  • As the interest in environmental problems increased, the guideline of effluent qualities becomes strict and the amount of sludge produced from the wastewater treatment facilities steeply increased. The revised Korean acts prohibit the direct reclamation of the sludge exhausted in sewage treatment works from 2003, and the ocean dump of sludge will be also prohibited from 2012. Therefore, the sludge must be recycled, incinerated or composted. To properly perform the utilization and disposal operations, the establishment of well-defined procedures for the characterization of sludge by physical, chemical and biological method and setting up of guidelines for different treatment and disposal routes has become necessary. However, there have not been such standardized methods for sludge characterization in Korea. This review analyzes the present status of establishment and problems of sludge characterization method of Korea. Finally, it was proposed total 15 items of standardized characterization methods suitable to our country for proper sludge recycling and disposal, which was based on the more systematic standard methods of Germany (DIN 38414) and those of advanced nations.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the collection Efficiency of mass in collector step at the different of physical gas characterization. This work has focused on the dependence of the collection efficiency of mass in the collector zone of a two-stage set up field with gas temperature T and the dew point tmeperature. To identify the dependence of the mass collection efficiency on the Bounded plate of the collector zone MP.k by the spectre electric resistance of dust $p_e$. and the relative humidify ${\varphi}$, 20 at- tempts have been made with three different gas temperature ($50{\circ}C, 80{\circ}C, 110{\circ}C$) at different dew point. At the specific electric resistance of dust $p_e$=$10^6{\Omega}m$ which relative humidity corresponds to $\phi$ > 15%, a easy rise of the sounded plate secluded dust mass share was measured atwain. As the result of the higher cohesion imprisonment power due to the adsorbtion of particle, the rinse of the relative humidity developed on the particle surface. Therefore, the collection efficiency of mass was not predominant the high temperature T in the collector zone, neither was the pecific ellectric resistance of dust dependent.

  • In order to effectively utilize fish(Cod, Gadus macrocephalus) bone obtained as fish waste in fish manufactory, the preparation of the fish bone gelatin were attempted by heat extracting method from collagen protein contained in the fish bone. The methods of two kinds pretreatments (the B-type by alkali pretreatment and the E-type by enzyme pretreatment) for fish bone and the optimal extraction conditions to prepare gelatin from pretreated fish bone were investigated. Physical properties and functionalities of the two type fish bone gelatins obtained were compared with the commercial gelatin and the fish skin gelatin. The optimal extraction conditions of the B-type and the E-type gelatins were 5 folds of added water with material(w/w), pH 5.0, 3 hrs of extraction time and 60$\circ$C of extraction temperature. The yield of the B-type and the E-type gelatins were 32.6% and 28.1 %, respectively. The B-type gelatin was superior to the E-type un all physical properties. Molecular weight of the B-type was larger than that of the E-type due to its pretreatment method. Among the composition of amino acids, the amino acids such as glycine, alanine, glutamic acid and imino acids(proline and hydroxyproline) were responsible for 68$\sim$70% of the total amino acids. Functionalities of the fish bone gelatin were almost similar to commercial gelatin.

  • Since the first detection of gravitational-wave (GW), GW150914, September 14th 2015, the multi-messenger astronomy added a new way of observing the Universe together with electromagnetic (EM) waves and neutrinos. After two years, GW together with its EM counterpart from binary neutron stars, GW170817 and GRB170817A, has been observed. The detection of GWs opened a new window of astronomy/astrophysics and will be an important messenger to understand the Universe. In this article, we briefly review the gravitational-wave and the astrophysical sources and introduce the basic principle of the laser interferometer as a gravitational-wave detector and its noise sources to understand how the gravitational-waves are detected in the laser interferometer. Finally, we summarize the search algorithms currently used in the gravitational-wave observatories and the detector characterization algorithms used to suppress noises and to monitor data quality in order to improve the reach of the astrophysical searches.
