Synthesis and Characterization of Delafossite $CuLaO_2$ for Thermoelectric Application

  • The preparation of single-phase $CuLaO_2$ with delafossite-type structure by means of the solid-state reaction method was investigated using X-ray diffraction. The results showed that notwhistanding the fact that there was a trace of metallic copper, nearly single-phase $CuLaO_2$ was obtained by using $La(OH)_3$ as a lanthanum source and by firing the mixed powder with nonstoichiometric composition ratio of $La(OH)_3:Cu_2O=1:1.425$ in a vacuum at 1273 K for 10 h. The measurement of electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient showed that $CuLaO_2$ thus obtained was a p-type semiconductor and had a Seebeck coefficient of approximately $70{\mu}V/K$.

고주파유도가열 연소합성에 의한 치밀한 WSi2-20vol.%SiC 복합재료 제조 및 기계적 특성 (Fabrication and Mechanical Properties of Dense WSi2-20vol.%SiC Composite by High-Frequency Induction-Heated Combustion Synthesis)

  • Dense $WSi_2$-20vol.%SiC composite was synthesized by high-frequency induction-heated combustion synthesis(HFIHCS) method within 2 minutes in one step from elemental powder mixture of W, Si and C. Simultaneous combustion synthesis and densification were accomplished under the combined effects of an induced current and mechanical pressure. Highly dense $WSi_2$-20vol.%SiC with relative density of up to 97% was produced under simultaneous application of 60MPa pressure and the induced current. The average grain size of $WSi_2$ was about $5.2{\mu}m$. The hardness and fracture toughness values obtained were 1700kg/$mm^2$ and $4.4MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, respectively.

Functionalized Poplar Powder as a Support Material for Immobilization of Enoate Reductase and a Cofactor Regeneration System

  • In this study, functionalized poplar powder (FPP) was used as a support material for the immobilization of enoate reductase (ER) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (GDH) by covalent binding. Under optimal conditions, the immobilization efficiency of ER-FPP and GDH-FPP was 95.1% and 84.7%, and the activity recovery of ER and GDH was 47.5% and 37.8%, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis indicated that FPP was a suitable carrier for enzyme immobilization. ER-FPP and GDH-FPP exhibit excellent thermal stabilities and superior reusability. Especially, ER-FPP and GDH-FPP enable the continuous conversion of 4-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-3-buten-2-one with $NAD^+$ recycling. While the immobilization strategies established here were simple and inexpensive, they exploited a new method for the immobilization and application of ER and its cofactor recycling system.

  • Effect on hydrothermal treatment of lamellar vanadium oxides was investigated and the formation of hexagonal and cubic mesophase was found. This lamellar materials were prepared by mixing of cetyltrimethylammonium-bromide and pH-controlled sodium metavanadate solution. Thermal method and UV/O₃treatment were applied to extract organic template. The structure of resulting product was studied by powder X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

나노 다공질 FTO 제작 및 광전변환특성 고찰 (Synthesis of Nanoporous F:SnO2 Materials and its Photovoltaic Characteristic)

  • 본 연구에서는 염료 태양전지(Dye-sensitized solar cells; DSCs)에 적용하기 위한 나노-다공질의 FTO(F:$SnO_2$) 재료를 Sol-gel 연소법을 이용하여 다양한 열처리 온도를 변수로 제작하였으며, 각각의 결과물들에 대한 물성적 특성을 고찰하였다. FTO nano-powder는 SnCl4-98.0[%]와 HF-$48{\sim}51$[%]가 교반된 것에 NH4OH를 Sol-gel법의 촉매로 사용하였고, 첨가재로써 Ketjen Black을 사용하였다. 얻어진 결과물에 대한 XRD 측정 결과, 열처리 온도가 상승함에 따라 $SnO_2$의 회절각인 25.6[$^{\circ}$]($2{\Theta}$) 부근에서 강한 peak값이 나타났다. XPS 측정 결과에 의하면, 각각의 F1s, Sn 3d, O 1s의 binding energy는 682, 484, 528[eV]에서 광전자 피크가 확인되었다. 열처리 온도가 증가함에 따라 표면적이 감소하며, pore size는 증가함을 BET측정 결과로 알 수 있었다. 본 실험을 통해 열처리 온도조절에 따른 나노-다공성 FTO powder의 특성제어가 용이함이 확인되었고, Sol-gel 연소법에 의한 간단하고 효과적인 방법으로 나노-다공성 소재의 제작이 가능하여, DSCs의 응용에도 유용할 것으로 기대된다.

Thrombin Powder와 Gelfoam Powder의 혼합물을 이용한 노출된 망상골면 출혈의 지혈효과 (Effect of the Mixture of Thrombin Powder and Gelfoam Powder on Control of Exposed Cancellous Bone Bleeding)

  • Objective : Excessive bleeding from the exposed cancellous bone surface may cause serious problem such as hematoma formation, infection, transfusion reaction during operation and postoperative period. There are several kinds of bleeding control agent on the cancellous bone surface including bone wax, gelatin sponge ($Gelfoam^{(R)}$), oxidized cellulose($Oxycel^{(R)}$, $Surgicel^{(R)}$), thrombin, microfibrillar collagen($Avitene^{(R)}$) etc. In the past, bone wax was used to control bone bleeding but it is associated with increased infection rate and fusion failure. Recently, gelfoam paste has been used to control cancellous bone bleeding. We controlled the cancellous bone bleeding with the mixture of gelfoam powder and thrombin powder. Material and Methods : Seventeen patients of posterior fusion on the 4 motion segments of thoracolumbar spine were selected to compare the result of bone bleeding control. In the test group of 9 patients, the cancellous bone bleeding was controlled with the mixture of Gelfoam and thrombin powder during operation. In the control group of 8 cases, no chemical hemostatic agent was used to manage the bone bleeding during operation. We calculated the total amount of bleeding from cancellous bone surface during and after operation in the two groups and compared their statistic significance of the result which was judged by student t-test. Results : The average amount of intraoperative bleeding was 1825ml in control group, 811ml in test group(p<0.01). The amount of postoperative bleeding was 943ml in control group and 812ml in test group, there were no significant difference in the amount of bleeding during postoperative period between two groups(p>0.5). Total amount of blood was decreased in as much as 1150ml in test group(p<0.01). Conclusion : We concluded that the application of the mixture of thrombin and gelfoam powder on the cancellous bone surface is the effective control method of cancellous bone bleeding for multilevel posterior spinal fusion.

Manufacturing properties of γ-dicalcium silicate with synthetic method

  • γ-dicalcium silicate(γ-C2S) is known as a polymorphism of belite. Due to its high CO2 fixed capacity and the low CO2 emission production process, γ-C2S has attracted more and more attention of researchers. For the further development of application of γ-C2S in building construction industry. In this study, we aim to investigate the method for synthesizing high purity of γ-C2S. The influence of different raw materials and calcination temperatures on the purity of γ-C2S was also evaluated. Several Ca bearing materials were selected as the calcium source, the materials which' s main component is SiO2 were used as the silicon source. Raw materials were mixed and were calcined under different temperatures. The results reveal that the highest purity could be obtained using Ca(OH)2 and SiO2 powder as raw materials. And for the practical application, a relatively economic synthesis method using natural mineral materials- limestone and silica sand as raw materials was developed, by this method, the purity of the synthetic γ-C2S was 77.6%.

  • Using the pulsed current activated sintering method, the WC-10wt.% Co materials were densified using a WC and Co powder. The WC-Co almost completely dense with a relative density of up to 99.5 % after the simultaneous application of a pressure of 60 MPa and an electric current for 3 minutes almost without any significant change in the grain size. The average grain size of about $0.3{\mu}m$. The hardness and fracture toughness at $1000^{\circ}C$ were about $2200kg/mm^2$ and $9.8MPa.m^{1/2}$, respectively.

Synthesis of Calcium Phosphate Minerals from Biowaste Clam Shells Using Microwave Heating

  • Calcium phosphate minerals are biologically important because of their application in the fields of orthopaedics and dentistry. Herein we have tried to synthesize calcium phosphate minerals from biowaste clam shells. A simple microwave method was used to synthesize a mixture of calcium phosphate minerals such as hydroxyapatite, tri-calcium phosphate, and monetite. The microwave induces vibration of the dipole ions in the reagent. The heating and rearrangement of ions and atoms occurs during the process. The phases obtained in the final powder were ascertained by X-ray diffraction; the morphology of each sample was checked using a scanning electron microscope. We were able to obtain a mixture of calcium phosphate minerals using the microwave method; the calcined powder showed a brick like morphology, which is different from the rod shape morphology of the hydroxyapatite obtained using the hydrothermal process.

양극산화법에 의한 TiO2 나노튜브 어레이의 제조와 성장거동 (Fabrication and Growth Behavior of TiO2 Nanotube Arrays by Anodic Oxidation Method)

  • Recently, $TiO_2$ nanotubes have considerably researched because of their novel application about photocatalysis, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), lithium ion battery, etc. In this work, self-standing $TiO_2$ nanotube arrays were fabricated by anodic oxidation method using pure Ti foil as a working electrode in ethylene glycole with 0.3M $NH_4F$ + $2%H_2O$. Growth behavior of $TiO_2$ nanotube arrays was compared according to temperature, voltage and time. The morphology, structure and crystalline of anodized $TiO_2$ nanotube arrays were observed by FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscope) and XRD (X-ray diffraction).
