with few satellites attached. The size distribution of atomized U-Mo alloy powder shows the mono-modal size distribution seen in ligament disintegration mechanism. All phases of atomized alloy powder below 150$\mu\textrm{m}$ irrespectively to particle size are found to be ${\gamma}$-U (cubic structure) phases with isotropic structure and not to be U$_2$Mo phase at all. The microstructure of atomized U-Mo alloy particulates has micro-crystalline structure with non-dendritic gram supersaturated with Mo element. Also the grain size of ${\gamma}$ -U tends to decrease with the decrease of the powder diameter.

  • Accurate and effective powder compaction analyses are performed for brittle materials such as graphite, utilized as a solid lubricant, by using the discrete element method (DEM). The reliability of the DEM analysis is confirmed by comparing the results of graphite powder compaction analyses using the DEM particle bonding contact model and particle non-bonding contact model with those from the powder compaction experiment under the same conditions. To improve the characteristics, the parameters influencing the compaction properties of the metal-graphite mixtures are explored. The compressibility increases as the size distribution of the graphite powder increases, where the shape of the graphite particles is uniform. The improved compaction characteristics of the metal-graphite (bonding model) mixtures are further verified by the stress transmission and compressive force distribution between the top and bottom punches. It is confirmed that the application of graphite (bonding model) powders resulted in improved stress transmission and compressive force distribution of 24% and 85%, respectively.
