  • In this study, we simulated water temperature in the downstream according to withdrawal types of dam using EFDC model. Three scenarios were assumed as water was released from the surface layer, the middle layer, and the bottom layer at intervals of 10m depth. In case of the surface layer withdrawal, the water temperature rose from March and lowered gradually after it reached a peak in August. The middle and the bottom layers effluence temperatures were lower than the surface layer temperature by maximum $15.9^{\circ}C$(in July), but after September, temperature inversion appeared. It was advantageous for the surface layer withdrawal to decrease cold damage and fog in downstream area and was possible to the middle and the bottom layers withdrawal from August to September. However, the reliability of model should be improved by accumulating the real-time information of water temperature.

  • This paper presents a methodology for Initial Orbit Determination (IOD) based on a modification of the Laplace's geocentric method. The orbital elements for Near-Earth asteroids (1864) Daedalus, 2003 GW, 2019 JA8, a Hungaria-type asteroid (4690) Strasbourg, and the asteroids of the Main Belt (1738) Oosterhoff, (2717) Tellervo, (1568) Aisleen and (2235) Vittore were calculated. Input data observations from the Minor Planet Center MPC database and Astronomical Observatory of the Technological University of Pereira (OAUTP; MPC code W63) were used. These observations cover observation arcs of less than 22 days. The orbital errors, in terms of shape and orientation for the estimated orbits of the asteroids, were calculated. The shape error was less than 53 × 10-3 AU, except for the asteroid 2019 JA8. On the other hand, errors in orientation were less than 0.1 rad, except for (4690) Strasbourg. Additionally, we estimated ephemerides for all bodies for up to two months. When compared with actual ephemerides, the errors found allowed us to conclude that these bodies can be recovered in a field of vision of 95' × 72' (OAUTP field). This shows that Laplace's method, though simple, may still be useful in the IOD study, especially for observatories that initiate programs of minor bodies observation.

  • Detection of spectral bio-signatures from extra terrestrial planets has received an increasing attention from the astronomy and space science communities in recent years. In an attempt to better-understand disk averaged spectra of the only know terrestrial planet i.e. Earth, we are constructing a scale-able 3D earth model with surface reflectance and scattering properties. The USGS coastal line data were used to form coastal line segments and they were then stitched to generate continuous coastal lines to represent major continents and large islands. As the first stage of model verification, wavelength dependent ocean and land reflectance data and scattering characteristics were defined over the land and sea surfaces respectively. We then performed ray tracing based imaging and radiometric transfer simulations using a hypothetical optical payload receiving the reflected and scattered sun lights from the earth. The model concept, computational details, the simulation results are discussed as well as the future development plan.

  • Planetary gearing is a gear system consisting of one or more planet gears, revolving about a sun gear. While the planetary gear system has many advantages- for example, high power density, large reduction in a small volume, multiple kinematic combinations, pure torsional reactions, and coaxial shafting, it has not been widely used because of its high bearing loads, inaccessibility, and design complexity. It is also necessary to shift several pairs of gear profiles at a same time. Therefore, designing profile shifted planetary gear system is a difficult and know-how dependent job. This study provides a practical solution to design a profile shifted gear system by the procedural design scheme, and proposes a bearing integrated structure of the dual stage profile shifted gear system with a robust output end. A dual stage profile shifted gear system with the bearing integrated structure is manufactured by the proposed design scheme in this study. This gear system is verified that it is good enough to commercialize, because it has high performance with high gear ratio and robust output end against axial and radial directional runouts in a small space.

  • In this paper, the low voltage linear tunable transconductors using the series composite transistor are presented. Due to the series composite transistor operating in the saturation region and the triode region, the proposed circuits have wide input range at low supply voltage. The designed transconductors have been simulated by HSPICE using $0.25{\mu}m$ n-welll CMOS process. Simulation results show that the cutoff frequency is 309M Hz and the THD of less than 1.1% can be obtained for the differential input signal of up to l.5VP-P with the input signal frequency of l0MHz.

  • The exploitation of the natural resources of the Moon and other celestial bodies represents one of the most exiting future developments in the field of space law as well as a unique occasion for the economic and social growth of mankind as a whole. The large number of benefits that are expected to be generated from the exploitation of these resources, indeed, not only will contribute to the betterment of conditions of people on Earth but also will allow mankind to face and likely solve one of the biggest problems currently affecting our planet, namely the exhaustion of the stocks of raw materials and other source of energy, such as fossil fuels. The exploitation of the natural resources of the Moon and other celestial bodies, however, has been prevented so far by the absence of dedicated space law rules allowing its orderly and peaceful development and clarifying the rights and duties of the parties involved in it. Due to the uncertainty generated by the absence of these rules, indeed, States as well as private operators have refrained from investing in the exploitation of space resources so far. The time to change this situation and to allow the exploitation of extraterrestrial resources to begin has finally come. This paper aims at fulfilling this purpose by proposing a legal regime containing specific and detailed rules to regulate the exploitation of the natural resources of the Moon and other celestial bodies.

  • Recently, the applications of unmanned robots are increasing in various fields including surveillance and reconnaissance, planet exploration and disaster relief. To perform their missions with success, the robots should be able to evaluate terrain's characteristics quantitatively and identify traversable regions to progress toward a goal using mounted sensors. Recently, the authors have proposed techniques that extract terrain information and analyze traversability for off-road navigation of an unmanned robot. In this paper, we examine the use of 3D world models(terrain maps) to classify obstacle and safe terrain for increasing the reliability of the proposed techniques. A world model is divided into several patches and each patch is classified as belonging either to an obstacle or a non-obstacle using three types of metrics. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified on real terrain maps.

  • We study the photometric phase curves for the planets of our solar system which can be considered as a prototypical non-compact planetary system. We focus on modeling the small variations caused by three effects: reflection, ellipsoidal, and Doppler beaming. Theoretical predictions for these photometric variations are proposed, considering a hypothetical external observer. Unlike similar studies of multi-planetary systems, the physical and geometrical parameters for each planet of the solar system are well-known. Therefore, we can accurately evaluate the relationships that shape the planetary light curves for a fictitious external observer. Our results suggest that, for all planets, the ellipsoidal effect is very weak while the Doppler beaming effect (DBE) is, in general, dominant. In fact, the DBE seems to be the principal cause of variations of the light curves for the planets of the solar system. However, for Mercury and Venus the Doppler beaming and reflection effects have similar amplitudes. The phase curves obtained for the planets of the solar system show new interesting features of interest for the study of other non-compact planetary systems.

  • Semi-analytical methodology to examine the dynamic responses of a bridge is developed via the joint probability density function. The evolution of joint probability density function is evaluated by the semi-analytical procedure developed. The joint probability function of the bridge responses can be obtained by solving the path-integral solution of the Fokker-Planet equation corresponding to the stochastic differential equations of the system. The response characteristics are observed from the joint probability density function and the boundary of the envelope of the probability density function can provide the maxima ol the bridge responses.

  • In the case of 4 wheel drive (4-WD) type car, power switching occurs to 4-WD by operating lever or switch that operates power switching device attached in transfer case which can operate motor by electric signal. So if the RPM of motor is high, power switching will not exactly occur and can cause damage to gear in transfer case according to circumstances. So in this study, we applied 2 level of planet gear type motor spindle of motor drive part of a power train. And conducted decelerating to increase torque to switch power safe and accurately. Also, we researched efficiency of gear by designing reduction gear ratio and gear type and by calculating contact stress and bending strength. Based on researched content, we made drive head of power switching device and a reduction module which uses type that uses motor spindle as sun gear and ring gear as cover.
