A Basic Study on the Architectural Planning of Outdoor Space for the Elderly with Dementia (치매요양시설의 옥외공간 조성에 관한 기초연구)

  • The Outdoor space is an essential element among healing environments for older people. The purpose of this study is to identify outdoor design issues which can improve the health conditions of the elderly living in nursing home. At first, the design principles of outdoor space for the mentally ill have been collected from the literature survey. Secondary, outdoor design requirements for the care program in nursing homes have been explored. Thirdly, good design elements have been collected from 6 nursing homes which have good outdoor space. Finally, Basic design principles of outdoor space of nursing homes in which older people with dementia live have been proposed by analysis and synthesis on the three stages before. As a result of this study, 6 dimensions in architectural planning of outdoor space for nursing homes have been presented : safety environment, various sensual stimulation, social interactions, support physical ability, accessibility, meditation.

Coding of students′ thinking process in Polya′s stages of problem solving (Polya의 문제해결 각 단계에서 학생들이 보인 사고과정의 코드화)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze thinking process in problem solving and to get some teaching materials to improve students' problem solving abilities. For this study, 14 girl and boy students in highschool were tested with 7 testing questions. The whole process of students' problem solving was observed by using 'Thinking aloud', recorded by Audio Tape and finally drawn up to Protocol. On the basis of that Protocol, coding system was set up and characteristics of thinking process in each stage were analyzed. -In the stage of planning, successful problem solvers tried to check the properties of words included in problems(Pr) and made it clear that they were seeking(O) -In the stage of planning, students used abstraction strategy(Ab, making equation(E) or using variable(V)) appropriately could solve more difficult problems. Successful problem solvers turned used unsystematical trial into systematical method and were good at using partial objects, assistant factors. - In the stage of carring out the plan, successful problem solvers to reduce the error, check the purpose, used formula, knowledge and calculation. -In the looking back stage, successful problem solvers generalized the answer and checked the total process.

Color Assortment Decision Factors Considered by Women's Clothing Merchandisers in Korea & United States

  • This research was designed to find decision factors through color assortment planning process by Korean women's clothing merchandisers and to look for if there exists difference with American women's clothing merchandisers. A merchandise assortment is a collection of various quantities of styles, colors, sizes, and prices of related merchandise, usually grouped under one classification within a department. The subjects were 20 women's clothing merchandisers who work for clothing retail stores from 5 to 22 years in US and Korea. The authoring process was done for qualitative data analysis. The decision factors of color assortment planning were identified with four stages; information search, qualitative evaluation, quantitative evaluation, and selection. There were differences of color assortment decision factors due to different business types, business sizes, fashion-ability, sourcing ways, and merchandise turnover. Noticeable color assortment decision factor differences caused by country difference were not found except considering the target market ethnicity and skin color in US market. Korea merchandisers seem to be more sensitive to present sales data usages and spot order availability in color assortments because of more local production use than American merchandisers.

  • This is to constitute strategic system and strategies for building family-friendly cultural change in workplace. For purpose, the reason and agent for change, the models and stages of change, the strategies for change process, and the barriers and facilitators of change are discussed. The strategic system is divided into two parts: planning and implementing. Planning includes need & resource assessment, and research & project office. Implementing includes program implementation, monitoring & feedback, communication, and barriers & facilitators. This study from literature review can be used preliminary test to the cultural change process of workplace.

  • This paper presents a competency-based system for supporting corporate strategic information system planning. This system is implemented in practice via a detailed three stage methodology. The three stages are defining current business, analyzing competency, and suggesting To-Be enablers. The business objectives are evaluated on competencies in terms of experts' preference information about degree of importance between competencies on them. This system provides an efficient, systematic and structured framework and helps dramatically reduce the time needed to plan strategic information system.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of the pre-design of brownfield's by comparing LDA, EPA, and BRA of UK and USA in terms of establish mainbody, brownfield information, development process, opening development information. Such analysis will generate important implications for the development and renewal of brownfield in Korea by gaining insights into the characteristics of brownfield that reflect systematic and effective management and planning for urban renewal. The findings from this study indicate that: 1. Information on brownfield plays an important role at the development and planning stages that precede architectural design. 2. There is a great need for organizations that are responsible for brownfield renewal, such as LDA of UK, EPA and BRA of USA, in Korea, to make information public and to practice systematic management. 3. Discussion on the pre-design that follows contamination and renewal of brownfield and the developmental strategies that satisfy both the developmental and public profits are warranted.

  • The main purpose of this study is to review the current system and to develop a decision support system for evaluating the priorities among those possible alternatives in the army facility enterprise. This paper also provides an information system which can be effectively applied to various criteria and stages in decision making process such as Planning and Programming phases in PPBEES. The model base of decision support systems uses the concepts of the analytic hierarchy process along with the supplementary techniques such as TOPSIS and 0-1 integer programming. Both AHP and TOPSIS are used scoring approaches in the Planning phase and IP is induced at the Programming phase to give GO/NO-GO solution for each project. We use Expert Choice, Excel and LINDO s/w's to implement a prototyped model. The proposed methodology in this paper enables the decision makers to evaluate the priority based on quantitative and qualitative data in a systematic way.

  • In this paper, we construct a prototype model for city data prediction by using time series data of floating population, and use machine learning to analyze urban data of complex structure. A correlation prediction model was constructed using three of the 10 data (total flow population, male flow population, and Monday flow population), and the result was compared with the actual data. The results of the accuracy were evaluated. The results of this study show that the predicted model of the floating population predicts the correlation between the predicted floating population and the current state of commerce. It is expected that it will help efficient and objective design in the planning stages of architecture, landscape, and urban areas such as tree environment design and layout of trails. Also, it is expected that the dynamic population prediction using multivariate time series data and collected location data will be able to perform integrated simulation with time series data of various fields.

  • The sudden changes in the construction market and the progressively intensifying price wars have amplified the importance of the construction cost estimation in the initial and planning phases of construction projects. However the methodologies and process of estimating construction cost in the planning and design phase are not standardized in the domestic market, in contrast to the markets of more developed countries. Therefore this paper proposes a new approximate estimation model to be used from the initial stages of construction projects. This methodology that extracts, modifies and synthesizes comparable elements of previous cases. This will introduce the foundation for the implementation of systems with improved usability and applicability.

  • An important decision-making element for the success of housing redevelopment projects is a prediction of the profitability of redevelopment. Risk factors influencing profitability were deduced through a review of the literature about profitability and a risk analysis developed by a survey of maintenance projects. In addition, a profitability prediction depending on the analysis of risk factors is necessary to judge the business feasibility of a project in the planning stages. A profitability prediction model of management and disposal method, which is calculated by proportional rate and which helps estimate contributions to profitability, is proposed to prevent difficulties in business development. The proposed model has the potential to prevent interruptions, reduce the length of projects, generate cost savings, and enable rational decision-making during the project period by allowing a judgment of profitability at the planning stage.
