The Extrinsic Characteristics of the Imaginary Friend in the Picture Books (그림책에 나타난 상상친구의 외적 특성)

  • This research is to study about the extrinsic characteristics of imaginary friends in the picture books which are published in Korea and its publishing trend. At first, the pioneering country which is publishing picture books telling about the imaginary friend belongs to the western countries, and some part of them are printed in Japan and Korea among east asia, and its story is most likely fiction, since 2000, the picture books about the imaginary friends have been steadily published. Secondly, its extrinsic characteristics among them are the gender, name of the main character and his/her imaginary friends, and whether the imaginary friend present themselves, their physical types, and the numbers of imaginary friends in the picture books. The percentage of gender between man and woman who is more likely to have the imaginary friends in the picture books are higher to girls than boys, and their imaginary friends are to be called by the intimate or unique name rather than the its general name and/or the name reflected by it appearance, and the imaginary friend are only visible to the main character, and its type are widely ranged from animal, human, and others in frequent order, and the main character tend to have only one imgainary friend rather than to have multiple ones.

  • This study aims at analyzing educational effects of the horticultural picture books, which are depending on B.S. Bloom's taxonomy of educational objectives. After collecting various horticulture-related picture books, this study classified them by the B.S bloom's educational taxonomy. There were objectives of the cognitive domain, objectives of the affective domain, psychomotor domain in plants and gardening activities. And the cognitive domain, affective domain, psychomotor domain subdivided into the sub-region can learn from the horticulture picture books to teach the unique characteristics could be found. To know the teachers' perceptions of the effectiveness of using picture books in the horticulture class, questionnaire were analyzed from the survey. As a result, by Bloom's educational taxonomy area they preferred children's books. Teacher think that fairy tale books promote the interest of the children and have the advantage of fostering creativity. In addition, an easy point to get in school, lack of hours in the effective education to help horticulture that was expected. The cognitions of most effective storytelling method of horticulture picture book was story immersion. And the effective activity after reading picture book was drawing picture. Also, the most effective teaching materials was a real-life picture.

A Content Analysis of Picture Book Reviews in Korean Periodicals (국내 정기간행물에 나타난 그림책 서평의 내용분석)

  • In this study, the picture book reviews shown in Korean periodicals were analyzed to provide the developmental foundation for picture book reviews and expand the professional area of librarians as the producers of book review. Through the literature research and the Delphi Technique the desirable standard of book reviews was suggested, the contents in domestic book review mediums were analyzed for the rightness of describing based on the standard of the book review and henceforward the way of development was suggested. The result from analysis of book review showed that the outstanding book reviews should be more produced based on the desirable standard of book review and the evaluative statements should be developed more than the descriptive statements. Depending on the mediums the contents of the book review were different by the book reviewers' occupations, so the book reviewers should develop their professional knowledges in literature and art. Because the longer book review made the outstanding book review with the rightness of the desirable standard of book review, the certain quantity of book review should be needed and the role of librarians as the book reviewers should be further extended.

  • This study analyzed picture book "Who Pooped on my Head?" by using semiotic theories and considered involved meaning of the text. Because characteristics of children's development and picture book should be in harmony, it is necessary to understand the text in-depth. As a result of analysis, the text helps psychological stability and contains the meaning and value that guides children into social value or norm. Analyzing the text by using Greimas' Semiotic square, the meaning that following bowel movement standard is socially established behavior was involved. It seems that giving up instinct and accepting standard are process to extend thought. In conclusion, this study confirmed that the meaning and value that support cognitive and emotional development was contained in the picture book, "Who Pooped on my Head?".

The Development and Validity of the Parent's Literacy Interaction Rating Scale for Preschool Children (만 3~5세 유아를 위한 부모 문해 상호작용 평정척도 개발 및 타당화 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a scale for evaluation of Parent's Literacy Interaction Rating Scale (PLIRS) for preschool children and to examine its validity and reliability. The participants of this study were 342 Korean mothers with children of 3 to 5 year olds. The methods for data analysis included item analysis, factor analysis for construct validity, Pearson correlations between PLIRS and two sub tests of EC-HOME for concurrent validity, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for reliability. The item discrimination was determined by comparing the highest and lowest groups using Chi-square (${\chi}^2$), and Cramer's V. The 25 items of the scale were found to be satisfactory in item discrimination. The concurrent validity was also identified by correlation between PLIRS and two sub tests of EC-HOME. Factor analysis revealed that the structure of the PLIRS consisted of three factors: 'open interaction', 'directive interaction', and 'picture-book reading interaction'. 'Open interaction' is based on 'Whole Language Approach', such as 'I have my child write as he/she likes even if they spell wrongly.' 'Directive interaction' is based on 'Code Emphasis Approach', such as 'I have my child take dictation.' 'Picture-book reading interaction' is how parents read picture-book with her/his children, such as 'When I read a picture book to my child, I ask various questions about a book story.' The Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for internal consistency reliability range was .78 to .87 for three subscales. It was concluded that PLIRS was valid and reliable to examine the literacy interaction between parents and children in home.

  • Concrete is a representative heterogeneous material and mechanical properties of concrete are influenced by various factors. Due to the fact that pores in concrete affect determining compressive strength of concrete, studies which deal with distribution and magnitudes of pores are very important. That way, studies using picture imaging have been emerged. Studies on mechanical performance evaluation of structural lightweight foamed concrete and FEM analysis based on picture image are inadequate because lightweight foamed concrete has been researched for only non-structural. Therefore, in this study, cement paste with foaming agent to evaluate mechanical performance is made, FEM analysis with picture image is conducted and young's modulus of experiment and analysis are compared. In this study, dosage of foaming agent is determined 7 level to check pore distribution and water-binder ratio is determined 20% to progress research about structural light weight foamed concrete. Weight of unit volume is minimum at 0.8% of foaming agent dosage. However, weight of unit volume is increased over 0.8% of foaming agent dosage because of interconnection with independent pores. For FEM analysis, cement paste is photographed to use image analyzer(HF-MA C01). Consequently, the fact that Young's Modulus of experiment and FEM analysis are same is drawn by using OOF(Object Oriented Finite elements).

  • The descendants have a responsibility to conserve their cultural treasure and hand it down to posterity. Most of existing wooden properties, affected by environmental factors for many years, have been rebuilt or repaired many times. Kwandeogjeong, Cultural Properties Materials 322, has gone through rebuilding or repairing 11 times. It was natural that Kwandeogjeong lost its originality and attempt to restore it was made by Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea. But the restoration depends on a piece of picture, which was taken before 1900. It had been impossible to draw any data from the picture for restoration. In this study, I was able to obtain data for its restoration through geometrical analysis, using the vanishing point of the picture. These data were also used as preliminary data for its restoration.

A Study on the Image Perception of Men's Casual Wear Using Photograph and Computer Simulation Picture (실물사진과 컴퓨터그림에 의한 남성 캐주얼웨어 이미지 지각 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the types and the colors of men's casual wear, hairstyles, and the methods of stimulus manufacture on men's image perception. The subjects were 360 women from the metropolitan area of Seoul. The clothing types used for the study were a sweater and a jumper(casual jacket) with jean pants. The clothing colors were beige, indigo, and red. Two hairstyles, the short and the medium length hairs, were compared. Two types of stimuli, the photograph and the computer simulation picture, were used. The results of the factor analysis disclosed five dimensions on men's image: neatness, individuality, ability, activity, and sociability. In general, the photograph stimuli were evaluated more positively in activity, individuality, and sociability than the picture stimuli. The sweaters were perceived higher in ability, activity, and sociability than the jumpers. The Indigo color was evaluated as neat. The medium length hairstyles were perceived as neat and the short hairstyles were perceived as sociable. The jumpers were evaluated lower in individuality in the picture stimuli than in the photograph stimuli. The beige and indigo colors were evaluated to be neater in the picture stimuli than in the photograph. When using the picture stimuli, the men's image wearing the sweaters with the medium length hairstyles were evaluated lower in individuality. When using the photograph stimuli, the men's image wearing the sweater with the short hairstyles were evaluated higher in activity. Men's image wearing the indigo jumper and the beige sweater with medium length hairs were evaluated as high in neatness.

A Study on the Visual Evaluation for the combination of 'Clothing and Ground' (의복, 배경의 조합에 따른 시각적 이미지 연구(제2보))

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of the visual evaluation for the Picture image combination of Clothing and Ground. Mdern and strong images formed charming urban and cool visual images with urban and neat artificial backgrounds. Mature images were created with romantic and static artificial backgrounds. Mannish straight and conservative images created charming and rigid visual images in urban and formatted artificial background. Using a white natural background for the urban style created a cool visual image. The use of an interior background lead to warmer images and more defination lines Causal images created a rural and warm image which expressed charm and a soft visual while using a rural and natural background. A most unharmonious and hard image was created when using an urban and formatted artificial background. The coolest visual image was created with a cool and natural background. Feminine and flawless images created urban and neat visual image using an urban and formatted artificial background. The connection between illustrations and contents in elementary mathematics textbooks (초등학교 수학교과서 그림과 내용의 연계성)

  • The picture of the mathematics curriculum should carry the complex role of relieving the difficulties of mathematics while conveying the core of the mathematics contents well. This study examined the precedence of picture and text harmony and the importance of emotional expression. The discussion of children's picture books became an important reference in this process. The understanding of the child's psychology and cognitive characteristics in the long history of picture books and the insight into the relationship between text and pictures will be important guidelines for elementary school textbooks. Based on these previous studies, this study found some impressive examples of Chinese, Japanese, Indian, and American textbooks on the two complementary relationships between paintings and texts and emotional expressions of paintings. If necessary, we compared these textbooks with Korean textbooks. Through this analysis, this study draws some implications for Korean textbook drawing and textbook production process. That is, the process of reading the picture and interpreting its meaning should be treated as part of the study of mathematics. The mathematical concepts to be dealt with or the sentence description of the problem should be concurrent with the design of the picture. The monotonous expressions and dialogues of characters in textbooks should be avoided, and the personality and emotions of characters should be more abundant and freely expressive.
