  • This paper discusses the problem of positive real control for uncertain 2-D linear discrete time singular Roesser models (2-D SRM) with time-invariant norm-bounded parameter uncertainty. The purpose of this study is to design a state feedback controller such that the resulting closed-loop system is acceptable, jump modes free and stable, and achieves the extended strictly positive realness for all admissible uncertainties. A version of positive real lemma for the 2-D SRM is given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Based on the lemma, a sufficient condition for the solvability of the positive real control problem is derived in terms of bilinear matrix inequalities (BMIs) and an iterative procedure for solving the BMIs is proposed.

  • A study on the occurrence of hepatitis B has been done for 2,680 employees in Daehan Life Insurance Company. The positive rates of HBsAg and anti-HBs were 6.56% and 18.9% respectively. The positive rates of HBsAg and anti-HBs were higher by 2.25% and 2.06% respectively in male than in female. HBsAg and anti-HBs positives were higher at age of 30 to 50 years than other age groups. The drinker group shows higher positive of HBsAg and anti-HBs by 10.44% and 4.26% respectively than non-drinker group. Most of the results of liver function tests in HBsAg positive cases were within reference ranges. HBsAg or anti-HBs positive rate in the family members of HBsAg or anti-HBs positive employees was higher than the over-all positive rates of all subjects, by 14.55% in case of HBsAg and by 2.21% in case of Anti-HBs.

  • In the last years there has been growing interest in concepts of positive (negative) dependence of stochastic processes such that concepts are considerable us in deriving inequalities in probability and statistics. Lehmann [7] introduced various concepts of positive(negative) dependence in the bivariate case. Stronger notions of bivariate positive(negative) dependence were later developed by Esary and Proschan [6]. Ahmed et al.[2], and Ebrahimi and Ghosh[5] obtained multivariate versions of various positive(negative) dependence as described by Lehmann[7] and Esary and Proschan[6]. Concepts of positive(negative) dependence for random variables have subsequently been extended to stochastic processes in different directions by many authors.

  • In this paper, the necessary and sufficient conditions for strict positive realness of the rational transfer functions directly from basic definitions in the frequency domain are studied. A new frequency domain approach is used to check if a rational transfer function is a strictly positive real or not. This approach is based on the Taylor expansion and the Maximum Modulus Principle which are the fundamental tools in the complex functions analysis. Four related common statements in the strict positive realness literature which is appeared in the control theory are discussed. The drawback of these common statements is analyzed through some counter examples. Moreover a new necessary condition for strict positive realness is obtained from high frequency behavior of the Nyquist diagram of the transfer function. Finally a more simplified and completed conditions for strict positive realness of single-input single-output linear time-invariant systems are presented based on the complex functions analysis approach.

  • This study focused on the relationship among playfulness in teachers, teaching efficacy on play and teachers' positive play beliefs in a sample of 151 teachers working childcare center in Seoul and Chungcheungnam-do. The collected data were analyzed using simple regression and hierarchical multiple regression. The main results of this study were as follows. First, teachers' playfulness had a positive influence on their positive play beliefs. Second, teachers' playfulness had a positive influence on their teaching efficacy on play. Finally, effect of teachers' playfulness on their teaching efficacy on children's play was totally mediated by their positive play beliefs.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of positive thinking and self-esteem on school adaptation among freshmen in a nursing department. Methods: Data were collected by questionnaires from 172 nursing students in the month of December 2017. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: A positive correlation was found for school adaptation with positive thinking and self-esteem. Positive thinking, self-esteem, major satisfaction and interpersonal relationships were all significant predictors of school adaptation. The model explained 43.6% of the variables. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that positive thinking should be considered when developing strategies to increase school adaptation among freshmen in nursing departments.

  • This study examined the influences of demographic variables, parent-adolescent conversation time, and open communication on the positive psychological capital of adolescents. The data were collected from 243 middle school students living in Gwangju from December 23, 2019, to January 3, 2020. Data were analyzed using correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. The results can be summarized as follows. First, with economic condition, academic achievement, parent-adolescent conversation time, and open communication, positive psychological capital showed significant difference statistically. Second, father-adolescent open communication best explained positive psychological capital, followed by academic achievement, and mother-adolescent open communication. The results highlight the important roles played by parent-adolescent open communication and academic achievement in improving adolescents'positive psychological capital. The study contributes to the literature by providing fundamental insights into adolescents'positive psychological capital.

  • Current studies validate the Body Positive Scale (BP Scale) as a self-assessment instrument that captures four dimensions of the positive body image construct. We developed and evaluated a 17-item BP Scale using two focus group interviews and four independent samples (n = 1,379) of Korean women who completed online survey questionnaires. We generated an initial pool of items via literature review, content validation with experts, and focus group interviews, subsequently refining the items through exploratory analysis (Study 1). We confirmed the BP Scale's underlying dimensions with young Korean female samples (Study 2, Study 4) and with a community sample (Study 3). We also examined the construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability over a six-week interval. Overall, the results supported that the four-factor BP Scale demonstrates adequate validity and reliability in measuring positive body image among Korean women. The BP Scale provides a method for researchers and practitioners to understand and assess individuals' positive body image in a multifaceted manner.
